Got a Good Deal on Tires (you can too)
I knew I was going to need new tires this year. I bought my car last summer with my rears are worn out and the crappy Dunlop Direza's up front. I wanted to replace them all.
I have been looking passively online for a couple of weeks now. I wanted a tire with decent tread life, great performance, and a cheap price. This had me looking at General UHP, Sumitomo HTRZ III and a few Kuhmo's.
But then I came across this deal today on the tire rack (tirerack.com) and said screw it to long life tires, I want performance!.
Bridestone Potenza RE-01R:
Regularly Priced: $232.00 USD
Clearance Price: $78.00 USD
I am getting them all shipped, taxed, dutied, etc delivered to my door for $529.18 USD. This works out to roughly $675 CAD, or $168.75 ($149 before taxes).
Are these the best tires on the road? No. However, show me another $78 USD tire that is better, or even a $149 CAD tire that is better.
There are still some left.

I paid CAD$800, including taxes, mounting and balancing last summer for some Falken FK-452 in 245/40/18 (225 would be cheaper).
Factor the install at about $10/corner+tax: it cost me an extra $20 per tire for wider Falkens. Well worth it!

I am assuming you are getting the stock 225/45/18.

I'm confused, are you saying you got the better deal, I got the better deal, or we both got good deals?
Also, I thought about upping the wheel size. Although I like the look of the 245's better, I would rather keep the that little bit of extra unsprung weight off of my car.

Yeah, I got the stock size.

But personal preference I guess.

Called Tirerack and the guy was saying that the Bridgestone RE01R was a better handler in dry but not as good in wet and will wear quite a bit faster. He said for daily use, you do give up quite a bit of traction in wet weather vs the sumitono, so that's why I am leaning heavily toward the Sumitono.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet as I want to read through all of the reviews before I buy.
