Just wanted to say good bye. I just sold my RX-8 that I bought in 2005. It's been a great 7 years but my growing family needs something else. I joined the club in Apr 2003... making me a senior on this board! Just wanted to say that I had a lot of fun at our meets and this board is a great resource! So thanks everyone!!!

I was looking for a used sedan so I got a 2006 BMW 750Li. A little larger than I was looking for but in great condition. The depreciation of these things are insane, but the reliability is not good either, so I will just drive it for a few years and let it go. Rinse and repeat.

A friend of mine did that.. picked up a used 5 series. Has done so many repairs on it, it wasn't worth the hassle.
He's going to get rid of it this season. Hopefully before the last coil pack gives out.
Sad to see you go.. but alas, with a growing family, you would eventually need a bigger car.
It sucks how people RAG on the Mazda RX-8's reliability. I swear BMW cars might have great power when new, but BMW's are worst than RX-8's in reliability.

Another co-worker used to have a early 90's 325i I think it was. He had it for a few years than his auto went into limp mode. Replacement trans was $10'000, so he got rid of it and got a Mazda3. Not he's back to a 2000 3-series as of last spring.
My old boss had a used 740li or 750li, I can't remember, but he didn't have it for too too long, it spend many weeks getting fixed, than after about a year of ownership the auto trans started to have intermitent problems, they quoted him $20'000 to replace the trans.

It's called badge illusion. BMW is considered "luxury". Don't care if the thing spends weeks in the garage. Never reliable when you need it. But people still get them because of the badge.
If you're not getting it new, don't bother. The headaches of fixing it is astronomical.
When you don't know any better, you follow the crowd. Its only after you learn the hard way that you finally understand.
It's funny that the comments I'm reading are very generalized comments, very much like the generalized comments I read from other boards regarding the reputation of the RX-8. This is no different than people who dislike rotaries.
Sad to see another longtermer go, best of luck, a '06 750Li is certainly a nice ride.
I've kept my '05, still love it, having driven nearly everything else out there it's still the most fun on 4 wheels that can fit 4. I did since buy an '09 Ram 1500 for the growing family, the 390hp is nice, plus I need it for towing our travel trailer/toy hauler. Still, I'm real glad I didn't sell the 8!
Also got a 2011 1 series 'vert last year for the wife, and it's been in the shop more than my other two cars combined (2 new tops, one recall, rattles, etc). So great cars, but BMW can certainly work on their reliability.
I traded mine in October for a BMW. I miss my rx-8...
