Financing Option in Toronto?

Hey guys,

I am in the process of trying to finance an RX-8. I have been looking around at financing options at different banks. I came across one from CIBC, and the interest rate was EXTREMELY attractive (3%), but then after speaking to the financial advisor they said it was pre-approved at 7%. So knowing that I am back to square one. Do you guys know of any other options out there that can help me get an interest rate that is 3-4%? Or maybe another alternative altogether?

Thanks guys!

Christopher

Try Scotia Bank, I just got a 4 year 2.9% from them through the dealership. Agincourt Mazda.

Gravey, do you live at home though? I live at home, and so I don't really have any assets as collateral for them to hold onto. That will most likely affect my interest rate a lot, right?

I live at my home, we just bought it in June so not even a year into our mortgage yet.

See if you can get a parent to cosign? The interest rate is usually based off risk of investment.

Thanks Gravey! That is a great advise! I will talk to my parents about it and see if they are willing to co-sign it with me. Hopefully the interest rate will be much lower afterwards!

Hey everyone! So a quick update on what is going on here. I was originally looking for a Series 2 to finance, but the vehicle is too expense for me to purchase. I have recently found a Series 1 that is within my budget, and I AM able to get one. I have been stalking this forum for many years now. I am definitely not an amateur when it comes to rotary knowledge. I have been reading up rotary info since even before I joined this forum, but have definitely gained the majority of my knowledge on this forum.

Anyways, to make this post as short and concise as possible, I need a wisdom of those on this forum please!

I am currently getting married (YAY!! :D), and so I have been looking for a vehicle that I can use as my DD, fun, but practical enough for me to carry myself, my wife-to-be, and maybe other passengers in the back whenever I do need to.

I have been looking into Impreza's, but it has been really difficult to find one that is 1) manual, 2) good condition, 3) low mileage, 4) in my budget. I did find a few Series 1 RX-8's that is 1) manual, 2) good condition, 3) pretty low mileage, 4) within my budget. And of course, most important of them all, ROTARY ENGINE!!

Anyways...of course my EARS want to seek out for the answer that says, "go ahead and buy the RX-8 Christopher! It is the smarter thing to do!" but I don't want to be biased, and I want to do what is wise for myself, and my fiancée. Please let me know what you guys think! I really respect everyone on this forum, and find all of you so wise! That is why I am coming here to seek for advise and guidance!

Thanks again everyone!

- Christopher

In my honest opinion, you cannot beat the fun factor of the rx8 over the imprezza. I've been in evo's and sti's at the track and they feel like boats compared to RX8's. They may pull on us, but they can't hold a candle to us in the corners.

But, for practicality point of view, imprezza is probably a "safer" option. 4wd drive for the winter, sedan for more space and better gas mileage...

Having owned my 8 going on 4 years now, I wouldn't trade it for a used subie...

Thank you for your honest opinion! I have driven an R3 before, and really wanted yet one! I absolutely love how the RX-8 feels and drives! I have never driven a Series 1 though!

I will be seeing a 2004 Rx-8 GT tomorrow. Based on my research on here, aside from the usual coils and engine issues that I should look out for, the latest recalls on the '04s should have resolved flooding issues. Are there any other stuff you guys recommend me to keep an eye on? I know the proper procedures and maintenances so I am not worried about how I will treat the car. So far the seller seems to know a lot about rotaries! And largely to do with the influence from his dad and family being rotary drivers for years.

I am excited and is really hoping that this might be the car I can get! But I would love to hear from more of you guys on your thoughts and opinion on owning an RX-8, and from your own experiences!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give a little update on what is going on on my side! So I went to go see the gentleman and his RX-8 last Friday (he apparently is on this forum! Will have to find out what his username is!) and he probably THE most honest and considerate and kind seller I have ever met! I am also VERY excited to say that I have decided to purchase the vehicle, and will be picking it up this Friday!! This week is a crunch week where I have to get my insurance paperwork done, and make sure I have everything that is needed to bring with me to have the vehicle transferred to me. I absolutely cannot wait! I have wanted to get my hands on one ever since it first came out in 2003! I cannot believe I am finally getting one now!

I will update and post some more pictures as soon as I get the vehicle...and when I find the time...since I will be too busy driving the car! And now I will also have to find the time to shovel the driveway, to make room for the car!

I can probably also start attending some of the meets you guys hold every now and then! It is very exciting!

Till next time ladies & gentlemen!

- Christopher

P.S. it is going to be Grey, with 100,000km on it, and manual!

2004 RX-8 GT. Titanium Grey!

There was a check engine light that came on right after he gassed the vehicle. It finally went off today, but it got me a little bit nervous though! But I am sure that it was only as a result of the gas cap not closing tightly enough!

Hi everyone!!

Not sure if anyone is actually reading/following this thread, but I wanted to keep this community posted anyways!

I have finally picked up my RX-8 yesterday! It has been a BLAST driving it!! Sooo much fun!! I just absolutely love going on highways, when I can have the excuse to rev it up to 9,000rpm!!

On the other hand, I am reminded that it is a 10 year old car (2004), because there are some loose pieces in the cabin, and I guess it bothers me a little bit, but I will just deal with it for now! I am just thankful that I was able to get the car of my dream! Maybe somewhere down the road I will be able to get a new model RX-8!!

I will upload pictures when I get the opportunity to! ASAP...I'll try! hahaha!

Well good for you with your purchase and yes post some pics.

For someone thats been on this forum for almost 7 years you make no
mention of a compression test prior to purchase, I hope this is something you
haven't over looked in the excitment of buying your 8

Not at all, I just forgot to mention it! That was one of the first things I asked the seller. The vehicle passed with flying colours. I will upload the compression test as soon as I get the chance to! The seller was a super nice and honest person, and it was great dealing with him!

Anyways, I will load up the pictures of the car when I get the chance, along with the compression test result!

Haha! That is ok! Making friends...making friends! :P I don't know how long I am planning on keeping this car ( as long as this car would allow me ). I am seeing some rust bubbling up, very minor, but I know that it will eventually need to be fixed. Though I do not have couple thousand dollars for the repair. I have always wanted an RX-8 R3, so maybe somewhere down the road I will just sell the car and get an R3 if I have the opportunity :P

Hey guys! I still have not taken a picture of the car...trust me, I DO have the car! Haha! Please don't start thinking that I am just saying these things just because! lol!

Anyways, I have the compression test in PDF format here, so I will just write out the test here. I would have uploaded the picture for you all to see.

Rotor 1: (1) 7.8 kgf/cm2 ; (2) 8 kgf/cm2 ; (3) 8 kgf/cm2 @ 260rpm
Rotor 2: (1) 7.7 kgf/cm2 ; (2) 7.8 kgf/cm2 ; (3) 7.9 kgf/cm2 @ 260rpm

So there you have it! Seems to be in a very very healthy state!

Pictures will come...eventually...lol! Most likely when the weather is warmer. I want to give it a wash and clean before I take a picture of it!

It was very interesting driving in the snow today...:P
