Fender Rolling?

Fender Rolling?
Has anyone rolled their rear fenders yet?
iwas thinking of using a heat gun and a baseball bat or pipe to do it... but iwas wondering if someone has a fender roller or knows a better way to do it other than spending 200+$ for a body shop to do it who will only charge me more because they will try to screw up and crack the paint on purpose...
i got most of my infromation on fender rolling on Revscene.net

Oil Injection
there is some member with a silver mazdaspeed kitted RX8, he rolled his rear fenders. Look in the CALLING ALL SILVERS thread, near the end....and you can PM him

I didn't know what the thread was talking about, but now I do. Anyone have a pic for us to see how it looks after it's been done. I'm curious to see.

i used the ghetto bat method...... but even with a bit of heating it cracked the paint a bit........ honestly it doesn't bother me but if i was to keep the car for a long time i would have done it profesionally (ie to prevent rust!)

where can i get it done professionally locally?
i was wondering how you did it with the bat? if you could expain it to me that would be great and really helpful..
i am going to Garage 5 to get my coilovers installed hopefully they can refer someone (their fender roller broke)..

I don't mean to be an *******, but this seems absolutely ridiculous. You guys have $40,000, relatively new automobiles, and you're looking for ways to cut corners on bodywork to save a few bucks? If you're worried about the bodyshop sabotaging the work, then you're dealing with the wrong people in the first place.
If you have it done professionally at a place with proper equipment they will have a device that rolls the lip with a non marring wheel on that moves off a fixed axis. Unless you've been a bodyman for years I don't think anyone is going to be pulling off a proper job with an Easton, a rolling pin or whatever else is handy lying around.
Why are you looking to roll your fenders anyway?

FINALLY FOUND A PLACE!!!.. there are quite a few but most are too busy to do a little thing like fender rolling so i was left with
KEEP LABS on mitchell island off knight street bridge... they have skylines and FDs with rolled fenders on crazzy offset rims.. so there is experience.
i need to roll my fenders beacsue im running a 19x9.5 with a 30 offset. simple.. i like the look and that is why i purchased a 30 offset wheel.. it gives the car more muscular look..personal opinion.. id like to show it to peeps in the 604, if we ever get another meet going..

got my fenders rolled today ..took a lot of prep time to getto the actual rolling but the patience paid off with no cracking or any blemishes..
1)removed wheel
2)removed damper and spring
3) dropped swaybar
4) removed all plastic in the fender
5) a jackstand was used to rest the control arms
6) attached fender roller
7) heated the paint evenly for 2 mins on high with a heat gun.
8) started rolling the fender lip
9) heated paint again.. it was -1C
10) continued rolling tillthe lip was pushed up and test fitted the rim for clearance
11) cut edges of fender plastic closest to the wheel to avoid further rubbing.
12) reattached everything and dropped the car to the ground looks amazing.
lip was rolled only 5mm without cracking to clear my 30 offset.
a 20 offset is probably the maximum that would fit under the 8s fender before bodywork is needed.
will post pics of the look when i can.

just waiting to get a hold of a camera and good weather.. (snowing)
^^^ it does look good.. the car feels wierd casue its so low.. i have virtually no body roll.. the tires look crazzy from the back and the slight camber really sets it off.. not everyones style but sure suits me and the (ladies).. i think the 30 offset is perfect for this car anything higher would have looked wierd and stock... quote from my 60 yr old uncle" really adds some muscle to the curvaceous lines" ..(aggressive look)..
PS.** just a reminder im not a racer.. bought this car for its price looks and decent performance... if i wanted a race car i would have gotten an FD or something along those lines..no flaming me for destroying the 8s saviour its HANDLING..i honestly think it handles better now..**
