Changing provinces with the 8?

Changing provinces with the 8?
I'm sure this question has be addressed before however nothing comes up when I use the search function. I'll be moving to Ontario from Quebec with my rx8 which already plated. Will I need to get the vehicle inspected and e-tested before I'd be able to get my Ontario plates?

Every province has different car insurance regulations. Most likely if you are moving to Ontario, you will be required to pass a full inspection with air care before you can reg. the car in Ontario. However you usually have a couple month to do this. Call your insurance company and they will give you ALL the info you need.

I'm not suggesting you do, but you CAN keep your Quebec plates if you still have a Quebec address (parents, relatives, friends). You could then keep the car only registered in Quebec. But again, not saying you should. Of course, we need ugly front licence plates here in Ontario.

You "could" do that. However if you are involved in an accident (your fault or not) AND THE insurance company finds out, they can have you charged with fraud, and Void your insurance. Thus causing YOU (to op) to be personally liable for all the damages caused and sustained.

You WILL have to have the car safetied and e-tested to get it plated in ON. It has to legitimately pass an e-test in order to be newly registered in Ontario. No way around this. Keeping the car plated in QC could end up being a world of trouble, I highly discourage it.

RIP Mx-3. Hello Rx-8!
I just did it in spring for the Rx8 and my Xterra, The X was first.
You will need to get it inspected, and it's only at authorized SAAQ locations. Not like here in Ontario where almost any shop can do it. They were **** with the truck, the car passed with flying colors.
Than before you can get it plated you need to get your license changed over to Quebec, which needs to be done by appointment and can be a several week wait, so book ASAP. The license is the stupid and frustrating part, especially since they dont like to tell you everthing they need, than complain when you don't have it, than have to come back. With that, and they're retarded, they want 6 months consecutive proof that you lived at your old address (health card worked for me, but bills/statements and such are what they're looking for) but they also want 1 months proof of you living at your new address. Oh and you need a certified drivers abstract (i can't remember right now what it's called), which you have to get online, pay for and get mailed to you, because on the new Ontario license, it doesn't say when you started driving, do they only take into consideration your driving experience from the issue date of your license, which for me would of been 14 months, and because there's insurance included in your license fee, it'll largely affect on how much it'll cost.
Once you get your Quebec license, you can get your car plated
Once you get your car plated, than you can get it insured
Sadly I'm saving nothing in insurance moving from Ontario to Quebec, and that's not taking into calculation the prices of the plates, which are done yearly, which also include part of your insurance. The price of insurance they quoted me in January doubled when I went to place and insure the Rx-8 when I had finally brought her back up in May. Truck is $40/month, the Rx8 is $80/month, and my plates are $40/month rather than paying over $500 in one shot every year for both plates. I'm 31 with a clean record...I thought the 8 was suppose to be cheap because it's a '4-door"?

I'm 21 and paying 1650 in Quebec for full coverage on my rx8 with a clean driving record. My biggest concern is getting a shop to give me a pass on the inspection. As i'll be living a bit far from the city I'm hoping insurance won't be much more than that :/

Hey Clues, I happen to be doing the same thing in 2 weeks.
I got quoted 204$ a month 1 WAY/ 289$ 2 way insurance for my 8, it sucks but its mainly due to 2 reasons, driving experience and age ( if your 25 and older your insurance is considerably lower, I heard this from somewhere I could be wrong )
What I will be doing until is leaving everything in Quebec and calling my insurance provider and have a extended out-of-province coverage.
I hope everything works out for you
