I remember reading some posts somewhere about the cat warranty in Canada, well I took my 8 over to the local dealer today because first the clutch pedal was making squeaking noises, and secondly it tripped a P0420 code (cat performance below threshold)
Its a 2004 RX8.
The service advisor told me it would cost me nothing to have the clutch done, just gotta wait for the parts to come in and about $100 to diagnose whether its my cat or an 02 sensor. Comes back to me later and informs me that the cat is failing and will be covered under the extended warranty Mazda has released on the cat converter for Canada.
So there you go, apparently the cats are being covered in Canada now.

I had thought Canada had the same/similar Federal Emission standards as the USA. At least in regards to the cat. 8yr/80,000 miles or 128,000 +/- Kilometers.

awesome news. wasn't sure about the cat. I know that our core engine warranty is 8yr/160000km. And I got a letter in the mail saying clutch is the same.
What did your cat failures feel like? Ive heard a couple different things.
I'm 75% sure mine is gone, makes the sound of a subaru after 2+ hours of driving,
fine otherwise. Can hear something rattling around in there as well

Somehow this morning it flooded when I tried to start it
1/2 hour later it started, with a big puff of black smoke
but now the engine light is on again !, but it is running fine.
This happened last time it flooded and I needed a new CAT
