Canadian FI Owners Club

First off, I know there was already a thread like this but it was from back in like 2008 and I figure there has to be more FI guys nowadays; hoping maybe there will even be someone from my neck of the woods kicking around! Secondly, being completely honest, I'm sitting at work and am bored as hell!

So here it goes, lets see who's all out there for Canadian FI owners. I wanna see info on where you're from, year and model of car, turbo kit you have, any other significant mods you have, and of course a picture says a thousand words!

Guess I'll start:

RotaryMachineRX / Jesse

1. Saskatoon, SK
2. 2004 6MT GT
3. GReddy turbo kit w/ Fixes
4. GReddy Profec B-SpecII, BHR Ignition & Midpipe, GReddy SE catback, COBB AP, RX8Performance Intake, DW200 Fuel Pump, RP Short Shifter

06Rx8nate

1. Waterdown, ON
2. 2006 6MT GT
3. GReddy turbo kit, modded gtx3076 wheel and water cooled, BNR wastegate actuator, w/ Fixes
4. GReddy Profec boost controller, AEM coils, BHR Midpipe, racing beat catback, tuned by thewird, AEM cold air intake modded, DW200 Fuel Pump, blue injectors, 270rwhp 250tq. 15 psi

I'm not sure what it will be used for. It's some of our smaller wire. I work for Southwire if that helps...

LOL no. Maybe 1-2 /month for turbo RX-8's. Now RX-7's like 10 /month hah. This excludes tuning trips which varies.

Build in progress....lots of custom welded parts being made for my setup to be a clean install....like a oil return fitting that actually fits in that tight turbo ...
I will update as I get the car on the road. Just didn't want to leave you hanging RMRx

Yeah really.... I have my buddies welding up some interesting parts. Had to make an oil return flange out of stainless to weld on the fitting to give good clearances for the housing and greddy manifold.... go figure. I see a lot of set up going with high temp silicone lines instead with aluminum piping. Looks ghetto but I understand it works okay. I want to see if I can do it all with braided SS lines for oil at least. I have the coolant lines for the turbo all set up.
I need to figure where I'm sourcing the oil in line from and coolant lines from.

After that, should be easy sailing.....or boosting...whatever

^ Yes guys, lets crap on other peoples builds without having any details. It's a mismatched hybrid turbo with a GTX wheel that doesn't work well at low boost and since the 15 psi is only at 4k and then falls to I don't remember what boost level as it was a while ago. It doesn't make much top-end power, only bottom-end torque when it has boost.

edit: Nate was by today to delete an EVAP engine code and we took the car for a test spin to check boost. It actually taps 16 psi and then drops to like 6-7 psi by redline

I'd say it really depends on what your going for what what you have in your setup. A greddy kit and/or upgraded greddy kit, going to an Adaptronic wouldn't really give you much advantages over a flash tune. Up to a GT35R, flash tuning is ok as long as its side mount turbo since that allows you proper MAF plumbing. Tuning wise I don't care either way. There are reasons to use an Adaptronic due to more features like map switching and flexfuel tuning but up here not many people are interested in that stuff. I probably wouldn't recommend an Adaptronic unless your going bigger turbo, top-mount turbo, or REW swap. A flash tune has the advantage that the car will always drive like stuck but becomes very sensitive to mechanical failures in a boosted environment since your car essentially doesn't run if an intercooler pipe blows off which isn't a problem for a standalone running off MAP. The Adaptronic is definitely the only good option in the standalone world for RX-8's though. I'm an Adaptronic dealer fyi if anyone is interested.

I fed oil to turbo using a oil filter plate adapter, I specifically used a GReddy one but there are a few options out there, extremely easy for oil supply, I recommend it.

Coolant supply can just come from the hoses that run through your throttle body. Just disconnect and cap the TB nipples and extend the coolant hoses to the turbo.

i went adaptronic for a few reasons.......

1- low fuel pressure sensor governor using ssi box with 3 remaining inputs for sensors of my choice.
2- adaptronic to my knowledge is one of a few that configures the multiple throttle plates (compared to greddy emanage) meaning with a proper tune I can hold 10 psi without dropping off.
3- flex fuel capability (ethanol)
4 -future upgrade turbo and/or engine and not have to purchase a new ecu

happy with my purchase...... expensive but potentially worth it in the long run.

In the end it all comes down to preference of the tuner... But we didn't come HERE to talk about this
