2004-2008 Mazda RX-8 recalled for fire risk: nearly 70,000 U.S. vehicles affected

40th anniversary Edition
Had my RX-8 into Mazda of Richmond Hill on January 12th and they replaced the fuel pump O-rings along with adding some insulation padding so the parts are available in Ontario. They also replaced the driver's side airbag inflator only (not the entire air bag assy.). My particular 2005 model did not have a recall on the passenger's side.

As per my previous post, I had the car brought in a few weeks ago and the Dealership fixed the airbag recall and the pump o-ring issue regardless if I needed it or not.
I filled up today at gas station full tank and within seconds I heard a small pop or thud. I didn't know what it was but I thought it was the oil I keep in my trunk.
Turns out my car was leaking gas excessively from the bottom. It eventually stopped leaking 3/4 tank and is now back at Dixie Mazda to be inspected. Unfortunately, they are not making as a big of deal as I am and wont work on the car until tomorrow morning.
I felt safer prior to the recall service.

I Just took my car in for the two recalls and i dunno about you guys but i live in West Covina CA and my local dealer (Puente Hills Mazda) said that they sent the recall notice to people but the O rings wont arrive until may. I told them prior to receiving the letter i was smelling gasoline inside the cabin of the car. Since i've had my car awhile I could tell it wasn't the fact that i had a straight pipe. Then i did my oil change the other week and saw gasoline streams running down the driver side gas tank and it began to dawn on me I was burning a lot of gas lately scared it was bad compression. I was even having hard starts. The service guy Nathan talked to his manager filled out a form got it approved and they special ordered the parts for me despite not being able to get them until May. I knew it burned more gas but every two days i had to fill up? that was kind of ridiculous. Anyway just wanted to shout out puente hills Mazda i've always hated the dealer but now i come to realize I just hate the parts dept. Ha Ha for their overpriced OEM parts that i need so bad. Hector, Nathan are cool guys very helpful and informative. thanks to Nathan i have a free rental till everything's resolved and btw the oil pump was the actual reason for the fuel leak and not the o rings but they are replacing the whole pump anyway for free. So Puente Hills MAZDA great service DEPT.

My RX-8 purrs.....
I took my car in to Stoney Creek Mazda for an oil change and to have the air bag inflator housing recall done as well as the fuel pump rings. They only inspected the fuel pump for leaks and said there were none. I suppose now I need to wait for the second recall letter to actually have the rings replaced. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had washed my car for me. I was going to wash it later that day so instead I took it for a nice long drive... 18 deg C in February so why not!

Dirtyswiff, the dealership replaced the whole fuel pump system for you for free? I wish they did that for mine as well. My car is drinking alot of gasoline recently as well, and once a while I smell gasoline inside the car. When the dealership did that fuel pump O ring recall, they said there were no leaks on the fuel pump.
