ON 1st week in my RX8

I picked up my VR 06 RX8 GT last wednesday the car only has 16000kms on it, but the motor has been replaced because the previous owner had done a turbo and the dealer did not think it was done well. I am wondering if there is anything i should do to break in the new motor it only has 3000kms on it currently. The car is used as my daily driver and i plan on driving it in the winter. I have done a lot of research on the RX8s but now that i have one i really want to make sure things are done right from the begining.

I would recommend premixing and check out BHR/RaceRoots/Mazmart for parts 'n stuff. A superhuge + would be to get your car properly oiled/rust proofed (oil gard, krown) and a good set of winter tires are the only way to enjoy your DD. Start modding and you won't stop. enjoy your new VR beauty.

What would i do to premix, i dont even know exactly what oil to use yet. Ive been checking most of the sites for parts. The car came with HKS cat back so im kinda looking for something to help it handle the extra airflow

Yeah rustproofing and oil spray is a must...

My car is getting rusty and my alignment shop had a devil of a time getting the bolts undone.

Ye I have the same question. What exactly is rust proofing? Is it just for the underbody of the car? Is rust proofing and waxing (zaino) the same thing ? I searched on this forum but nothing came up

*I'm no expert* but my understanding is that an oil spray is a yearly or so spray of oil to the undercarriage. Rustproofing is a different animal altogether and is concerned with the body panels and unibody. A rust inhibitor is applied on the outside and in some voids. There are also boxes that you mount on the chassis that inhibit rust by sending an electrical charge through the panels.

Not really... but the reason why you buy them is for the warranty they provide... can't get em on a used car though..

I absolutely recommend Oil Gard for rust proofing. My scratched up ranger has had bare metal showing for 4+ years now, it's so saturated it just never rusts. I have used their service for years and I now service a location in Chatham and get my 8 done dripless in panels and go for the drip stuff underneath, it's cheaper and more effective.
I drove my GS last winter and I am a much better driver because of it. I recommend it to everyone. If you do it with out winter tires your a moron though.
Any good 2cy (not marine) will work. I use Amsol Saber Pro. Put 4oz in when you fill up and your golden!

Is rust proofing absolutely necessary to prevent rust over the winter ? Would like 4 coats of zaino before the winter be as good ?

it's not that expensive and it's worth it. I live in Windsor and they salt the **** out of everything.
+you won't find much on it because it's illegal in most states because it drips oil for the first couple days. Many people drive over from Michigan to get it done here.

I go to krown lakeshore once a year what they do is drill holes in the body of your car and spray your car will smell like candle wax for about a week after. The rx8 loves the cold lol I love driving it in the winter drift around corners.

I think that FluidFilm is the best for rustproofing a variety of areas :

Dont premix your RX8, Mazda is already doing that for you with your factory oil injection system. Find a rotary engine builder and look at a set of apex seals that someone has decided to out think the factory by adding more oil (premixing) to the combustion chamber. Seals are coked with oil, they start to stick etc.

ummmmmm, yeah. I'd read the premix thread and make your own decision on that one. Sohn adapter is a solid mod that I have plans to do.

how would your warranty get void for premixing? by time your engine gets shipped to get the "inspection" location the gas is drained out. Just don't tell them you do.....and it doesn't gum up the rotors, the 4cy oil that mazda burns through gets gummed up. I wish I had taken pictures of my FD before and after rebuilds from oem to premix with sohn. I religiously premix my 8 as did the original owner of my car and it runs fantastic. It reads strong numbers across the board and I wouldn't think that it's a coincedence.
