Wheel's Magazine

Absolutely awesome write-up about the 8 in July 03 issue of Australian Wheels magazine (before you ask, no I don't have a scanner). Final line of report is "ultimately, it's all about character, and Mazda's RX-8 has it gushing from both tailpipes. .....(it ) doesn't achieve its personality by being flawed or excessively weird. It's simply brilliant-no less, possibly even more"

They loved it.

just read it.

very interesting. I've noticed a huge bias in wheels towards the current mazdas. Evidence of that could be seen in the lack of real reference to the 8's lack of torque - which really has everyone else talking. I can't say I mind or blame them - the new generation of Mazdas are something special.

A great rap for the car, chock full of all the superlatives the journo could fit into the 3 pages.

Yeah,

Just read the article. Simply put, there was not a single major fault that the journo found with the RX-8 he was given to drive through Victoria's Yarra Ranges. From the engine to the cabin, the handling to the body styling, he raved about the car like no other review I've read to date.

Ooh, only four more weeks to wait !!

So, Titanium RX-8, will I be seeing you at the drive event at Eastern Creek on 28th July ?

Yes P.D.U. I will be there for sure. The only possible hurdle is that my wife is due to give birth on the 24th July so barring a baby that decides to come 4 days late I shall be there. BTW which colour did you order?

Just read it - did you notice they drove a pre-production car? I'm guessing they'll have to drive the real thing in a later issue. I suppose they'll put it in a comparason.

Just a quick question for any of you guys going to Eastern Creek.

Where did you get your invites from - Mazda or dealer?

I placed order/deposit in January and haven't heard anything since from Mazda....I've given up on asking the dealer anything.

Rossy I got the invite from Mazda Australia, but this would have involved the dealer registering my pre-order with Mazda. Have you received THE BOOK? If not I suggest you contact Mazda. Below are some suggested numbers. To book the state drive event call Lyn Mikkelsen on (02) 9554 1000, or try Fiona Dickson (Mazda Customer Relations) on (03) 8540 1959. I have been in contact with both of these ladies and they have both been extremely helpful. Good luck.

I thought so too ... look at the web site - all black is now an option for the blk,red and titty grey. Unless I'm reading it incorrectly.

I have ordered black/red leather. I was under the impression that this was the only possibility with Titanium. Did you see black leather interior as an option on the Australian website?

Titanium RX-8,

To answer your question about colour choice I chose Velocity Red w/ red & black leather. No moonroof, no sat-nav. Many congrats on the baby. My wife was kind enough to have our baby well in advance of me taking delivery of the RX-8. He's 8 weeks old now.

Your other question was about the drive day session. I'm attending the afternoon session. I'll work in the morning and make my way out to Eastern Creek for the lunch so if you stay for a bite to eat you can tell me how your drive was on the track.

Richwu,

As I mentioned above to Titanium RX-8 I'm attending the afternoon session at Eastern Creek so I hope to meet you then.

As for delivery, I spoke to my dealer on Friday and they said they are still expecting my car to delivered to me about a week before the end of July. Like you I put my deposit down in mid-Jan so I'm surprised they are giving you a mid August date. Which dealer are you using ?

The key, as far as I know, is simply the Rotary emblemed key that is available as a dealer option for $88. It will be programmed to start our cars.

Bob Hall does write for Wheels freelance, and has his own section in the back of the magazine (slamming the 300ZX this month ) but he couldnt be trusted to write the review!

can't wait ... they said it will be mid august for the car to deliver.

Anyone here from Victoria going to the RX-8 day at Calder on the 11 July? I got the invite but unfortunately I am working all day. I am sending my wife there instead of myself.

I ordered a Winning Blue RX-8 with the black leather option.
