See, again you get the best deal. It just ain't fair. For the record: What do you drink over there? You gotta have something to wash down that vegemite.

As long as its definetely 1177kw and 211nm i can wear that but if we are downgraded to 167kw i aint going to be a happy little vegemite, i am tryng to organise a few owners who are prepared to get their cars dynod once a few km have been put on their rides.
I'm parial to Cascade Premium, bu then - I'll happily drink Guiness if it's on tap and properly cared for.
This power thing is enough to drive you to drink!!!
Call me simple (go on) but a free flowing exhaust, less restrictive air filter and a calibration tweak would give most engines a 10~15% lift without seriously compromising driveability. I haven't found one article about an RX8 with "more grunt".
Apologies about continuing OT conversation... but I was asked a question... honestly

Me... I drink almost anything but Fosters or Victoria Bitter (VB). Corona, Hahn, James Boags and Stella Artois have all spent short amounts of time in my fridge recently.
When I'm in the US I drink Corona or Heinekin.
No flames from XXXX, VB, Fosters, Swan, Tooheys or [insert your favourite aussie beer here] drinkers, thanks. :p
Getting back to the topic, confirm we have the exact same ECU settings (and hence power output) as the European model?? That's what Mazda has been telling us from the start. If so, then does that mean we also now only have 167kW? I must say that this is the first time I have heard that figure quoted for the Euro model.
Apart from undisclosed HP drops like the US one that is.
UK/Euro was supposed to have 177KW/240ps , which 'aparently' met our current emmisions - Euro stage 3.
AFIK Australia currently has Euro stage 3 emmisions too (or very similar).
Mazda decided to make the RX-8 comply with the soon to be introduced Euro stage 4 emmisions, which is obvoisly stricker, and doesnt come into force until 2004/5 in europe - Who knows if Australia will go with it, or when.
So to meet Euro4 power was droped to 231ps, with website updates forgeting to update the KW.
I dont see any reason, if Mazda are still meeting Euro3, that the Australian cars arnt 177KW - unless a similar, unpublished drop happens like the US.
What worries me is that us in Europe - who have the lowest power car officialy, get a further hidden HP drop.
I've seen the RX-8 dyno for as little as 163HP in US, thats 75bhp down on the NEW lower power figure of 238bhp.
If we get the same power drop were down to 153bhp at the wheels. looking kinda poor, especialy for the fuel economy. I hope 231ps is correct.
To me it seems that MAZDA was deliberetaly optimistic in its output figures the marketing department choose to align this car to cars in the 184kw market knowing that they could ask a premium price for the car and knowing that if the truth ever came out most rx8 buyers would still be happy with their rx8 and not return them , they did the same with the mx5 and got away with it so why not do it again .
HAD i have known that the rx8 is only 177kw or possibly 170kw i would have not parted with $66000.
BY OVERSTATING THE FIGURES THEY HAVE ADDED AN EXTRA $5000 PER VEHICLE TO THEIR PROFIT MARGIN AND MANAGED TO SELL EXTRA CARS .
