RX8 Servicing in Wellington ?

Hi everyone, just got an RX8 and was wondering if anyone can recommend a place in Wellington to get servicing and other stuff (paintwork - if I get a body kit, auto electical - day/fog lights, etc) done.

I've read some of the threads for newbs which are very helpful, keen on any recommendations for service agents in Wellington that are good with RX8's - some auto electricians and alarm installers I've spoken to this week seem to shy away from RX8's saying they're difficult to work on ...

Anyways, hiya everyone, and thanks for any advice anyone can give. Cheers.

Alli

Hey, congrats on the purchase. Most if not all of us service our own, mainly as the dealerships don't get a huge number of 8's through they are more often than not playing around with it (btw i speak from experience).

There's a DIY thread in this forum for servicing if you search it. I usually use google and tag on rx8club to the search, rather than the search on this forum. Far easier.

Hope that helps.

Ugh yeah I kinda found that out first hand this week ... took my RX8 to an auto electrician to get some spot/day lights installed and they were like, yeah sure we can sort that out for you no problem. Then after leaving the car there for the day, they go "oh it was more complicated than we thought to work out how the wiring was done and took longer than we thought" ... then on the second day they're like "hmmm, the bumber was harder than we thought to get off and put back on again so that took longer".

After getting shitty about the costs above the quote, I paid it and went home at least happy to have the spot lights in ... only to now find that the bumper isn't fitted properly grrrrrr

Wish there were some other RX8 owners in Wellington that could say who they use for stuff like servicing, panel beating, electrician/stereo stuff, etc. I'm not great doing my own car stuff but might have a chat with some of my mates who do their own stuff on Subi's and Evo's ...

I guess this is just part of having a car like this. Hard getting info on getting body kits and spoilers too

I had an alarm system fitted a few years back by a local Wellington alarm outfit and they had a tough time tracking down the wiring diagrams. They got there in the end though with lots of help from me and the Internet - but they've since shut down their shop and gone mobile so I won't recommend them.

As for servicing I've simply gone with Capital City Ford / Mazda. They're not cheap but without any other outright recommendations I'm reluctant to go anywhere else. They've fitted a new starter/battery at an OK cost without incident and they top off the oil for "free" whenever you need if you service the car with them.

One time I had a spark lead come loose and they charged me $100 for finding and fixing it - but I should have pressed them on it as they'd recently serviced it (aka reckon it was their fault).

Also they sell the stock tyres cheaper than any Tony's/Beaurepairs... (not getting into arguments on their merits!)

All in all I've got no real grounds for complaint.

Sadly Paraparam is a wee bit far to go for servicing when you're in the central city/western suburbs.

Hi. Any new recommendations for RX-8 servicing in Wellington? Preferably in the city or near suburbs.

Thanks to to the club I have been able to a lot of work on my 8 myself. Anything too challenging I would take to Capital City Mazda. However (here comes the rant...) I have had a few of bad services with them. I had a trailing arm bent (VTNZ said it looks like the car was hoisted incorrectly and led to a failed WOF). A bad front alignment which I am still driving around with (the steering wheel is turned when the car is driving straight!). When the replaced my rear suspension the spare wheel mount was reattached crooked AND backwards. Should probably have taken the car back to them to get fixed but leaving the car with them is an inconvenience and costs me each time. Those incidents plus their high costs has made me want to look elsewhere for a good mechanic.

There has been a big increase of 8's in the Cap. I have noticed that a lot of new owners also take their 8's to Capital City Mazda and eventually end up trying independent mechanics.

It would be great to hear of some good, or bad, experiences with the local Welly mechanics and your RX-8.
