Ok, I'll ask the tough technical question that everyone is no doubt thinking...does your wife ever visit your work place?

Luckily not very often Dave

Actually she doesn't care too much...just as long as I keep the house renovations ticking over.

A bit of solid progress was made this week with the design of the caliper brackets for the fitment of the 8-piston Brembos being completed. I hope to have them machined in the next 2-3 weeks. As usual, here are a few views from the solidworks model. The revised main hoop for the rollcage is ready to be installed when I get a chance.

Cheers,
Danny

After a discussion with a friend of mine today I did a bit of massaging of the caliper bracket profile to improve airflow around the caliper. It will be machined out of 6061 T6 aluminium alloy and has a mass of 506 grams. The next step is to see whether the right hand bracket is just a mirror image of the left hand bracket. Mazda do do some strange things from time to time, so I may have to do a little bit more R & D for the right hand bracket. Once done, off the to the CNC machine the solid model will go :!:

Here's the revised bracket.

Danny

Nice Work!
1. Now why would't the MX-5 OE mount from the trans to the rear diff. work / fit? I understand the MX-5, 6 spd trans is the same trans that comes in the 09 RX-8.
I also read someone is installing an LS6 motor in an NC and keeping the OE diff. This could be BS.
2. The underhood bracing on OE NC has a brace off the firewall to front towers. Would this help?
3. As for the seat bracketts will these fit in OE MX-5? (would like a set in my NC, but side air bags are also a good thing with all the drunks on the roads.)
4. Here in the states some SOLO racers are running 18x9.5, 45et. RPF1's with 285/30 Front & Rear under rolled OE fenders.
5. Very nice looking exhaust! Looks cheep!

Best of Luck!

Cheers MM. I used the RX-8 diff and the series 1 RX-8 6-speed which is different to the NC 6-speed. That is why the NC ppf wasn't used. The OE bracing is not particularly structural as it is rubber mounted into sections. I'm not sure what they were trying to achieve with it. The seat brackets were designed specifically for side mounting Sparco Sprint V's in the NC and won't suit any other seat.

I thought is was about time that I put up some piccies of some actual parts rather than just pretty CAD ones. :P

The below photos are of the trial fitment of the 355 x 32mm rotors.

This is the "race" rotor beside a standard RX-8 rotor (323mm x 24mm).

.....and they actually fitted!!!!

.....I couldn't help myself, I had to throw "Big Red" up there as well! 8)

Initial measurements are pointing towards the RH caliper bracket being just a mirror image of the LH.

Cheers,
Danny

I think you might need one of those F1 head restraint systems the first time you step on those bad boys.

Man I would still love a set of the seats & brackets in my mostly stock 06 NC.
Do you have any idea how much higher or lower they set than the OE seats? I wouldn't know what to do about the air-bag sensors.
Also like the roll bar in post #60 the 2nd photo. Maybe you should do some mass marketing for us street cars.
Can I ask who made the rear exhaust?
Again very nice work!

MM

MM, I haven't checked the exact dimension as I set the seat base height to suit myself. As far as the seat air-bags are concerned, I'm not sure how smart the air-bag system is...ie. whether or not it would realise if the OE seats/air bags were unplugged and result in a system fault.

Thanks! I like the way you're thinking ....actually I have a business with a friend of mine called MX5 Plus Parts & Service and we do already have roll bars for the NA & NB's so something for the NC is in the pipeline.

I've got absolutely no idea! I bought it out of Japan via Yahoo Japan. There's no manufacturers identity on it anywhere. Sorry I can't help on that one.

how are you handling brake balance? a balance bar set-up or did you select a specific piston area to match the current master cylinder?

Hi Jarl, the front/rear bias will be managed by the master cylinder bore size and an adjustable pressure limiting valve (bias valve).

Danny

Ok,
Looks like it's time to ask personal info! How tall are you?
I think I remember someone installing a resister to fool the air bag system.

As for your friend tell him to get with it. Their is only one guy here in the States that sell any type of Roll Bar for the NC and his prices show this.
PM me for his info if you want to. But shipping would kill any margins. Bulk would be best for your friend. I like the dual's because it would not restrict raising & lowering of the OE soft top.

Thanks for your time!
Randy & Meg

About a month ago I reviewed the project with regards to the supercharging of the 13B MSP engine. The program was to initially fit up the low boost non-intercooled Blitz kit whilst I developed the intercooled Eaton M90 option. Well as I've commented on it many times in thread, work and home renovations are still continuing to take precedence over the track car build...which is fair enough! However, it is over three years since I embarked on the project and I'm still not far passed half-way....as far as required hours is concerned....and I don't want this build to go much past the end of this year.

About three years ago I met a guy with the same passion to develop a positive displacement supercharger kit for the RX-8 and at that point in time he was in the early stages of testing. You all know who I'm talking about....none other than the infamours Hymee I have monitored Mark's progress very closely over the past three years and was stoked late last year when he told me that his first production run of kits was about to begin. The best part is that he is a local!

Obviously one of the most important parts of a supercharger kit is the supercharger. One thing that I really liked about Mark's kit was his choice of supercharger. Mark had bitten the bullet and based his kit around what I believe to be 'the best' positive displacement supercharger available on the market; the Opcon Autorotor. The Opcon Autorotor is a screw compressor as opposed to a Rootes Blower with a twist which I was going to use (Eaton M90). The main difference is that it has an internal compression ratio unlike the Rootes which just pushes air...boost is generated solely by the difference between what your engine can digest and what the blower can pump. A screw type compressor actually dispenses compressed air. Further to this benefit, is that it is far more efficent in both volumetric and thermal efficiencies when compared to the Rootes type.

For those of you that have not followed his sojourn, here are some images of his supercharger kit....the engineering is very, very impressive. He has done thousands of kilometres of road and track testing with the kit on his own RX-8.

Installed.....

Key kit components.....

Pretty impressive hey!!!!

In late January Mark returned to the engine dyno for final tuning so that performance numbers could be documented. Here's a quick vid of the engine dyno setup....

Well the numbers were simply astounding. Bare in mind that the engine had a chequered past as it was one of Mazda's test units for knock sensor tuning, been in a Mazda 323 wagon drag car for a while (naturally aspirated), all prior to having the supercharger bolted on for ECU tuning. The engine's exact condition was really an unknown...all they knew was that it was still running after the floggings it had been dealt . The engine is completely standard (ie. never been opened, therefore all standard seals and porting), although it did have aftermarket extractors. In naturally aspirated form this engine generated 225 flywheel horsepower...but with 13 psi up its proverbial on Premium Unleaded it made 340 flywheel horsepower  ...and with more aggressive timing on E85 at the same boost, generated 360 flywheel horsepower  . Refer to the below graphs. Another point of mention is that the tuning was done by a very well known tuner in the Australian Rotary scene, Phil Laird...affectionally known as Grandad :P . His involvement in the project further supports Mark's commitment to producing but nothing but the best quality product.

I'd say by now most of you who have just read the above have guessed what I've done :P . Yup, you're right...I've ordered a kit for the NC!!!

Of the 11 kits Mark is building, 8 are pre-sold (local and internationally), with some customers even paying in full! We have decided to up in size and go with a 2.6 litre per rev compressor for the NC and chase a reliable 400 flywheel horsepower. Now that I've put it in writing I've got to deliver the goods!

The kit is expected to be ready to bolt on in late June....I can't wait!!!!

Cheers,
Danny

I have been following for some time, and always had the itching thought of "why doesn't he go with Hymee?"

My question was answered

Many congratulations!

Great choice of Superchager , i was seriously contemplating getting a series II RX8 And giving it to the Hymster to play with and to R&D IT for one of his kits .

Knowing how many orders Mark has got for the series I cars i knew it would be too long a wait for him to work on the changes needed for the series II RX8 Supercharger .

So i decided to opt for one of these A 2002 Mazda RX7 Spirit R Type A ............

As soon as a good secondhand series II RX8 comes on to the market at the right price , i will grab it and let the Hymster perform his Magic i will keep it as a second car for daily use .

Any how heres the list of mods for my new ride currently running only.... 9.5 PSI its putting out 265 rwkw i am told that the car has been set up to be able to handle up to 400 rwkw
