I disagree, and you likely will too once you get that PTP kit installed. The turbo pipe runs right by the OMP and melted one of my stock OMP lines:

The SS/Teflon lines I made are still working great after nearly two years. And yes I check them regularly because when I pulled the stock lines off (somewhere around ~65K miles) they were so shrunk that I couldn't blow through any of them, not to mention so brittle that they nearly all cracked. I would wager that many cars are running around with little to no flow through the OMP lines.

The SS/Teflon line I got was somewhere around $3/ft. Along with pinch clamps the whole swap cost me around $40. And no failures with that hot turbo pipe!

I've mostly mentioned that for the purpose of providing some credibility to my post by displaying I recognize and understand the short comings of the OEM lines and as such have chosen to produce a product to compete with them, but in doing so have disagreed with your point of view, nothing more sinister then that..

When the time and budget comes and I see the advantages to advertising here I'll look into it.

I am speaking generally. IF a certain turbo kit (a couple do) interferes with the stock lines then it has to be addressed. But as I have said before, the stock lines are fine for 99.9% of RX-8 owners since he stock lines generally last to 100k without issues.

So using anything but stock does make some sense

Not just for the turbo either, IMHO. When I took out my stock lines they were so shrunk that they had no flow (even though visually they looked clear, just tinged yellow) and they were so brittle they just about all cracked at the slightest touch. They only had about 65K miles on them, a bit shy of 100K. I also wonder how long they had been like prior to that, I had noticed oil consumption dimishing but wasn't knowledgeable enough about the OMP system at the time to look into it. My homemade ones only have about 25K miles at this point, so it is yet to be seen how long they will last. But last I checked them a couple months ago I could still blow through all of them quite easily and my oil consumption has been pretty consistent since putting them in. For $40 I'd say this also makes sense for not shelling out $200 or whatever the current price is for OEM lines. Of course, to your point, putting them together correct is important, so if that is a potential issue then the extra money might be well spent.

Yeah I just see huge room for error in people making their own and I just don't see a point if you can run the stock ones. I have a few OMPS laying around from high mileage blown engines and the lines are fine on them so like a lot of things on this forum, I think the issue with them failing is a bit over exaggerated. And it's probably not just mileage, the environment probably plays a huge role.

That said, my OMP lines are about the only lines in my car that are still stock,

But I definitely know what happens when they do fail.

I wonder if there was any kind of change in manufacturing that may be playing into it as well... And I agree that making them correctly is key!

For anyone interested in making their own I called the place where I got my supplies, NW Hose & Fittings here in Spokane, WA. Their prices did go up a bit, now they are selling the 1/8" ID hose for $4.30/ft and the crimp connectors are $0.45/ea. When I made mine I bought 12 feet and I had about 2-3 feet left over. I wanted margin for error The 1/8" is tight to get the fittings into, but it can be done with a little lube, muscle and love. Wait, that came out way wrong They also have 3/16" ID but I don't think I'd recommend that at this point.
