MS Replica body kit @ Carmate

Hi all,

After several informative discussions with EZZY, i've decided to go ahead with ordering a body kit with Carmate for my Blue RX-8. (thanks for your help EZZY)

heres the break down of the costs..

$1400- full fibreglass kit (front, back, side and wing)
$1300- Painted & Fitted (2 tone)
$30- thin black wire mesh

one thing bothered me was the colour selection. I wanted the dark grey on the MS bodykit... but they couldn't guarentee the grey colour of the Mazdaspeed body kit, unless i came up with a colour code. So eventually we agreed on glossy Black...

so ... does anyone think i made the right choice? i was torn between matt black or gloss black..

i'll post some photo's when its done... should be sometime next week..
fingers crossed...

did you go to them for a colour match?
the weather lately is perfect for colour coding...
im sure they much have some sort of colour chart for you to look at.
if so, pick a gunmetal grey sort of solour.... i think glossy gunmetal grey will look look much better than either matt or glossy blk.

/no worries mate, happy to help.... especially we have a same first name (hope you arent scorpion as well.... )

Thanks Ezzy.. it was too late to change to gun metal.. so black gloss it is... hoping for the best.. who knows it might match the B Pillar Garnishes.....

My birthday is in Nov.. so i guess that makes me a scorpion..
(are you stalking me?)

as for the paint..

Yup .. the prices include paint

the painted and fitted price includes the paint.
they charged me extra $100 for the 2 tone.. (Blue and Black)

so all together is was $1300 for the paint, painting.. and also the fitting.

www.carmate.com

in the pictures you will see a yellow RX8..
that was their 1st install.. you will notice the pop up xenon light washers..
they told me that was a bitch to install, and that they would never do that again!
so they are chucking the washers...

i've ordered to fog light stay kit, but it looks like they won't arrive on time.. hopefully i can do this myself.

the kit is fibreglass.. its apprently a fairly new kit.. and i'm told it fits really well..
(i'll take photo's when its done.)

and Ezzy.. yeah i'm chinese!! but year of the horse..
phew!

Carmate Review

ok here goes..

if you want to deal with the guys at carmate, then you must must must..
insist on getting everything down on writing in full detail.

keyword here is in full detail.

reason why i say this, is becos there was an incident where the side skirts were not coloured in 2 tone like the rest of the kit as agreed upon on the quote. Because of poor documentation, alot of discussion was made over what was previously agreed upon. Carmate had always thought the MS side skirts were not 2 toned... after showing various official Mazdaspeed photos, carmate yielded.

anyway.. a few things to note of the kit from carmate.

1) its completely fibreglass.. that includes the MS spoiler.. there is no metal in the supports.. ( that one suprised me)
2) when applying fibreglass kits.. there will always be a need for touchup work ( according to them) i have attached several photo's of where they have scratched my body paint. >_< .. they will fix this with touch up paint apparently...
3) fibreglass body kits are not a 100% fit.. there will me mods to the kit.. (some things may not align properly... according to carmate)
4) when dealing with Carmate.. speak to the manager Steve for the best service. I'm afraid customer service from another individual there is quite lacking. (non existant rather) Steve helped me resolve my issue there.

in the end.. you get what you pay for i guess.. all in all.. the kit looks great... from a few steps back. Lets hope they get the touch up but correct too.

let me know of you want other pics or other info about the kit.

not too bad, i can see where it got scratched....
if i have remembered correctly.... i think i have suggested something about "make sure everything's in writting" ;-)
i'd ask them to "repair" it properly, not just touch ups....
its like.. if you f'ed up, you fix it.
