MP3 Port for new RX8

Hi all,

I would like to know what options there are for an mp3 player to hook upto the 8.

I do not want an apple solution, I want to know if their is a setup with a simple 3.5mm jack in the console or glove box.

Thanks

theres a thing called the auxmod.

Ive got it for my 8

its basically a small chipboard that simulates the tape deck.

You take out your head unit and plug it into where the tape deck gets plugged in

it has a line in jack that you plug into and you plug the other side into your ipod/mp3 player etc

for around $100 its not too bad and does the job for me

you could just buy the mp3 player addon but thats another $400 or so

The link for the auxxmod is here.....

Hope this is what youre looking for,

Drewman,

Thanks for that mate.

I am assuming this solution gives drivers the ability to connect a aux 3.5mm IN solution to their existing rx8 configured head unit.

With this 3 quick questions come to me..

1) does any thing hang out etc etc of the head unit...or can I Make just a 3.5mm jack "IN" port hang out in just the glove box..? (ie. I want a hidden solution)

2) is the sound quality as good as standard 3.5mm IN socket say in laptops etc, or is it diminished quality like tune into FM ipod solutions..

3) Is it a complex setup, and once installed, how good is the operation of using it. Do I simply use the AUX function, and then just add my sony MP3/Creative/Jlink etc branded player....I really am sticking as far away as possible from IPOD

by the way - is the $400 option you were talking about, the IPOD solution??

Thanks

Cheers

1) theres a cable that you route underneath the head unit that you can run under your dashboard. you can make it come out under your glovebox, copholder console or even rear console assuming your cable is long enough. So yes it is hidden besides the input plug which you plug into the mp3 player.

2) it is wayyyyy better than using a FM thingo and using the radio to tune in. cleaner and crisper. CD quality sound.

3) just plug in your mp3 player/laptop and press the tape/md button on the head unit. sound then comes out of the speakers and enjoyment is resumed.

4) the $400 is the mp3 player addon that allows you to put in a cd with mp3's burnt onto it into the CD player and it reads it and plays it. The auxmod is basically a line in jack.

Hope that answers your questions.

Cheers,

pretty much exactly what drewman said. My cable comes out from the side of the Ebrake and my Mp3 player is mounted where the seat heater controls are on the GT models. Only audio difference for MP3 players (I use a creative) if you use a power source (car power adapter) you may have to get a ground loop isolator. However, if you don't intend to run power to the MP3 player, you are fine. Jumping around this forum you can find all kinds of different ways to link up the cable. I've seen a few drilled into the black faceplate under the radio that looks nice as well. FYI - Auxmod is a breeze to install.
