fly wheel

I contacted selectmaz on fly wheel pricing and they suggested an exedy flywheel (part no. ZF01 the same as the rx-7).
at $745.00 including GST it is reasonably priced. You also need an RX8 rear counter weight ~$165.00 inc GST and 6 x flywheel bolts. no idea what they weigh but I thought I'd let people know they exist.

thanks it would be good to get a price to see if it can be bought for less. if you can find the weight out that would be good.

with the exchange rates the way they are a racingbeat flywheel is excelent value as it comes with the counterweight and bolts for around $800 to your door (if you don't get hit with gst and import duty).

Did a quick search on flywheels heres some of the info .

17lb for stock flywheel.... that is 7 kg. )

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...hlight=flywheel

MazdaSpeed is 14lbs which is about 6.4kg

Fujita Engineering is 5.5kg plus counterweight = similar to MS

I googled up a 12lb weight for the exedy one. + the weight of the counterweight. the RB one is 12lb but I don't know if this has the counter weight included or not.

I set my eyes on the Fujita one for very long and they are developed with the EXEDY, since their 8s and 7s all use EXEDY clutches.

I wonder it is actually the same flywheel but batched differently.... I think they are the same :p The price is the same too!

I think the RB flywheel is the best value for money, even with having to import it. Labour costs to install are also another thing that has to be taken into account. I believe it's quite a big job.

I have the Mazdaspeed flywheel sitting right in front of me at the moment and just measured the weight using my highly inaccurate bathroom scale. The whole package in the box is 17lbs, the counterweight is 3.8lbs and the flywheel itself is 12lbs. I guess the other 1.2 lbs must be the screws and the 3 pages of installation notes.

I already installed the srmotorsports extreme kit with 9.75lb flywheel and it is awesome took about 15minutes to readjust my driving habits but no driveability problems what so ever. and it is on sale til this friday

ps i did use the stainless clutch hose also

PLUS THE FLYWHEEL IS REBUILDABLE which is a key factor in my opinion

I reckon they might be the same as well. as the exedy weighs 12lb + the counter weight which maks them very similar in weight.

the racing beat on is 12lb including counter weight so it is a bit lighter.

fitting isn't a big deal. I was quoted $250 localy and they thought they had to remove and pressfit a ring gear! I doubt they were going to change the oil seals or bearing so add another $200 for mazda spare parts.

I don't think rebuilding is an issue as cars normaly go through 2 clutches but the flywheel is just machined flat and reused.

sorry if I wasn't clear. I know they are rebuilable as are other alluminium flywheels. I just don't think you will ever need to rebuild a flywheel. especialy not a steel flywheel the clutch disk will be replaced a couple of times before you will need a new flywheel.

best aluminium flywheel available locally is fidanza at $620 from adelaide clutch services.I have one installed. Flywheel is very light 8.5 lbs (same as racing beat) and quality is fantastic.Counterweight is 3.5 lbs and available from mazda dealer at around $100 dollars , making total weight of 12lbs.

Was initially concerned that drivability would suffer but this concern was completely quashed the moment I drove off with flywheel installed.NO need to have lots of revs on board to take off, my takeoffs are as normal, no extra revs required.Definitely has improved response and especially power though midrange to redline.

Now have racing beat revi airbox sitting in garage to be installed.Cant comment on performance but quality is fantastic.

Finally I know that hymee has developed cat back exhaust which yields minimal hp increases. What we need hymee to do is develop a high flow stainless cat midpipe ,as these offer much higher hp gains(areyou listening Hymee?

Regards

that fidanza one sounds interesting.
rocket industries quoted $565.00 for the fidanza. which is a reasonable price.

I got a local quote for $619 for the exedy one today. you still need the counter balance.

if the racing beat flywheel is made in the US and not made in mexico or somewhere else, then it should be tariff free. the worst you can be hit with for buying one from america is 10% GST and they come with the counter weight and all nuts and bolts needed.
