flooding/hard starting

I was one of the guys who early on had flooding problems. Even after the reflash the car was better but never felt quite right. Well the other day it was off to the service centre on the back of a truck for a third time. This time i really had the S&*ts and rang up Mazda Australia and told them what i thought.
Anyhow got the car back and was told that a fix had come out for this about a month ago.
I now have a stronger starter motor , a larger capacity battery and two hotter leading spark plugs. The chip was also reprogrammed. The car is so easy to start now , it doesn't even think about kicking over it just fires straight away.
This repairs were done "as per NS029-05" , if this means something to somebody.
If anybody else is having this problem i'd be chasing this up.

Glad to hear your problem solved at last.

Just a couple of quick questions: is this car your daily drive, and if so, what does that drive consist of?

I reckon this is related to slow traffic driving. I've noticed mine gets harder to start (but not a real problem yet) during periods where all my driving is in traffic (I mean 2-3 weeks). If I take it on a bit of a run, especially one that allows quite a few redlines, it's an easy start again.

Can't help it, have to say it, stop me someone. Too late! Traffic has not stopped me redlining!

There, done it, out of my system(til next time).

Have to stop reading the forum after a few drinks.

Cheers guys

No the car is not my daily drive , but "my days off car" at which time it gets driven hard like it should be. This is my third rotary so i now how these things like to behave.
However my days off can mean short drives around the inner city where i live or a 'drive' to the mountains or up the coast. At most the car may not be driven for 2 to 3 days.

This sounds like my pattern of use. Because I use public transport to get to work and sometimes have no need to go anywhere during weeknights, sometimes my car can sit for 5 days without use. Gets driven hard when it is used and I probably redline it at least 2-3 times each drive in various gears when properly warmed up. I also give it a quick rev just before switching off if I've only driven a short way (in which case I haven't revved it hard 'cause it is not warmed up).

Point of all that is that I've noticed from time to time it is hard to start. Never had it not start but it kicks over a bit before the motor starts, like the starter motor is struggling to get the engine to 'catch' (if that makes sense :o ). I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

Thanks for letting us know about the fix.

I've had the same fixes applied courtesy of Mazda, I have made mention of these before in another post

Getting there slowly, now I just need my new battery box to replace the one they broke when they replaced the battery, and oh yeah the car is starting to develope another strange noise just before the cat converter. I am hoping that it is an exhaust leak!! (easy fix if it is!)

Thanks for that Ro4Me, I mentioned my flooding problem when I faxed in my "to do" list to Grand Prix Mazda Aspley ahead of my 40k service next week. I also mentioned the recall, copying in material I lifted from this forum.
