Lightbulb Custom Sub Box

Hi guys,

My car is currently being measured out for a custom sub box similar to the 4080 coming out of the US. I am looking to fit a single 10" JL sub and hence it will be a quite similar in size.

I told the frabricator/installer that I would put the word out to sound out any interest from the Oz 8 community. If there is interest he will look at creating a mould rather than a one off.

Let me just say now, I have absolutely no vested interest in the process once my box has been fabriacated as such I dont know what the price will be but once installed I can vouch for quality of build and sound.

I only post this up as I know how frustrating it is fitting anything decent into the boot given our already limited boot space and lack of options for enclosures. I really like the 4080 but its a killer to get it shipped here

As I said, let me know if you are interested and I will pass it on.

Maz

i second that except my sub is 12" its probably the same but you need to cut a slightly larger hole.

WHere is the sub going to be mounted?

passenger side wheel well...do a search for 4080 and you will see the finished product on a few cars. In terms of 12" it aint gonna be just the mounting...you will also need a bigger box to meet the specs for the enclosure...more room = more worries as we all know

I thought you had 2x12" in the car (last 3 words added for taka )?

You do need a bigger box for a 12 but how about one that is seated under the spare wheel?

Kinda like the one I already have but at least you wont have to strap it in!

Maybe ill just get some MDF, measure it out and bring back those mad D+T woodwork skillz

i see...so instead of a spare you boys have a mdf box with a speaker in it think of this enclosure like a space saver for your setup

anyways...I got a chance to have a look at the side of the box that will be sitting up against the car yesterday. Nice and neat and a good fit. Hopefully we can achieve the required volume for the 10"

hopefully by next weekend I can have my JL installed and pumping through some much needed bass!

no idea mate, not sure what the shop will charge...but based on what I am paying I would say 350ish...now before everyone falls of their rocking chairs bear in mind, based on my research (and I urge you to do your if you are interested), these things get upto the 1k mark and that the 4080 is around the A$350-400 mark before shipping.

that said I'll leave the setting of the final price by the shop I'll just point anyone interested in their direction and you can work out the finer details directly...

Its really good to see you taking that extra effort in doing something for the sub box. Are you plannin on adding another amp, or changing the interior speakers also??

defintiely another amp...on the shopping list is a JL 500/1 to power the famed JL 10W6v2!!

in terms of replacing the remaing speakers...not sure at this stage. I am pretty happy with the setup and with the sub I think it will complete the package...I know it can be better but there are other priorities on the car at this stage...but we will see as time progresses and funds become available or not

hmmm...I think the bose system is quite clear...I will have to do some reading about the rewire...I wouldnt see what you could do that would lose the steering controls? any audiophiles on here shed anymore light on that?

I can imagine there will be a challenge in ensuring the sub is well blended with the current bose system but thats one of the reasons I chose the JL setup...fingers crossed lol

correct about participation in SQ comps or DB drags!! I want quality home cinema not IMAX
