Brand New & Requiring Advice
Hey Guys,
My name is David! I'm a Kiwi bloke who is looking for an RX-8. Just reading all the amazing stories on here makes me water at the mouth. I think I'm in one of the best countries in the world when it comes to driving a handling machine like the RX-8!
I'm not an owner yet. I've been reading all the advice here over a few months as a non-member. I had trouble signing up a few times, but here I am. I have an RX-8 in mind at the moment and based on the information I have read, this is potentially a good buy.
Here goes!
I'm looking at a 2006 Mazda RX-8 Type S (6 speed manual) with 18" alloy wheels.
Miles: 59,948 (96,477KM)
Body: Blue MazdaSpeed Full Body Kit with Spoiler and tinted windows
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual
Warranty: It has a 12 month warranty on the engine rebuild from RX7 Heaven as of September.
The engine has been rebuilt by a reputable rotary outlet in Auckland New Zealand called "RX7 Heaven". They specialize in rotary engines. It was re-built in September last year. I am enquiring as to why it was re-built and I know a compression test is MANDATORY. Loud and clear!
It has also had a new clutch installed and the paint seems to be in good nick.
The owner wants $15,000 NZD or 13,760 AUD
My questions:
- Is this a reasonable price?
- I understand this is the more favorable car among enthusiast...Does that mean it will hold it's value? Or will it devalue just as much as any other RX-8?
I know it many not increase in value, but if I'm buying an RX-8, I want to be smart about the type I buy. I'll buy higher if it means I get a better car that holds it's value for longer.
I have attached a picture. I hopefully look forward to sharing my joy in the future if I manage to strike a deal.
Best regards,
David

Hybrid Greddy Boosted
Just saw this post. Here's some input if you're still on the fence about this.
Price looks OK. The miles are pretty high, but since the motor has been rebuilt that's not such a bad thing.
Resale value should be good as it's 6 spd and quite hard to get a Mazdaspeed kit in NZ.
May be worth asking the owner how recently the coils were replaced (with the engine rebuild?) as these should be done every couple of years and are one of the more expensive maintenance tasks.

Hey guys,
I'm reviving this thread as I'm still on the look out. I come with another question!
I've been learning about the 2006 RX-8 Prodrive PZ model and at a glance it looks attractive, but the improvements (which some argue aren't improvements at all) don't seem that great. It is a limited edition and it is the only one currently in my country (New Zealand)
It is a long way from home to travel to pick the car up. It currently has 70,000 kilometers (43,500 miles) and the asking price is $18,250 ($15821.29 USD) but looks to be in great condition...etc...
Considering I can pick up an RX8 with less milage on it in a nice red colour with the red/black leather combo (which is the kind I want) MUCH closer to home for $10,000 NZD (or $8669.2 USD) is it worth the extra? Will it turn in to a sort after collector in the future?
...Just wondering. I know I'm buying the wrong car for collecting, and it would be cool being able to say I have the only RX-8 of this model in New Zealand, but I'm not sure if others will recognize that as a bonus.
If this has been discussed in a previous thread, please let me know. I'd be interested to see the discussion in detail if it will help me make my decision, but your input here is truly appreciated.
Cheers,
David

Hey there.
Just my $0.02 but being a Prodrive means very little for the collectability. Prodrive aren't strongly tied to Mazda or widely recognised in NZ so I don't belive PZ's will go up in value in the future.
You're better off going for the one you're looking for (red + red and black leather interior) but getting in cheaper imo.
Unless of course you want to buy a really nicely modded one with all the right parts... If that's the case you should check out my listing lol.
