2013 RX8 Mystery Tour
Well its time I got off my *** and started to put together, (along with your help) the next RX8 Mystery tour.
At this stage after after some consultation with Brettus, we are looking at Easter ( March 29-30 ) as the date to run the event.
Now this will depend on a few things. I'll ask a few questions and if you can all answer them, that will govern how the event runs.
We are looking at running the next event down in Taupo and hoping to attract a few more people from down country to come and attend.
1) Would you like to have a one night or two night overstay in Taupo? ( If one night then the event will be a one day event, if two nights then the event will be a two day event ). We will go with the majority.
2) Does anyone on the RX8 forum live in Taupo, have accommadation in Taupo, know someone with accommadtion, basically know somewhere we could put up 20 or so people for a night or two.
3)Would you like to see other Rotary powered vehicles come to this event?
Basically at this stage the idea of the event is to have a small show and shine get together as a start and then run a mystery tour the next day.
We will expand on this as time goes on and lay out the event plan as we get some feed back from you guys.
So lets get started and see how this all turns out. Let some people know its on again and lets make this the best event yet.
Regards
Rotaman
Its now the weekend of March 23-24, and starting in Hamilton
Overnight accommodation cost will be $30 per person
Start Point:- Hamilton Gardens, Gate 1, Cobham Drive, State Highway 1, Hamilton, at 9.30am in the first car park.

Come on Slidin8, it probably would be quicker for you to come up to Taupo for this next event, then it will be for me to drive down for it, and I'm not complaining.
Get a group of you and take a ferry ride, make it a good weekend away. We would certainly like to meet you all.
All so everybody there are 3 questions I would like you to answer, not just one.
Thanks
Rotaman

N/A prob wont attend due to other commitments round that time
2) Does anyone on the RX8 forum live in Taupo, have accommodation in Taupo, know someone with accommodation, basically know somewhere we could put up 20 or so people for a night or two.
N/A
3)Would you like to see other Rotary powered vehicles come to this event?
YES (as i dont have my 8 anymore)
On a side note i was looking at other groups that we could join with to make the event bigger. the best organized one that I have seen is the mx5 club.
Mazda MX5 Club Inc - New Zealand - Zoom Zoom
They do have an event planed for easter weekend but it is in napier. They did do an event in taupo last year and may have an accommodation that they could recommend if some one contacts them.
Also it would be cool to see mx5 vs rx8 out and about (either on track or road)
Just my 2cents.

Would be really keen for this although apparently I'm getting married on the 30th of March and she doesn't seem that keen to move the day.....I just won't get to add that third sticker to my back window

sweetfa, its looks like she's got you under her tumbs already and you aren't even married yet.
Lets see how things come together, as it seems so far that there isn't that much interest.
Would be good to get some interest from some of the RX8 owners down country.
Thanks

1) Not sure. Maybe the event could be planned as 2 days, but with 1 day for the main event so those that couldn't make it for 2 days could still come for 1??
2) Sorry, can't help there.
3) I don't see why not. Joining up with the MX5s would also be cool.

With so little responce from anyone else apart from the people from previous events, I am looking at canning the event altogether.
I'm still thinking about it, but I'm a bit pissed off with life at the moment, so this may be what happens.

Just to toss another idea into the pot -seeing as no-one from down south seems to want to join us and $ seems to be an issue with two nights . What about starting south of Akl. again (Hamilton maybe ) then driving to a destination where we stay over night - not too far away that so we can all get home from there . Maybe with a show and shine in the morning before we head home ?

Here's an update of what's happening with the 2013 Mystery tour.
Its not going to be in Taupo now and we are going to start at the Hamilton Gardens, Gate 1 off Cobham road SH1.
Start letting your friends know, the event is going to be an overnight stay, so don't forget to pack ya jarmies and toothbrush.
There's going to be varying types of roads from nice and quick to lots of twisties.
So hopefully something to please everyone.
Also looks like something good to stop and see on the way with a bit of NZ history.
If there is anything you might like us to put into the event, please feel free to mention it.
More info to come

Tried to organise something down here in Chch that had 0 response so I'd love to be able to join you guys up north to show my support... Unfortunately the ferry costs a fair bit, to drive all that way and back in 3 days would be a killer on petrol (not to mention the comfort factor) and I highly doubt anyone else from down here is going (driving up solo would be a bummer)
Good luck with the event tho guys.

Good to see a few people are keen to go, lets hope we find a few more.
Bremma, you and Slidin8 should get together and come up in one car and share the costs.
Or you could fly up and I'm sure we could find a couple of cars to put you both in. Certainly cheap enough to fly up from Christchuch to Auckland nowadays.
I'm sure we could also find you some where to stay if needed.
Anyway as to the date of the event. yet to be confirmed, but Easter was where we were originally looking at when we were going to make it a two night event, but now its just an overnight event, so I'll talk some more with Brettus and see what the consensus is?
The Leadfoot festival is on the 22-24 March if anyone is interested in going to that as well. - have a look and let me know - Leadfoot Festival — Welcome . Cost is not cheap at $95 a day, but would be good to see. A few Rotaries are racing.
I suggest if you know anyone else that has a Rotary powered road vehicle that may be interested in coming along for a weekend, ask them to come along.
We don't want this to become a Rotary hoon fest, but would be keen to see some interesting Rotaries turn out.
I've gone over the first part of the first day and some of the roads are looking pretty good.
The first part of the first day is going to be run much the same as the other events, its a sheet of instructions and questions that will get you to the finish.
The second part of the first day is going to be a convoy/caravan up to the next destination with a stop on the way for photos etc.
Anyway give us some feedback and we will do some more.

I'm a definite maybe if I can organize babysitters etc when the date is confirmed I'll be there. I'll also invite someone from work that I recently discovered has an RX8.
