There's plenty of cop bashing threads, so I offer this as a bit of balance.

Got pulled over on my lunch break. Saw the po-po on the side of the road, and the 8s breaks are quicker than the cops hand pulling up the radar gun. He waved me over anyway, asked how I was doing then if I was in nat'l guard b/c of my plates - they are war vet plates. He said "I pulled you over for no front plate. Slow do a bit. You're all set." I thanked him, asked about the RI plate display law (I have the plate in the pouch on the passenger seat) & told him I just couldn't put it on the front. To which he replied "Yeah, it's a really nice looking car, just put the plate on the dashboard."

They're not all bad. Thankfully.

Brakes, not breaks.

 brakes, right.

^ I'll have to fashion something to display it on the dashboard. I hadn't really considered the side of the road speed trap. I figured I'd have time to toss it on the dash when cops are behind me.

is that actually legal in your state? Here in CA, it must be affixed to the vehicle in a manner in which it was intended to be displayed (meaning front and rear of car....windshield means nothing) =(

plate on the dashboard can equal 'cut throat' of passengers. :(

and if that happens, you could never be the HEAD of a major corperation!

It is legal - just has to be displayed, not necessarily on the front. Though this particular cop didn't really care, and the previous one I had the pleasure of speaking with on the roadside didn't even mention it. Personally, I think it is one of those things (like my illegal tint) that is only an issue if you're a d8ck to the cop, or the cop is a d8ck.

dmp - I had the same thought. If I can't find a safe way to do it then the plate stays behing the seat. Until I actually get a ticket, that is.

Speaking of...

I barrowed my friends Radar detector he has in his GTO and I drove around with it for a bit and it didnt beep at all. Yet I saw at lease 3 or 4 cops. He told me that it only beeps if they have their radar on... but most of the time im speeding is on the FWY and i can spot a cop on the side of the road like the back of my hand, I need something to tell me when a cop is up ahead (driving) or behind me catching up (driving)... I guess to me Radar detectors arent THAT Much of help. but yeah, to get back on topic. Ive gotten pulled over on my last car because of sound level... my exhausts were loud, no Cat, straight pipes, 4 exits. so the cop walks up to the side of my car and when he gets there, i start to roll down my windows right in front of him (note: Limo Tint) I was completley fucked... I failed to mention I was speeding about.... 65 on a 35.. not too much. so anyway... I roll the window down and hes like, Are you in a rush to get somewhere? Im like, no sir. then he says, you know you were going 65, right? im like, "yeah, im aware of it, i just didnt realize I was indangering anybody" he said, your exhaust is extremley loud, i heard you trying to not gas it as much when i told you to pull over" then he said, "and your windows are tinted.... where you headed?" I said, to the shop. he said, "alright... if I was CHP I would have taken your car away... just be careful on your speed and drive safley... if you see a cop, put your windows down so they dont see it... have a good day, bud" /pats me on my shoulder, walks back to his car.

..... :O

yeah, i sat there in my car for like 2 mins just thinking..... it felt like one of those Super Trooper Moments...

so there you have it....
... not all cops are dicks........... only CHP.

the end.

There are definate advantages to the RX-8 breaks and lightness -
We have a speed trap that usually sits at the bottom of Questa grade on Hwy 101. That a big long mountain with a 7% tilt - so you can get up a lot of speed and with 3 or 4 downhill lanes some of the heavier cars are tempted to play games with little RX-8s - but a Corvette or BMW have a lot of mass and once in motion tend to remain in motion - thus troublesome challangers may suddenly find themselves helping the SLO county economy....
