Thirteen hundred miles on the odometer. Only thirteen. And . . I received a rock onto my windshield on the freeway driving home this afternoon. There's a certain sound when the windshield cracks . . and mine cracked! A very small hair-line break, almost perfectly centered, a small distance up from the wiper arm. And, to the side of the impact area are a couple of smaller surface craters. These don't have fracture lines . . yet. Bummer!!!!

Although the happening is not his fault, the offending car was some old dude in a brown mid-size Buick, out-of-state plates (Oklahoma), poking along about 60 MPH in the left of three lanes heading west on I-40.

The first booboo is painful. Perhaps, though, better my windshield than a chip in the paint and dent in the body surface.

Perhaps I will alter my driving style to attempt to maintain as much clear distance ahead of me, even if it means 'threading' around and through traffic, passing on the right and such.

Make sure you get the chip filled so it doesn't result in a crack.

that sucks are you going to get a new windshield or try to just fix the crack before it spreads

Many insurance companies will waive the deductible and pay 100% to fix the chip so it doesn't spread. Either way, take care of it soon. And make sure they won't jack up your premium if you do this; I've heard insurance companies are getting into the habit of jacking up your premium just for asking about a claim, even if you don't file one. Sux!

Around these parts, if you have comp. coverage, windshields are replaced @ 0 deductable.

Glad for you that it didn't get the paint or lights!

I've been staying well behind, more than I used to, and it's rubbing off on my driving habits with my other cars. That's good.

Sooner or later though,,,
