Just saw on the whatcar website that BMW have launced a 'cheap' Z4 for a shade over 24K. Before everyone goes off telling me that the RX8 is in a very different category and appeals to a different buyer, there are many on this forum that do not need the extra 2 seats and surely, this is not a bad deal....

Fire a way!

Anything less than the 3.0 would upset me. Cant be doing with having anything but the quickest model....

Not flaming you Ed, just the car. It would need to be a 3.0L to become slightly interesting, and specced up they are well over £30k. At this price I would take a Boxster any day. Better still an S2000 for £25k.

The phrase "All show and no go" comes to mind for the base model :)

the guy that sits next to me at work had one day after release

issues he's had so far

- chrome tailpipes not fitted, they were posted to him and he was asked to fit them himself
- aircon broke down, took a week to fix
- roof was stuck up as the latches in the boot that release )as first stage of the motor) failed. This took 5 days to fix.

So, not a good start so far!

Although the Z4 is indeed a very beautiful car, its still waaaaayyyyy off the top spot in the category. S2K, MR2, even MGF could beat it on a track, and all it has going is its looks ;)

It will need the big engine to bring some sparkle into the equation, and by then it will be way more expensive than that......
