Had a reply from that nice Mr Twine :

"Dear Mr Dickinson

Thank you for your e-mail dated 28th August 2003.

With regard to the delivery date for your Mazda RX-8, you (and other
pre-order customers) will be receiving a letter within the next 48
hours
giving more specific delivery information. I am unsure where you got
the information
that production for UK vehicles is 3 weeks late as this is not the
case.

With regard to the situation in the USA regarding the advertised power
output of the Mazda RX-8, this situation does not apply in the UK as
the
advertising and marketing of this model is vastly different from the
UK.
The top RX-8 model for the UK has been homologated at 231ps (at the
flywheel).

As you a senior members of the RX-8 Forum I am sure that this reply
will
be posted on the website in order that other members are aware of the
situation.

Yours sincerely

Chris Twine
Customer Assistance Manager
Mazda Motors UK Limited"

Thanks for the update Rob, but as you will agree we have heard it all before, lets just hope this guy and Mazda are telling the truth for once.

I think I have asked this before, but does anyone know what "homologated" actually means in this context? Is this an independent test, or are there legal requirements for Mazda to supply accurate figures? And how much margin for error is allowed in these figures?

The letter seems to be implying that this homologation gives us some kind of guarantee (unlike in the US), so we should stop worrying about this issue. I'd love to be convinced that that was true.

Thanks for the news.

Let's hope the letter is positive or at least gives a firm commitment to a delivery date.

I can't take this wishy washy vague stuff we've been getting:mad:

SOME GOOD NEWS WOULD BE MOST WELCOME READING THE FORUM OVER THE LAST WEEK!

I returned "upbeat" from my hols last weekend, I now need to consult someone over my depression.

Cheers
