View Full Version : Dealer handling of cars?
BlueAdept 08-28-2003, 04:54 PM OK,
Assuming everything goes smoothly, what can we expect from the dealers in regard of looking after our cars?
I personally want to get a service at 1000 miles, at least an oil change, but I'm sure it's listed as optional... are they still obliged to give this free?
Also, I would expect to get a car with very small mileage on it... I've been told that 6 miles is about average... so any more and someone's been test driving YOUR car... Somone said that their dealer was "picking the cars up" at silverstone... sounds dodgy to me, hope they aren't driving them back, or round the track!!!
What do people think?
Not heard that about Silverstone. If it is true, I wouldn't mind collecting it myself and have a couple of laps while I'm there.
Wouldn't it be great if they arranged a say 50 or so people pick their cars up at the track but before we took them away, we had instruction in Mazda's cars on the track.
has anyone heard anymore regarding the Prodrive day?
PaulC 08-28-2003, 05:32 PM Silverstone (27/10) is a dealer event where they pick up their demonstrators apparently - according to my dealer !
Our cars should be delivered on transporter I hope !

There's no 1000 mile check in the owners manual, not even an optional one. I'm sure they'd be glad to do it for you, but not for free since its not part of scheduled maintenance.
BlueAdept 08-28-2003, 05:57 PM It's odd... I've not bought a "new" car before, but everyone I've spoken to said that they are obliged to give this to you if you ask...
That said, I would be happy to change the oil myself, except the owners manual says you need a special tool to change the filter... I guess they'll be selling me the tool then!
oilman 08-28-2003, 06:00 PM WHAT DID HAPPEN TO PRO-DRIVE? GONE QUIET.... LOL
NO BLOODY GOOD IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER IN SNOW AND ICE.
NO WAY IN MY NEW CAR:eek:
Cheers

BlueAdept 08-28-2003, 06:05 PM Funny, I asked if it could be defered to "next summer" really early on... and everyone tittered because we were getting our cars in July... D'oh!
morganrogers 08-29-2003, 01:44 AM When I placed my £1000 (way back in January I may add Mazda....) I had a number of points that I checked with the dealer.
One of those was that I did not want my car to be driven AT ALL before I collected it. e.g. off the transporter and I would be the first. If there was a problem with it , I am quite capable of reporting it - I do not need someone else giving my new car 9K revs with 10 miles on the clock ! ! !
Anyway , He assured me that no-one would drive it , and it would definately not have people clambering in and out of it in the showroom either.
Hope that puts your mind at rest....
BlueAdept 08-29-2003, 02:18 AM I'd be interested to hear your list of points in that area, see if I've forgotten anything!
morganrogers 08-29-2003, 02:39 AM As I recall my list went something like -
- If I order this car , can you guarantee that I will be in the first 1000 cars ? (There was some incentive that we now know to be the pro-drive day but at the time may have been a Le-Mans trip) - Dealer - "yes".
- Given that it will be one of the first cars , I do not want it put in the showroom and having people clamber all over it. Delaer "No one will be allowed to have a 'sit' or anything , it will not be in the showroom".
(Bear in mind at this point I was the only pre-orderer, so I thought it may be a big deal. He now has about 30 !)
- I am 6'3". Much as I want this car I may be too tall. Can I have a full refund of deposit on grounds of height if it turns out I dont physically fit ? Dealer - "Yes - I would have no trouble selling your car to someone else".
- I dont want anyone to drive the car before me - no 'thrash it up the road' as it is the first and therefore a novelty. Dealer "No-one will drive your car except off the transporter".
- My last car came without floormats which really annoyed me. Will you put a set of mats in it ? - Dealer "OK, as a gesture for my first order , I will put mats in it".
That was about it - I gave my £1000 , I got a Mazda ordr sheet (which noted the height clause and the free mats) and I left.
I contacted Oilman that day and he then went and bullied his dealer into accepting a deposit also !
Since then it has been a constant catalogue of cock-ups. The 28th Feb EP number fiasco (although I did OK with EP91) , the delays, the lies etc etc.....
There you are - my list of questions as I remember them.
Morgan.
AnilS 08-29-2003, 02:41 AM Prodrive details will be sent after car is with the new owner and can be deferred to summer 2004. Thats what Mazda rep told me at Gaydon.

AnilS 08-29-2003, 02:43 AM Sorry, for to add, about the oil. I thought on new cars, especially sporty ones, they put a very "thin oil" in and oil chage it after 1000 miles like Subaru do.
