View Full Version : I wish the Rx8s would disappear.
oryas 09-08-2006, 02:36 PM I've been a proud owner of the RX8 for over two years, but now I am seeing too many on the road. I miss the days when I could drive around the LA area and not see another 8 for over a month. Lately I can't go a single day without seeing 1 or 2. I miss the exclusivity.
NgoRX8 09-08-2006, 02:37 PM as do i. which is why i mod.
captain mercury 09-08-2006, 02:53 PM same here, although ive only had my car for a year. the 1st half of my ownership definitely saw less 8 saturation on the roads. oh well.
NoTears316 09-08-2006, 03:05 PM I loved the summer and fall of 2003 when no one knew what the hell I was driving.
YT1300 09-08-2006, 03:08 PM No one still knows what I'm driving around here...
j67345 09-08-2006, 03:16 PM I was thinking the exact same thing when I lived in LA.
I just moved to CT a couple months ago (not looking forward to leting my car sit in the garage all winter)....and I've only seen maybe 4 in the two months I've lived here.
dmc27 09-08-2006, 03:28 PM Ha. When I saw the thread topic I thought: you could always paint it silver.
mac11 09-08-2006, 03:34 PM just think how bad it would be if you drove ANYTHING domestic.
mac11 09-08-2006, 03:39 PM or a civic
Endor 09-08-2006, 06:23 PM I took a road trip from Michigan to Florida and only noticed maybe 3 RX-8s the whole trip, and they were parked at various places. I get back to Michigan and now I usually see three RX-8's just on my daily commute to work (5 mile drive).
Here's to the Lohr Road Commute crew in Ann Arbor!
I used to be the only RX-8 (Ti Gray 6-speed, no appearance package) at my workplace. Now there are 2 more (black 6-speed and Ti Gray 6-speed with appearance packages). aaagh biters!!
Old Rotor 09-08-2006, 06:35 PM Be proud you were the leader not the follower, wave to them.
XDEEDUBBX 09-08-2006, 06:44 PM Just Be Different And Make Your Ride Stand Out!
JeRKy 8 Owner 09-08-2006, 06:49 PM That's why you should have bought yellow. :yumyum:
By the way...it's only going to get "worse and worse." These cars are cheap used.
9G Redline 09-08-2006, 06:54 PM I still have the only 8 in my hometown. Now my college town I'm one of 4, but everyone sees mine more than the other Silver, Black, Ti ones around. Plus, they're all stock. I have a few mods that make people turn there heads. :)
SayNoToPistons 09-08-2006, 06:57 PM Wait 20 years.
gummyAvenger 09-09-2006, 12:19 AM I hardly see any here in Nashville. Last weekend I drove down through Atlanta and east of Athens... I didn't see a single RX-8 coming or going.
c41250n 09-09-2006, 12:53 AM i just want them stop making rx8s, so our car wont depreciate as much!
Razz1 09-09-2006, 01:43 AM Ja, you think you got it bad......
We have 7 or 8 here in Costa Mesa. Two just down the street.
Good thing is I have the best mods.
Hardly see any moded 8's unless I go to the club meet.
Then it's who got what and who can beat who each month!
Yee Haw!
Did I mention my 8 feels like it gets stronger as it gets older?
I ran into a 69 yr. old at the track and he said those rotories are notorious to oput out a hell of alot more HP than what the dyno says.
Wo hoo!
User24 09-09-2006, 02:41 AM You're currently riding the crest of local RX8 popularity, but it should dip back below the radar in several months. Repos, carbon build-up, oil starvation, and jittery hands that drop the RX8 at the first sign of bad news will take their toll on the local population.
By the way...it's only going to get "worse and worse." These cars are cheap used.
Fortunately, the high-school ricer crowd will never find the RX8 fast enough for their purposes, and the college Jetta crowd will never grasp the concept of rotary ownership. That leaves the trailer crowd, the family crowd, the 50 year old doctor who isn't driving Porsche like all his colleagues, and the elderly.
The trailer crowd will never put up with the gas mileage, the family crowd will always want one but will always end up with a minivan, while the doctor and elderly I can stomach pretty well as their numbers are few. "These cars are cheap used" means one thing: low demand.
I used to be the only RX-8 (Ti Gray 6-speed, no appearance package) at my workplace. Now there are 2 more (black 6-speed and Ti Gray 6-speed with appearance packages). aaagh biters!!
You have to understand that those guys aren't like you. Most of them are parked in the lot like a noob, waiting to get owned by a car door. You can already tell with absolute certainty, that those drivers will not be holding for the long term. Also, try to understand their mindset and where they are going with it. They saw your vehicle, they went to the dealership, they drove it, they took it home. Today, they attempt to recreate the thrill ride feeling from the test drive and end up 11-12 mpg.... (yes, they were so awestruck during the test drive they did not notice the gas needle was dropping rapidly).
Remember, there is the advertising commission to fall back on in a scorched earth scenario. It's simple: people get paid to drive cars that are branded with a soda can. Now, your car comes with "Buy a refreshing RX8 right now" writen all over it. If everyone and their dog were to start driving the RX8, by the time they cash in at the dealership, you're already cashing out for a GTR, MT900, or Gallardo with your massive advertising dividends.
Lastly, the RX8 is on the verge of being scientifically confirmed as a living vehicle. It's like a horse, basically. How can anyone be willing to sell their horse? That's just plain unethical.
horse - (or as the Japanese call it, a Washu).
mac11 09-09-2006, 09:49 AM what the bloody hell are you talking about?
Smokin_LaLa 09-09-2006, 11:58 AM Just take it as a compliment, i know its nice to be different but the 8 is a car of its own class and hey great minds think alike cept for the 8 auto drivers :P lol just kidding
BunnyGirl 09-09-2006, 12:48 PM I don't usually see many of them. The ones I do see are all in a few block radius of where I work, LOL. I have to take a detour on my way to work for a while (condo construction closing road) and I see a red one everyday in front of Northrup Station, which I had never noticed before, but it's there every day I go through. There is another blue one that parks on the street at the hospital I work at, but I haven't noticed it in two or three months now. Jisoo26 works(ed) a few blocks from me and hyogen parked in the same garage as him, but he's moving and I thought I read the other one sold his now for a Civic recently. :dunno:
Stavesacre21 09-09-2006, 12:52 PM Guess i'm just lucky here in Ohio...I still am lucky to see one in andy drive under 2 hours. Heck, on the way to Tennessee and back, I think I totalled only 3-4 the whole drive and week I was there. :dunno:
I was however mistaken for both a ferrari and viper on one occasion :scratchhe
ken-x8 09-09-2006, 01:49 PM ...elderly I can stomach pretty well as their numbers are few.
Always glad to be stomached. :worship:
We're few, as are the 8s, which makes us special. I got my 8 because the time came to do mid-life crisis, and for someone at my age the 8 screams "mid-life crisis - get it while you can!"
I like the uniqueness. I've had mine for not quite two months, and have seen less than half a dozen others on the road. Big change from my Honda Accord. My arm was pretty much worn out from waving at all the other Accord drivers I'd see,
Ken
Jax_RX8 09-09-2006, 02:45 PM I would rather see too many, rather than not enough. Sales is what keeps Mazda making these puppies. If you want another one (next gen?) one day, then be pleased to see them on the road.
Buy a Spyker. I haven't seen any of those on the road.
Shinka-Dono 09-11-2006, 07:31 AM I was thinking the exact same thing when I lived in LA.
I just moved to CT a couple months ago (not looking forward to leting my car sit in the garage all winter)....and I've only seen maybe 4 in the two months I've lived here.
There you have it. If you're seeing too many 8s on your local roads everybody can just move to Connecticut.
Wait... :scratchhe
MissyK 09-11-2006, 07:42 AM I've been a proud owner of the RX8 for over two years, but now I am seeing too many on the road. I miss the days when I could drive around the LA area and not see another 8 for over a month. Lately I can't go a single day without seeing 1 or 2. I miss the exclusivity.
this is a great excuse to do major mods and be completely different to every other rx8 :mdrmed:
wankleman 09-11-2006, 07:56 AM There you have it. If you're seeing too many 8s on your local roads everybody can just move to Connecticut.
Wait... :scratchhe
haha, the only good thing to come out of connecticut is sportscenter and Joe loserman losing in the primary
TomAssBender 09-11-2006, 07:58 AM That's why you should have bought yellow. :yumyum:
By the way...it's only going to get "worse and worse." These cars are cheap used.
I'm puzzled on how the transfer of ownership is going to make it "worse and worse"? There are still going to be the same number of 8s on the road.
BigOLundh 09-11-2006, 08:04 AM Ha. When I saw the thread topic I thought: you could always paint it silver.LOL!!
willofgod 09-11-2006, 11:47 AM I am personally happy that many people are buying this car. Speaks to an increasing after market market.
overdrive 09-11-2006, 12:27 PM I've been a proud owner of the RX8 for over two years, but now I am seeing too many on the road. I miss the days when I could drive around the LA area and not see another 8 for over a month. Lately I can't go a single day without seeing 1 or 2. I miss the exclusivity.
PM me for the wire transfer info... I can make them disappear if your pockets are big enough. The only other required items are a flashlight and toothpick.
Huey52 09-11-2006, 01:52 PM I rarely see another '8, and never an '05 Shinka. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. :)
Mandy 09-11-2006, 01:59 PM I like seeing other 8s while driving. I make it a point to wave, or at least smile when close to them.
I usually don't get acknowledged, though :(
Rootski 09-11-2006, 01:59 PM This thread is funny, because Mazda wishes they'd disappear too.

i was going to say i would wave but i cant even add you on myspace so i wouldnt wave either. :bootyshak
Mandy 09-11-2006, 02:16 PM i was going to say i would wave but i cant even add you on myspace so i wouldnt wave either. :bootyshak
:Eyecrazy: what's your myspace!? I'll add you!
pedsrx8 09-12-2006, 09:20 PM I rarely see the 8 around here. Last weekend I drove up to Canada via the NY throughway-700 miles of driving and I only saw one!
Huskyfan23 09-12-2006, 09:42 PM I was thinking the exact same thing when I lived in LA.
I just moved to CT a couple months ago (not looking forward to leting my car sit in the garage all winter)....and I've only seen maybe 4 in the two months I've lived here.
You might see me.....where in CT do you live? I'm in Cheshire.
My RX8 is same color, stock 18" rims. At least if I ever see your car, It's distinctive. But you're right, not that many RX8's in Connecticut. Even less with the GT package (where the extra trim on the car makes it look a ton more agressive).
Shinka-Dono 09-12-2006, 11:08 PM haha, the only good thing to come out of connecticut is sportscenter and Joe loserman losing in the primary
Hey! Us Connecticuters have done a lot through history. The first medical degree and PhD in the U.S. were given here (Yale), first Submarine (and later the first nuclear submarine), Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin here, insurance companies (we are sorry and deeply regret that one), the first Hamburger was served at Louie’s Lunch in New Haven, Igor Sikorsky invented the first functional helicopter here, Robert Jarvik inventor of the artificial heart (which has kept people alive for days), Some Yale students figured out you could throw pie plates around at each other (Mrs. Frisbie’s pie plates), Elias Howe invented the sewing machine, Colt invented the revolver here and a CT native Charles Goodyear invented vulcanized rubber (Goodyear Eagle F1’s are awesome btw).
We also invented trees, air and women.
OK, nm, we’re small, rich and within walking distance of NYC and Boston.
KJ238 09-13-2006, 12:29 AM When my baby sees another rx-8, the wipers stand up...
Detrich 09-13-2006, 01:17 AM i live in LA also and have noticed a lot more 8's on the road as well... overall, we are still way in the minority compared to other cars on the road. so, no need to be bitter or sad about it.
in fact, if you look at it with a sense of humor, it's quite funny actually. if it makes u feel better, for every single 8 that i see each week, i probably see:
* several dozen Honda S2000's: Looking like a miniature "8 wanna-be's," but really ugly, mutated, insect fly mobiles.
* several dozen Mazda Miatas: Cute, cuddly, "girly cars" that wish they were an 8's, but sorry- not a chance.
* several dozen Subaru WRX's: Each one uglier than the next, regardless how big and ugly that stupid exhaust looks.
* several dozen Mitsubishi Eclipses: Good god, get that ugly ass image of a car out of my mind!
* several gazillion Toyota Celica's: NEXT!
* several dozen Nissan 350z's: If there isn't such a thing as a 350z prick yet in the dictionary, there ought to be.
* several Infiniti G35's: The more "civilized" siblings of the 350z pricks- except they just don't realize it. Pricks.
* several dozen Chevy Vettes: When the back looked good the front looked like shit. Now vice versa.
* several dozen BMW M3's: Yah, and an equal number of pricks driving them. What a waste of such a great car...
* several dozen BMW Z4's: Sleek, elegant, but has a big ass hood like a boat. Maybe it floats too...
* several dozen Lexus IS's: "WOO HOO look at me, i'm in a L-E-X-U-S." Good and hope u get car-jacked, asshole.
* a gazillion dozen BMW 3's: The most superficial "I've made it car" of our time in LA. Ok, i'm guilty as charged too...
* several dozen Audi A4's: The "I REALLY wanted a BMW, but this was slightly cheaper and only slightly uglier... Plus I'm in BMW denial, but just don't realize it yet."
LOL
TomAssBender 09-13-2006, 12:28 PM I wonder how all those drivers classify us RX-8'ers?
LostAngel 09-13-2006, 12:33 PM the new college class here has brought about 3 new ones. :(
BunnyGirl 09-13-2006, 12:52 PM Elias Howe invented the sewing machine
Yay! Thanks to that man I have a hobby!
overdrive 09-13-2006, 01:17 PM I wonder how all those drivers classify us RX-8'ers?
They call us slow :)
Roach 09-13-2006, 01:32 PM I live in SE Michigan and I rarely ever see one. However on the day I bought mine I drove by two on the way home...
