View Full Version : I've decided to kill myself because of the HP issue

GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD.

I've had enough of the Mazda discrepancies regarding the horsepower. 250? 247? 238? 225? I can't stand it.

Forget the fact that the car is fun as hell to drive and accelerates plenty fast.

Forget the fact that the build quality makes it like a $40,000 car.

Forget the fact that it handles better than most cars on the road.

I just can't stand telling people that my car could potentially make less horsepower than previous. God forbid I tell someone that it ONLY makes 238 HP. Or 225 HP? Even worse. It's just too hard to live, and have decided that this is the only true way to solve the dilemma.

IF YOU ALL HAVENT NOTICED, THIS IS SARCASM.

That's it!! Why didn't I THINK OF THAT? The Answer to this all. At the appointed time, we'll all go out riding into the sunset with the roar of the rotary echoing across the landscape, destined to torquelessly zoom-zoom the highways in the sky for all eternity. Sigh. :p

Can I have your car if you're going to commit sepukku?

Uh......having owned a $40,000 car I can say with absolute certainty that the build quality of the RX8, as well as materials used, IS NO WHERE NEAR the build quality of a $40,000 BMW.

Good looking? Yes.
Fun to Drive? Yes
Fast Enough? Probably
Great Build Quality? Compared to a Korean car, Yes.....Compared to a Mercedes, BMW or Lexus........No.

If you gimme a second I may be able to find my spare cyanide tablet! :D

I would say it's better than the IS300... that's the worst of all the Lexus line.

It's a step above Nissan, probably on par with your Acuras in Japan if you had to put a comparison with it though I admit... there are some cheap parts (the center tunnel) where a higher grade of plastic could have been used.

Having driven both BMWs and Mercedes, as well as 3 Mazdas...I'll just jump in here and say.....well, that simply isn't correct.

Mercedes quality has gone siginificantly downhill in the last 5 years, as they have moved further into the mass production world. The E320 and SL500 I've driven have had transmission problems, sunroofs break (E320 only obviously :))....another big problem is paint deterioration. The SLK my father owns is a year old, and has spider webbing everywherer.

On the BMW side, if you've ever owned one, or asked someone that has, you'll know two things:
1-They get interior rattle, more interior rattle and then even more interior rattle from brand new. I sent my 330Ci back to the dealer 5 times to get a variety of noises looked at.
2-Never own them off warranty, as they will BREAK your bank account.
Also, My CD player also broke twice, and the headlights got constant moisture in the lenses.

I'm certainly not saying that BMW and Mercedes aren't high on the quality totem pole, but My past MX-6's and current RX-8 (for the first 2,000km anyway) demonstrate high quality and workmanship, and are at least on par with the big Gerrmans.

hmm. I too owned a BMW, a '96 328is coupe MSRP base 32,990 + the other stuff. Compared to THAT car which easily goes to $40 with just a few BMW accessories I would say that the RX8 is every bit as well built as that - better in fact. I know that the purpose of the forum is not to compare, yet I read the above comment by Tom and have to reply.

I'm glad someone is finally treating this situation with the seriousness it deserves. Just don't throw yourself in front of a passing RX8, because it may not have the power to do anything more than bruise you.;)

THANK GOD Mazda managed to keep the FUN FACTOR at 100% even with less HP. It takes Nissan 50 more HP to deliver a less satisfying drive. :D

Higher grade = more weight.

Why would you want his car? It's only got 238hp!!! It sucks, man!!!

Seriously, I too had a 3 series BMW, I finally sold it because the monthly maintenance was over twice the monthly payment for 6 months straight. My advice would be to never keep one of those things past the warranty period.

I also test drove a brand new 330ci just a few months back, and it already had developed rattles over it's 67 mile life.

Lets face it, if you want great quality go with a Lexus, or Infiniti. As for me, I'll take the 8 anyday.

Compare it to a C-class benz, the 8's interior is definitely better. I went and checked a couple of these out a couple of months ago just for the hell of it since I have access to a DC employee discount. Especially for the price they are pretty disappointing.

Compared to my coworker's late model 325i, it's better. That was the first brand new BMW I had ever been in at the time, and my initial reaction was like "What, this is it?" The 330Ci I sat in at NAIAS had these "aluminum look" accents all over the interior that were really obviously plastic. I mean we're talking Hasbro here.

Compared to the new A4 though, the Audi definitely has a nicer interior.

It was only a matter of time before I got into trouble on this forum (as I have done on so many others).
There is a third generation RX-7 in my driveway. Clearly one of the sexiest designs and most amazing enginered vehicles on earth.....and yet it was killed as an American car .WHY? Fools would not pay the price. People line up all day to pay for (insert your flavor here) but just did not get it when it came to the third gen RX-7. I am warming to the RX-8 (sorry folks I am not a backseat kinda person) but it is this eliteism of the Lexus- BMW thing that justs twists my knickers! I have had a number of BMW's NICE very NICE (amazing.... as in the sit at the right hand of the father kinda thing..... naw). Lexus ,,well nice in the same way that my grandparents liked their soft seated leather kinda nice as well.
Mazda has (oh God now I have done it) BALLS! MIs reported horsepower well yah we can all grouse and spout our opinions but who really cares? (sorry autocrossers I know you do -HP impacts placements) My point is MAZDA keeps sticking it out there....bringing the Rotary to light in the first place and then bringing it back (in a world where you can be shredded in one internet sweep).
Sorry about the HP thing but KUDOS MAZDA for having the brass to keep sticking it out there and building cars for real enthusiasts. You may go to hell or into bankruptcy for it but I for one am glad you keep doing it. Return your RX-8 geeez it's like returning your baby caus ya don't like its looks at birth. OK I am done now...back to the home.
