I just found out one hour ago that my engine is blown. I only have two aftermarket parts on the car and they are Espelir JGT500 exhaust and a AEM Cold air intake, both of which are for sale in the sales log. How many of you guys have had the engine blow before 50,000 miles?

Is the car going to be the same after they put a new engine in? I am wondering after I get a new engine if I just should get rid of it?

Any comments would be helpful

there's a recall being issued on monday. if your dealer isnt aware of it, i think you should make them aware as it may be the reason your engine died.

 

Yeah the engine has been losing power just over he last couple of days and then it just wouldn't go. The dealership is aware of it and they believe that it has to do with the recall they said it has all of the signs that the recall is

 

Well, you should get a new engine under warranty with the new ECU Flash then.

As long as it gets fixed and they dont' give you **** about the mods. Hope it all works out for you.

 

The mods aren't the problem because it was having issues before the mods went on. So they said as long as the Intake was off it was absolutey fine

 

Do you like the car? If you do then let them put the new engine in and enjoy yourself.
If you hate the car then get rid of it.

Well, that depends on the snake.

And, to bring this analogy back on topic...

That depends on the aftermarket stuff. It also depends on the dealer. And it probably depends on you too (i.e. if you try to hide them and fail, the dealer will think you're dishonest and assume the worst about you).

 

Couple of questions: where do you live and how would you say you drove the car . . . i.e. drove it like you stole it, babied it, highway, city, etc.?

 

if NOTHING was done under the hood, i may be able to qualify right?

 

I live in California bay area and i do not race it, mainly highway use.

 

That'd be consistent with the problem Mazda announced then.

The dealership said a Cold air intake is not going to cause engine problems unless water was sucked up in it.

Yes the dealership will replace almost every single engine out there if there is a sign of loss of power.

I do not drive the car hard at all and mainly highway use.

 

Fast RX8......which dealership did you take your 8 to? I always go to kings. Also, sorry to hear about your engine. Hope all works out.

 

I recently had a new engine (Ford remanufactured) put into my F-150 and it runs like a new one. So engine swaps should not cause a problem with a car if done properly.

I just took mine in to the dealer here in Vegas for a clicking noise and stalling out issues. It has 21000 miles. He called me yesterday to say they had ordered me a new motor and that Mazda knows of the issue and will be replacing it under warranty. It is a compression issue where they are not getting enough oil into the motor and it is causing them to blow. he told me they are considering a recall for this and that the new engine will be stronger than the original.

 

Well I got my car back after they replaced the engine and wow does it feel different. It almost feels like a different car. I love it, the only problem is that now with the new engines they use even more oil than before. They reccomend you change the oil around every 2000 miles. I can see now how my engine was starting to go.

 

do i need to take the aftermarket exhaust and drop it off for the recall?

 

Exhaust they will not care about only the engine
