zeblien 08-23-2006, 09:06 AM Ok, so I traded in my ford and Im now driving a 2006 a/t Cherry Red Shinka! The only realy odd part on this car is that it has a tape player, but eh who cares! Great car, only 100 miles on it. Im taking it for a drive this weekend out of town... looking forward to it.
Picks to come soon.
Hightshoe 08-23-2006, 09:32 AM That is odd, did it come with the mini-disc player as well?
zeblien 08-23-2006, 09:37 AM mini-disc player? never heard anything bout it.
No, just the 6disk mp3 + satilite raido 1 year and .... gerbils...6 of them.
4 years to Supercharge 08-23-2006, 09:39 AM That is odd, did it come with the mini-disc player as well?
That part is interchangable ;)
Taps into the piano black section under the preset buttons.
4 years to Supercharge 08-23-2006, 09:40 AM Still have a Ford horn though
Sound familiar?
zeblien 08-23-2006, 10:17 AM No, havent had the chance to honk yet.... were are the old people crossing the street when you need um.
snizzle 08-23-2006, 10:32 AM Congrats man, welcome to the club.
I love the horn on the 8.... it commands attention, unlike my g/fs Saturn.

Just hit your lock button twice on your remote. You'll get a quick honk.
zeblien 08-23-2006, 11:37 AM ... what about adding fog horns?? The trunk seems spacious enough to hold a good size tank of air....
Lol....
BunnyGirl 08-23-2006, 12:29 PM

When a coworker pushes her lock buttons on her key her car gives out this pathetic little "meh."
zeblien 08-23-2006, 12:34 PM Well thats why you get fog horns.... its just a really loud meh that can be heard from inside the super wallmart you parked next to.
Clavius 08-23-2006, 12:34 PM

When I first bought the car I was walking infront of it as I hit the lock button twice.. OMFG it scared the crap outa me! I wasnt expecting it.. I was expecting a lil measly "meep" if that. Though blasting the horn for over 30seconds does command respect and fear outa people when/if they cut you off, or if they are in the fast lane going hmm -20mph below the speed limit. Never knew they used a "ford" horn but yeah sucker is loud. Just need to install a P.A. system and have Ludacris's sound byte of "Move Bitch Get Out The Way!" haha...
And to the OP welcome to the club and ignore our lil um hysteria at the moment on another thread.
DrDiaboloco 08-23-2006, 12:38 PM When a coworker pushes her lock buttons on her key her car gives out this pathetic little "meh."
I'd prefer the "meh" to the main horn. My dad's old Audi had the "meh", which sounded like it came from another part of the car than the engine compartment, maybe right-rear near the trunk...
Mom's Subie wagon uses the main horn, too, which is massively annoying as it apparently can't be disabled (unlike ours where you don't get any horn at all unless you hit the lock button TWICE) and you get TWO honks when you unlock ("meep-meep").
Gotta love the sound effects in here. :)
zeblien 08-23-2006, 12:44 PM How do I disable the alarm?
Oh dang it.
NoTears316 08-23-2006, 01:53 PM The only realy odd part on this car is that it has a tape player, but eh who cares!
Awesome... kinda reminds me of my first car back in 88. It was a 73 Impala and had an 8-track player.
Design1stCode2nd 08-23-2006, 01:57 PM Welcome to the club, I also and the recent owner of a Copper Red Shinka, enjoy and post pics.
dmc27 08-23-2006, 02:08 PM Congrats!! Just posted this in another thread - can you say hijack?
Zeblien - you actually bought one of these POS mulligans after all the sky is falling threads?? lol.

If it's a new Subie there is a way to disable it, at least I did in my WRX when I had it. I just don't remember how. Something about holding certain buttons for certain periods of time...
BunnyGirl 08-23-2006, 02:18 PM My coworker has a Jetta that makes the "meh" sound. There is a lady that gets off work around the time I am getting there. She has a Honda SUV that is fairly new, probably within the last year or two. I'm not sure what model it is but when she pushes the buttons to unlock it her horn sounds twice. It scared the crap out of me one day. I was walking in front of it (she backs into her spot) as she was unlocking the door. She laughed and told me her car was just talking to me. LOL
I don't know about the other models of 8s but my 06 GT (transmitter thingy) makes a single high-pitched electronic beep sound when you push the remote button once for lock, twice for unlock, same thing when you use the buttons on the door handles. It does make that really loud horn when you push lock twice on the remote. I have to remember to only push it once at night when I get home from work so I don't disturb the neighbor if he has already gone to bed.
zeblien 08-23-2006, 02:46 PM Why is it the only place I see the special edition name "Shinka" on the side of my car, but nowhere inside? Most special edition cars make sure people know its one, inside and out.
Also, what does that name mean?
Not "failing engine" i hope.
NgoRX8 08-23-2006, 02:47 PM umm... the leather should tell u its shinka.
shinka means evolution i think.
The Shinka for '06 isn't really a special edition like the '05 was, it's more just an option package.
WhiteDealershipRice 08-23-2006, 03:05 PM Shinka is the japanese word for "evolution" or "transformation" (or more accurately the concept of "to evolve" or "to transform" remember, the japanese language is concept based, as oposed to most western languages which are word based)
yes, as Ike said: for '05 Shinka was a special edition ( had a numbered plaque on the engine compartment and a unique color, headlights/taillights.)
for '06 it is a trim level (still has the tan leather interiors, black interior trim, urethane filled crossmember, exterior badging, and Navi is NOT an option on it) but they can make as many as they can sell, as oposed to '05 shinkas that once they were gone- They were gone ( I think thet made a little over a thousand worldwide)
zoom44 08-23-2006, 03:09 PM merging two threads together- i didnt see the reason to have bit about the shinka or not as a seperate thread
zeblien 08-23-2006, 03:17 PM Oh so realy, in this case, Shinka means "evolution in marketing stragities". Oh well, I guess I can put a decal inside or something!
Thanks. I have learned a bit of japanese basics, like all the hiragana katakana, and grammer, but vocab is not very good yet.
zoom44 08-23-2006, 03:22 PM but the Copper Red is only available on Shinka Models. you can get aShinka in a couple other colors but ONLY Shinka are copper red
zeblien 08-23-2006, 03:23 PM you mean dark cherry. ;) Copper rusts.
ZoomZoomH 08-23-2006, 03:25 PM i like my tape deck
zoom44 08-23-2006, 03:27 PM i think I FING know what the color is called.
copper does not rust. rust is what happens to a ferrous material- something with IRON in it. by defintion COPPER is NOT IRON. it does oxidise but then it has a"patina" of green which is very dsirabl. of course this wont happen to your car 'cause it isnt covered in COPPER, its PAINTED a color called COPPER RED
zeblien 08-23-2006, 03:28 PM Ya, if I kept all my tapes i would like it too....
OMG i just realised i havent kept track of them... im sad now that i have no idea where they all went. I was going to play tubular bells tonight. How do I adjust the base? and is it worth it?
edit: lol zoom... I think your just making up colors.
zoom44 08-23-2006, 03:33 PM i think you want to be banned
zeblien 08-23-2006, 03:37 PM Seriously? Because I am calling the car cherry you are setting up to ban me? wtf.
dmc27 08-23-2006, 03:42 PM Mazda website - build a vehicle - rx8
"COPPER RED *available in shinka only"
Choose your battles wisely . . .
zoom44 08-23-2006, 03:42 PM your catching me in a mood. i just had to close like 7 threads all over the forum "is there really a recall?" then you wanted to be smart and correct ME. when i was explaining why your car is definetly a shinka which is what you asked. its abit annoying to go around trying to help people and ferret out all this info and then get disrespected.
dmc27 08-23-2006, 03:45 PM You're doing a hell of a job, though.
zeblien 08-23-2006, 03:46 PM I can understand... but considering colors on cars are specific when refering to them, for such things as touchup paint, its really not plausable to argue copper vs cherry... So it was all in fun. Thanks for that info though.
Also, it doesnt say in the book that the 6disk plays mp3's. But on the sticker outside the car when i looked at it, it said mp3/cd.

I think it's a '98. I'm not even sure that you can't disable the audible portion of the alarm, it's just what pop told me after reading the manual (alllllllllegedly!). Next time I'm visiting them I'll have to see for myself, I just took his word for it.
zoom44 08-23-2006, 04:11 PM my wifes is the same way diaboloco and its annoying. cant be defeated without disconnecting the horn entirely.
DrDiaboloco 08-23-2006, 04:23 PM What a great design, wakes up everyone in a two-house radius if you want to unlock the car in the evening... Perhaps not a bad thing if you don't LIKE the neighbors. :)
SilverEIGHT 08-23-2006, 05:05 PM Who's on first?
zeblien 08-23-2006, 05:12 PM I thought he was on second?

I don't think you can do it on the '98, I'm not sure on this but I think '02 and newer you can disable the audible sound.
BlueSky 08-23-2006, 06:08 PM So how's that Alcantara material on the seats? I've never felt Alcantara before.
zeblien 08-23-2006, 10:29 PM whats that?
BunnyGirl 08-23-2006, 10:35 PM The suede-like stuff.

Welcome to the Forum and enjoy the ride.

More importantly who's on third?
:scratchhe
Easy_E1 08-23-2006, 10:51 PM who's on first ,,whats on second ,,I don't knows on third.
hoosier 08-23-2006, 11:28 PM Tape deck??? Ok, so the last guy/gal that owned it ordered the tape player which means he/she had tapes, which means that he/she was old and maybe drove the car in a civilized manner while listening to the pan flute or maybe old Vegas entertainers. Or, they were my age (old) and listened to recordings of Led Zeppelin cause they had the tapes left over from the 70s and drove the crap out of it. Look for doobies under the carpet.
DrDiaboloco 08-23-2006, 11:45 PM Or maybe the car came from the factory like that... As mine did, ya doobie fiend.
So how's that Alcantara material on the seats? I've never felt Alcantara before.
Stick your finger up your nose until you can feel your brain and you'll probably find some useless synthetic feeling material very similar to alcantra.
BlueSky 08-23-2006, 11:53 PM Jeezus, did that help harden your e-wang or something?^^^
Jeezus, did that help harden your e-wang or something?^^^
A little bit... :fruit:
Winfree 08-24-2006, 12:49 AM You don't need to disable the alarm you just need to use the same electronic key you pulled out of the starter, and open the door or click the door opener or restart it depending on whatever works first... and the best way to test the alarm is open your window, pull your key out of the starter, get outside the car, put your arm through the window and mess with the locks - It really really hates an arm through the window. You will then enjoy the horn, a lot. This is when you get to test all the ways to turn it off! I sort of accidently did that the second day I had mine, at a filling station. As I worked out the various starts and stops for the system, a goober wondered over and asked "Are you sure that car belongs to you?" . Mom took up for me and said, "She was just trying to attract cute men, wanna race?" When I got home, I got out the manuel and worked out the system.
