View Full Version : An exercise in futility....

I think you all remember this:

Well, I dont know if my opinion will be valued here considering im a 350z owner, but I'll give it anyway.....First of all, when I saw the rx-8 at the dealership, I was floored at how beautiful the interior of the car was. It's leaps and bounds over my car. I was so taken with the car that I actually went to the dealership 2 days in a row to see it. It's a truly lovely design, from the 18 inch wheels to the rotary motif displayed throughout the car, I absolutely loved it. BUT, then I drove it. The one and only aspect of the car that I was truly dissappointed with was the performance. Now, I'm not flaming so please be patient. My OPINION is, I thought the springs were too soft for a sports car, and it did not have the acceleration to back up the wonderful design of the car. It seemed to me from the moment I hit the accelerator that the car didn't pull quite enough. That for me made all the difference, and now that Mazda has skimmped on the horsepower rating, I no longer view the car as a possible threat in the performance category. Although the car is quite beautiful, we all know that horsepower sells, thats why i'm a 350z owner. Initially, I thought the vehicles price was steep, but I accepted it due to quality of the interior, but now that the horsepower has been decreased, i'm not as willing to accept the price. Nonetheless, with this whole horsepower issue, the package is just not as attractive as it once was. Again, this is just my opinion and NOT a personal attack

So I tried a reverse formula. Let's see how that works out, and see if I'm out of line when I say that it's not an appropriate way to begin discussions, especially with a first or second post. If I'm wrong and the FreshAlloy ilk show me mercy then I'll eat my words. Bets anybody?

My OPINION is, I thought the transmission were too poor for a sports car, and it did not have the handling to back up the wonderful design of the car. It seemed to me from the moment I hit a hairpin that this car understeers. That for me made all the difference, and now that Nissan has skimmped on the interior, I no longer view the car as a possible threat in the category. Although the car is quite beautiful, we all know that handling sells, thats why i'm a RX-8 owner. Initially, I thought the vehicles price was steep, but I accepted it due to excess of horsepower, but since the handling is prone to understeer, i'm not as willing to accept the price. Looks like you got the exact same response there as he did here. I don't see the point?

I don't understand why Herc was chastised and the other thread closed. I thought his response was well presented and reasonable. There have been much more obnoxious threads that were permitted to ramble on.

I'm sick of the Z vs. 8 thing anyway. They are different cars and will appeal to different people for different reasons. (They both appeal to me for different reasons, but I bought the RX-8 and have no regrets.)

The point here is a valid one. Why do Z owners come to our site to cause trouble? Enjoy your cars and leave us alone.

It's just an illustration that when you come preaching your stories about <insert your car here> being better than <insert other car here> at the latter's home base... then it's not going to be taken well. Which all I'm essentially asking for is the same courtesy you'd want, give to us when you're posting here.

If we get ANY 350z guys over here flaming us beacuse of that, I'm holding you, Herc, responsible. As Toadman said, 350Zowner came here and posted a valid, POLITE view. Deal with it. And don't troll on other forums. You know better.

Personally I wouldn't tolerate the truly flagrant threads to continue whereas my thread that merely welcomes somebody to the forum, presents my opinion on HIS opinion, and explains that it's generally not the greatest idea to post inflammatory remarks the first post you make, gets my 'last warning' before I'm banned?

Regardless... I'm not one who cares about what others think (as can be seen) and I'll continue to state my opinion on different matters. I feel there are members here who have trolled for eons and really need to be removed for some time, and nothing has been done and I'll continue to state that. It's amusing to me that when I try to state a clear case of my distaste for the trollish posts that have been popping up I immediately get scolded and yet.. the ones who truly disrupt discussions and debates are left alone. I am glad BOOSTD 7 came along and ridded us of a few of them, and hopefully he'll stick around to continue doing the job that others feel is not necessary.

Either way... I'm going to wait and see how this thread progresses. With the first response already it's amusing to see that the response to my post was met with more hostility than when I posted in response more calmly (albeit in a flamboyant manner at the open) to the 350Z owner that wanted to divulge his opinion.

Let's see what happens from this.. I'm curious :) It's an experiment!

I went on their forum, and posted the *exact same message* except to change around a few things to attribute the 350Z.

If you felt that *his* message was polite, then mine should be as well because I used *his* language. And if I'm flamed off that board and the trolls from the 350Z board find their way over here... then am I in the right for my calm response or in the wrong just because?

*sigh*

Yikes. It looks like they have a small pipi complex over there. They bash the 8 to justify their Z purchase. What is better is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone is going to have a personal opinion of what is better. As for me, Mazda could have slapped a rotary into the MPV and I would have bought it. I just like the simplicity and uniqueness of a rotary powered vehicle. A drag race between a stock Z v.s. stock 8, the Z will win it every time. Although in my opinion a tuned N/A 8 will beat a tuned N/A Z in the same race. What it all boils down to is: you buy the car that makes fits your needs and personality. As for me the 8 satisfies those requirements and as for my neighbor it's the Z.

Please keep the thread on topic... the entire point of this thread is an illustration that people that own <insert car here> and come here to tell us the RX-8 is bad because of <insert reasons here> and why their car is better, won't be welcomed well and should not expect to be by both moderators and the users themselves.

It's also a proof that would show that my response (which I still think is not inflammatory though I did start out on a fiery beginning) is not nearly as poor as what will come if I posted a similar message about <insert car here> and why my car, the RX-8 is better and I'll try to sell it to them.

So I'm going to be patient and wait while the responses on that site form up... I'm sure they will come as the day goes on because a lot of people are still groggy (myself included) and we can make conclusions based on that.

For a show of hands though... I'd love to know *what* was inflammatory about the remarks I made yesterday. I think people read the first line and not the rest of the post but perhaps I'm just missing something. If you read it thru let me know if I'm truly just being offensive or as I feel... engaging the debate.

The intro is a bit "firey" but I've read much worse on this forum. I found myself rooting for you though in defending our car against the invading Z-troopers.

It's not so much the 'fighting of the Z soldiers' but just to keep a level of civility and debate that is elevated on this forum. Sadly it seems to not be the case as of late.

The Freshalloy 350Z forum is not a popular spot for Zers to hang out. If you want to act as a flame bait to get their unwanted attention, you would have to go to one of these forums.

www.350zforum.com
www.my350z.com

However, Hercules, I strongly urge you not to do so as it will bring even more chaos to this forum. (unless that's what you intend to do just to prove a point) Let it go, delete this thread and stop trying to be a hero. The 350Z owner's opinion was straight forward and fair, but your response was not. Just leave it at that.

Wow well the past 8 private messages I've gotten were curious why my response was declared 'inflammatory' and the thread closed.

Most people (myself included) don't understand what was *so bad* about my post aside from the opening line.

So if you'd clue us all in.. feel free.

This thread is no more than an attempt to bait 350Z owners and the moderators of this board. Closing.
