I ordered this nose today. I had a question about the front grill, and was wondering if anyone that had bought it could answer this for me. I did a search but it turned up nothing. It says the center grill and oil cooler openings have a powder coated front grill. I was wondering if anyone knew if I would have to order the steel screens they sell for the openings or if the grill that comes with the bumper will do. Once I get this puppy installed I'll make sure to post some pics because I can't find many on the forum. Thanks again,
Will

It's in the mail, due in on wednesday... the guys from racing beat were very helpful when I called. Supposedly the grill that comes on the front nose is the same as the stock bumper. So you do need the screens (good thing I ordered them!). On a different note, I have never posted pictures of my car, so I guess now is the time to do that... Just hate to do it with all the scratches and such (I got into a wreck with a barbed wire fence :spank: ) but who cares...
The only side without dents or scratches:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/res4.jpg
Backside... scratches on bumper and just under trunk lid:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/res3.jpg
Dent from where I hit the fence post right infront of rear tire:

Another picture of the scratched on the bumper:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/cares1.jpg

So in a few weeks my car will look pretty different, this is a list of what'll be done:
Clear corners
Racing Beat Front nose Type II
Racing Beat Grill, painted to match wheels
Rotora Slotted&Drilled Rotors
RX-8 B Pillars
Mazdaspeed interior red foot lamps
New stock back bumper (2 toned paint)
Rear lip spoiler I got from J here on the forums
2 toned paint on car (indention, roof, trunk to match wheels everything else stock silver)

I'll make sure to post pictures when its all done,
Will

So I got in my Rotora rotors and clear corners today. Was going to install everything tonight, but as I worked 8 hours, I am damn tired and only put on the back rotors and clear corners. The clear corners were a really easy install. The only thing that took some time was popping out the reflectors. Everytime I heard a :CRACK: I bit my tongue... it was scary lol. The rear rotors took a lot longer than the clear corners as you have to take off the calipers... that was probably what took the longest. My old stock rotors had cracked for some reason, making a thumping sound when I used the brakes so if I was gonna switch out one, might aswell do them all, right? lol. Anyways, I'll stop yappin' and show some pictures:

Clear Corners before:

Clear Corners after:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/clearcorner2after.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/clearcorner1after.jpg

Rotors before:

Rotors after:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/wheel2after.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/rowingadeadhors3/wheel1after.jpg

PS: Yes I know everything doesn't line up right on the clear corners... when I got in my wreck, it bent the front bumper down. It is going back into the shop tommorow morning, I picked it up from there after work today to install these guys. I think all in all, it was a great upgrade. Clear corners look clean. Rotors are lighter, eliminate the brake thumping, and improve breaking from what I can tell so far. comments?

I have not seen any other pictures other than racing beat's. From what I hear, their type 1 is a perfect fit so I'm expecting no less from the type 2 bumper. It comes unpainted. As soon as I get it on there I'll get some pics up. My car goes in for 2tone paint, paint chip, and dent repairs. Come the end of next week will have it back from the shop and I will post the progress. Hopefully my B pillars come in before then too. It is a busy month for my 8

Figured I'd give an update. The trunk, roof, and hood are drying right now from paint. I just got in the RB nose & gill today. I willpost pictures sometime next week with everything done. I cannot wait to get my car back looking so pretty. It has sucked not having a car the past 2 weeks.

Tamas

Yeah, it looks pretty good. This is fiberglass, right? I wonder how flexible it is, so that it won't crack.

One question though: what's the point installing the RB oil cooler screens? Looks like the bumper comes with mesh already, so getting the screens is overkill and it even might decrease airflow.

Does anybody actually have the RB rear wing? I have never seen any picture of that, apart from the pics from Racing Beat themselves.
From the pics on the forum (or lack of them) it looks they are not selling too many of their body kit pieces.

Nice... did you only get the front bumper? Or sides and rear as well?

overdrive
08-30-2006, 03:38 PM
Yes, the nose is made out of fiberglass. And much like most fiberglass pieces, it does not give too much and is fairly stiff. Unless I hit something rather large, I'm not worried about it cracking. I'll worry about that when/if it happens though.

My body guy said this bumper will take minimal sanding, primer, and it's ready for paint. The bumper came with all hardware. And both the bumper and screens came with installation instructions which explain removal of the front bumper aswell as the installation of the products.

As for the grill, it is made out of the same material the OEM bumper is made of and is thinner than the OEM grill. If a rock were to hit that there would be a hole the size of the rock. So, I ordered the screens to protect my baby. I havn't decided wheter I'm going to keep the screens on that came with the bumper or just use the steel screens. I think both would look cool as I'm getting them both powder coated to match the 2nd paint color. I am not really worried about air getting through with both screens, as the holes are large enough for sufficient air.

As for the RB spoiler, I think it's a fine spoiler and it would be my 2nd favorite. I chose to go with the Evo-R spoiler, and certainly don't regret it after seeing it on the car today with the different colored trunk!

I am getting very excited seeing my car so close to completion. I get it back next week, then it's time to cruise!

So, are you thinking that the grill openings on the new bumber are too big to stop debris? And you will also use the oil cooler and a/c screens behind the new grills?

It's not that the openings are too big... although that is a valid point, a small rock could get through there, didn't think of that :). But they would not hold up if a larger rock hit them as they are plastic and held on by these twist-tie like things you use to close garbage bags (the ones on the bumper are a little more heavy duty though).

And yes I'm installing both the a/c and oil cooler screens.

If you've followed th whole thread, you'd know that I went off the road and messed my car up a bit. I just got my car back to drive it home (texas) this weekend, I'm supposed to drop it back off early this week to get both bumpers, both tailights, and sideskits on. Will post a bunch of pics when that happens, as of now, the front and sides are still the same as previous pics. Refer to the earlier pics to see the difference inbetween the trunk earlier and now. It was all scratched to hell, now it's all nice and new. Except a little dusty in the pics :) ... I am aware of all the flaws, and am working to fix them. I leave for arkansas here in a few hours. Hopefully they finish my car up quickly, because I think my boss is getting tired of carting me around lol. Take it easy,
Will

EDIT- I got the RB Grills powdercoated this weekend because there was no one that did it in arkansas. It matches my roof. Can't wait till everything's finally done...

ya, i was following the whole thread. i usually try not to post anything until i've read the whole thread (if it's a small one) or a few pages of it (if it's a rather large one). I just thought that you had already finished your car. i didn't realize that you were still waiting on the tail light, and on the bumper.

if you car is still under warranty though, you can get the OEM tail light replaced at no cost. happened to my 8. i took it in, 'bout an hour later my car was back out w/the new tail lamp :).

Hehe, I figurd people woud either like it or hate it so I'm not surprised. I really like the way it came out, I think it looks better in person. At the current stage, the pictures don't give it justice. The only thing I'm on the fence about is whether the front bumper sould be 2 toned. I'm going to have RB type 2 nose, I thik it might be cool if the lower lip was dark grey. I am already painting the plastic part on the OEM rear bumper to match the trunk. So I think it would tie it all in. Or maybe I'm just going paint crazy. lol. :hahano:

I love racing beat stuff! Yes I have the racing beat spoiler, but other bodykit parts to compliment it. I really like the type 2 nose aswell. I was very tempted to buying that but at the time it hadnt been released yet. But i think its a great looking kit!

Ok, I worked today from 8am-9pm on the car with my friend. We decided we would end up with a better look and save us some trouble if we resprayed everything that the pevious body guy had done in the previous pics (all the two tone paint), because there were a bunch of minor imperfections that stood out to a trained eye. We popped out the dents out, bondo'd, and primed the quarter panel. Sanded down the hood, roof, left side of car, the MS replica side skirts, and the RB Bumper. The mazda OEM back bumper I ordered required no prep work. The RB bumper and replica side skirts were primed after sanding, then sanded again. The side skirts required another few coats of primer and will have to be sanded again (for the 3rd time) tommow. Damn visionautdynamics for wearing out my arm having sand out the little rivet on the replica side skirts by hand 3 times... lol.

The RB bumper went about 3x faster than the sideskirts, as we were able to use the orbital air sander on the whole thing. After it was sanded, the bumper was a lot smoother than I thought it would be, very slick. It went in the booth and we primed it in under 20 minutes, after that it baked for 30 minutes. Sanded once more with the orbital sander and it was ready for paint. If you yourself were to have this done at a shop, it would cost a fraction of what it would cost for a urethane bumper. Like I said earlier, the bumper took 3x less time than the replica urethan side skirts.

It is all starting to come together, today I also installed Mazda foot lamps and a HID headlight kit. Both were fairley easy to install. If you are installing the foot lamps, be aware that there are 2 blue/black wires in the connector where the directions say to tap into. Make sure you have the right one... luckily we were in a auto body shop, and they had a drawer of alligator clips so it wasn't a big deal. The hardest part on installing both the foot lamps and the HID kit were the unassembly/assembly of the car to get to the things you need to hook it up. For the HIDs, you need to take off the bumper and then the headlight unit, and for the foot lamps you have to take off the door scuff plate, the plastic around the fuse box, the footrest, and pull back the carpet. Using a wire to fish the passenger side light through the center console worked suprisingly well, just make sure to spin the light to take off the plastic casing before you fish it through.

I am tired... I will post pictures tommorow if we get it all done, we are starting early again tommorow...

Close haha... I wish I was sleeping.

We got done spraying everything around 9:30, then I got a call from work and that stopped us from assembling everything tonight. I just got home from the office (it's 12:30) and I have so much coffee in me I don't think I'll be going to bed anytime soon. We left all parts and the car to bake in the booth. Here are some pictures of the parts/car painted. The pictures do not do the paint justice, it looks 10x better than what I thought it would in person. Anyways, I'll stop yappin' and let the pictures speak for themselves:

Ok, well first the bad news:
1) My car won't start due to the engine being flooded
2) We did not finish putting everything together, so the car is still at the shop
3) The color of the bumper is off.... I could not tell by looking at it in person, but in these pictures it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Shit, I was going to list the good new but I don't really have any haha, I guess it's time for some pics now.

HIDs I installed while we were switching out the bumper:

I'm not in near as good a mood as I was last night. It looked better in the paint booth. Oh well, nothing that can't be fixed :dunno:

Yep... I just wish we would of got the color right the first time. My boss was giving me flack on the way home from the shop about not being able to drive because we have some work to do in another county. It's not like we don't have other people that can go do that work and I can do the stuff that needs to be done around here. He just needs to pull the stick out of his arse!!! Thanks for the comments chris,

Yeah, I need to change out the rest of the lights. I already changed all of the interior lights. I agree it looks funy with the HIDs though,

We are done with the car... RB type II front nose, oem back bumper, replica MS sideskirts. It looks really good. I'd give pix if it weren't being towed to the Mazda dealership (which is a hour away) to deflood the engine and do the compression testing. Will post pics in the multimedia/photo gallery section when I get it back. As for my review of the bumper:

The install of RB's bumper went very quickly, especialy when compared to the urethane sideskirts from vision autodynamics. After a quick sanding with the orbital sander, it was very smooth, and ready for primer. Only required one priming, and sanded once more after that. Then paint was sprayed. The fitment is excellent, it comes out just before the top of the sidemarkers maybe 2-3mm, but is not noticeable. There is another slight gap to the right of the left headlight looking at the front of the car, but I believe it can be fixed by loosening up the bolt behind the sidemarker, applying pressure to the left side of the bumper, and tightening the bolt... I have not had time to fix it yet. This bumper looks amazing in person. It changes the whole dimension to the front of the car, making it more agressive in a subtle way. The thing that drew me to it was that it did not poke out 5 inches on the bottom like a snow plow and the stock-looking design. People that have not seen my car before have already mistaken it for the stock bumper, and that was exactly what I wanted. For the people that saw my car before it went in the shop, the usual response is (and I qoute) "That is hot."

I am very happy with the bumper, would not change one thing, RB did a great job in the desig an manufacturing of this piece. It has made me want to order other RB products seeing the quality of this bumper and their screens.

I hope this thread helps some potential RB buyers make their decisions, they are highly recomended. Until next time,

Hopefully tommorow I will have some pics. I got it back from the dealer yesterday. We put the bumper back on tonight (they had to take it off to tow the car... I don't think it was necc., but they didn't want to mes up my new bumper haha). The rest of the night was spent washing, waxing, windexing, black magicking, and armoralling :) She's a beaut. The recall work went real smooth, they replaced the plugs, flashed the pcm, changed the oil, and filled it up with gas. I also paid to have the front rotors put on because I am lazy and hadn't put them on yet. A+ goes to Tarkington Mazda in Searcy, Arkansas... they really catered to me on the whole recall/engine flooding thing.

So... on my way to/back from work I'll stop and take some pictures by the lake!!

Goodnight,
Will
