View Full Version : Renesis motor at Mazmart
CERAMICSEAL 08-26-2003, 09:56 PM There's already an rx-8 motor at our local salvage yard!
I've been told there's even another one coming next week.
Totally cool! I'll try to post some pics when I can.
Man they keep it current over there.
Aratinga 08-26-2003, 11:06 PM I took these at the Mazda tent at the Monterey Historics. This is what's lurking under your hoods. No sign of the missing horsies, though. ;)

that circle in the last one is where the clutch engages the motor correct?

jtimbck2 08-27-2003, 10:33 AM Heh -- I read the subject line of this thread as "Renesis motor at Walmart"!
:D
Habeeb 09-09-2003, 09:13 PM They bought AcostaRacings *take out* from the 20b conversion. Bet they are going to run them on the dyno... Downing and Engman should be able to see what the numbers really are.. Word is that they are on the trail of a couple of the early wrecked 8's.
CERAMICSEAL 09-09-2003, 10:05 PM Yeah, Mr.Engman is supposedly going to dyno one of them when he has free time although I don't know if his results are for public consumption or for further development ( for Mazda)
And yes, I know I promised to produce photos. I'll get down there soon.:)
Habeeb 09-10-2003, 07:47 PM They removed the intake manifold from the motor. You can see the gear driven variable port tubes that turn inside the front and rear housings. They are of a much more advanced design than the early 13B vacuum operated ones... much more flowing or sculptured.. ..The Injectors don't protrude into the intake passages at all... the HP is definately in the intake... and that exhaust manifold with the little egr tube on the top....
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:20 PM Here are some pics as promised.:)
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:22 PM From another angle. This is the first motor they got.
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:25 PM Other odd sightings at the Mazmart.
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:31 PM The second motor in Mr.Engman's engine room.
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:34 PM Sorry about that. Here it is.
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:37 PM This one shows the intake.
CERAMICSEAL 09-17-2003, 10:40 PM The intake from another angle.
mikeb 09-18-2003, 01:53 AM cool pics
7mech 09-18-2003, 02:18 AM Cool pics man. I see those gear driven variable port sleeves you were talking about. I didn't know the motor had 3 exhaust ports. They are pretty small though and don't have alot of room for enlarging of the ports. I wonder how much room the intake ports have for being enlarged?
j-apex rx 09-18-2003, 04:30 AM thANK GOD THEY RELOCATED THE THERMOTHAT . IS NOT INSIDE THE WATERPUMP PULLEY ANYMORE.
Habeeb 09-18-2003, 10:14 PM Has anyone looked at pictures of the auto motor yet?? ..No variable gear driven hoodoo stuff.. just four port intake and three port exhaust. A great improvement over the 91 non turbo motor in HP, driveabilty, mileage.. maybe those Atlanta boys will get one soon.. that would be the motor to modify..
Habeeb 09-18-2003, 10:18 PM Well.. it's actually a four port exhaust as the center section handles exhaust from the front and rear rotor..

Huh? The thermostat has always been under the water neck going to the upper radiator hose.

Habeeb 10-21-2003, 07:36 PM I was by there today.. they picked up the wrecked 8 from the infamous Tampa test drive. I'm surprised they totalled that car, guess Mazda didn't have a supply of crash parts available. Anyway, the first guy that needs parts for a rebuild shouldn't have any trouble now. It was good to see how well it took a rear end hit. Both rear doors opened without problems. 5 miles on the clock, one man's tragedy is another man's fortune... or is that one dealer's tragedy..

actually the clutch disc is right behind that circle thing you are talking about. when you press on your clutch pedal, it pushes the clutch fork which presses on the attached throwout bearing and that bearing presses on the inside tip of those fingers pointing inward on that picture. pushing on those releases the pressure on the clutch disc and then you are in neutral. hope that makes sense.
oh, and that circle thing is called the pressure plate, it bolts onto the flywheel and the clutch disc (which attaches to the shaft of the transmission) is between the pressure plate and the flywheel.
Alessandro 10-23-2003, 05:02 PM Hmm, I already heard experimental airplane builders that was looking for an renisis. What´s the wieght of the engine, in kilos
please?
Habeeb 10-23-2003, 08:48 PM Rotary engines in aircraft have been popular for awhile... Greg took a 93 engine.. well, here's the linkhttp://216.109.117.135/search/cache?p=greg/aircraft&ei=UTF-8&url=mHKJzB7TNgcJ:www.bluemountainavionics.com/greg/aircraft.html.. hope it works..
Habeeb 10-23-2003, 08:52 PM Damn.. the link went to the new page when Greg took the rotary out for the GE jet.. sorry..
Alessandro 10-24-2003, 03:46 AM No worries, check out www.rotaryaviation.com
