gotta love the power of the internet. for those that may not be aware, autoweek is a subset of automotive news, which is the industry's premier news rag.
I love how the guy in the video is actually from the DFW area where I'm working, I didn't make that connection before.
mysql101 08-14-2006, 09:47 AM tube power rocks.
rodrigo67 08-14-2006, 09:58 AM though it will not make a huge difference in how Mazda thinks about thier customers, they will just find a more secure way to distribute it, but it does raise the awareness of RX8 owners when they run into issues that the dealers give them a hard time about repairing...
RA-Eight 08-14-2006, 09:59 AM making the headlines....bring the heat.
ZoomZoomH 08-14-2006, 10:09 AM Mulligans Unite!!
brillo 08-14-2006, 10:14 AM It will be discussed at Sevenstock for sure, we'll make sure Mazda knows how we feel. Checks and balances, it part of why the forum exists.

check your PMs.
If anyone wants the vid, pm me and I'll give you the link. Gotta go back to work, so it'll be later today. I don't want to post it here, to prevent trouble between Mazda and Rx8club.
New Yorker 08-14-2006, 05:41 PM I'm surprised it got that far.So was I… until I read the article. The main point of which is that, in a digital age—where supposedly "private" video messages can easily be swiped and circulated on the internet—an auto manufacturer—any auto manufacturer—has to be more careful about how it communicates with its dealers.
The article is NOT about blowing the lid off of how sleazy (the nerve!) Mazda is with its RX-8 customers, despite the fact that many here believe that's what the story should be. Yes, the article does explore what's going on between Mazda, its dealers, and RX-8 owners, but that's not why the story made it to Autoweek.
ZoomZoomH 08-14-2006, 05:45 PM the only 'safe' way to desseminate information like this is doing it 'off the grid', ie in-person meetings. with proper 'inside contacts,' any forms of electronic transmission (voice/data/video) can be copied and sent to unintended audiences nowadays
zoom44 08-14-2006, 07:59 PM except i still would have heard and still would have posted about it. it was several dealer folks that i have met that alerted me to it in the first place- they thought it was a bad deal and wanted me to know so i could tell you people. they can do it all one on one in the future but they will still be telling people that tell me.
otherside 08-14-2006, 08:27 PM I am not at all suprised it went this far. When I told the Mazda CARE team about it when it first happened, they were not pleased.
Easy_E1 08-14-2006, 09:13 PM I still haven't talked with my service dept. at my dealership about this "news"
I will be getting the oil changed this week and I am curious as to what they think about
all this hoopla.
Personally I don't think Mazda is going to just kick us to the curb.
I like the mention of "RX8club.com"
DarkBrew 08-14-2006, 09:21 PM The story has an ironic twist. After the broadcast, J.D. Power and Associates issued customer-satisfaction scores that showed the RX-8 was Mazda's highest-scoring model.
"Those people love their cars," says DeVaux. "The few dealers who sort of put this on the table may have been overreacting."
Ha ha ha! Mazda needs to kick some asses!
kartweb 08-14-2006, 09:34 PM The largest Mazda dealer in the DFW area has proven to be totally incompetent at RX8 service. It's not just the techs either. They did a good job at executing the sale, and I got a great price. After that things went downhill quickly. They just sent me a coupon for $7.95 off my 5000 mile service. Basicaly an oil change and a fluid inspection priced a measly $64.95. Maybe thats a bargain after the last time they changed my oil - with synthetic and 3 quarts too much. Oh yeah, they told me "Mazda is wrong about synthetic". Could be. But in 40,000 miles if the motor needs to be rebuilt due to synthetic (it won't be) guess who the dealer would bill - Mazda.
lesper4 08-14-2006, 09:44 PM wow cool the little people still have some power, Thank you Zoom, Thank you Autoweek Thank you brillo

I appreciate the compliment, but the thanks really should go to Zoom44, StealthTL, Omicron and the other Mods who work really hard behind the scenes and don't get paid at all. This board is truely a group effort.
Japan8 08-14-2006, 10:42 PM That is truly one of the things I love about this board... it is a great community.
Huhwha 08-14-2006, 10:45 PM I'm disturbed that Mazda's main response to the issue seems to be to use more secure methods of communication with their dealers. What about the real problem?
Oh well, I'm not surprised - just disturbed.
RazzyBRX-8 08-15-2006, 01:54 AM Oh man! They mentioned J.D. Power and Associates gave us surveys! I got mine today. They gave me 5 bucks for doing it.
I think it's hilarious that when it came to dealer surveys...the car got poor ratings.
But when it comes to J.D., everyone LOVES the car!
BOT: I'm glad that autoweek ran this. Maybe more RX-8 owners will try to find the video now! Too bad they didn't mention us being mulligans in the article. That would have been hilarious.
scoopman 08-15-2006, 02:35 AM Gee, I wonder who could have emailed AutoWeek's publisher... :dunno:
zoom44 08-15-2006, 11:37 AM i wonder who it was that sent them a dvd copy of the video - expo? would you know who did that?
TomAssBender 08-15-2006, 12:01 PM they can do it all one on one in the future but they will still be telling people that tell me.
that must feel nice to say.
the only thing i can say that about is my dad's surprise 60th birthday party.
lesper4 08-16-2006, 01:48 AM I appreciate the compliment, but the thanks really should go to Zoom44, StealthTL, Omicron and the other Mods who work really hard behind the scenes and don't get paid at all. This board is truely a group effort.
Yes it is a great forum and i have learned so much from it. Not too mention it gives mazda enthuesits a way to rich out and make a statement, the modserators and all the work of the above mentioned have put in to keep us up-to-date, get the facts straight and supply us with various topics.

Dealers are in business to sell cars not work on them. We should all keep it that way.
Your engine absolutely positively will not be harmed from your use of synthetics. That is a 100% certainty. It will not happen. If something does happen, someone may blame it on synthetics but they will be wrong.
