Here are some pics of my babies. The bike is a 2004 yamaha R1. I bought the bike in blue about 2 years ago and I recently decided to paint the bike black to match the 8.

R1 FACTS:
200 hp! (almost as much as the car)
First gear is sooo tall it redlines at 104mph (yup 104 in first gear)
quarter mile in 9.9sec
Top speed of 190mph (and it has no problem getting there!)
The front end is so light it will wheelie at 140mph
42 mpg

The rx8 is very dear to me but it will never compare to the sheer performance of the R1! Besides... tell me what car you can buy for under $10,000 with that much performance and still gets 42mpg? And I ride the snot out of this thing for 15,000 miles, so far... and not one mechanical problem!!

At least the 8 won't throw you 100 feet in the air if you hit a bump the wrong way going 90 on the highway.

Awesome bike though dude. I wish I could get one, but I don't have enough faith on Massachusetts drivers.

Crazy....I have the same car and same bike. It's nice isn't it? :)

Although I do have to say that unless you have a power commander the bike stops at 186. The factory set it that way. But 186 is still plenty fast....I always like the way the windscreen pushes flat against your nose at those speeds.

Happy riding and be safe.

Stupid people crash bikes just like stupid people crash cars, I never met an experienced rider who hit a bump the wrong way and went 100 ft up? When I drive I am multitasking radio, cell, climate control, etc. when I ride I am focused. I can antisapate possible danger before I encounter it (like bumps in the road)

My point was a bike crash is usually more damaging to the driver than a car crash and no matter how skilled, experienced, and focused you are when riding, you can never anticipate the careless drivers. I was just exagerating with the 100 feet comment. Anyways, have fun with the bike and ride safe. I wish my 8 cost under 10k and got 42 mpg...

Not really, Performance is measured in Power:weight, take the lotus for example, its a fast car because it is so light.. this is a comparison of machine to machine. I was into cars way before I ever bought a bike, I became obsessed with a cars performance and was spending lots of cash. I found myself stripping my honda to the bare minimum, and still wanting more. The R1 is the purest form of performance its an engine with wheels on it! :spank:

Dont think that you are safe just because you are in a car... I work in a bodyshop and see some scary stuff. on the bike you might be ejected but in a car you will be violently shaken like a ball in a can of spray paint! And yes you can anticipate careless drivers because I treat every driver the same. as if they are all careless idiots and avoid them!

Okay-- How heavy is an R1 versus a 3k pound car? Is that really a fair comparison? I'm saying performance wise---you can't compare the R1 to the 8. You said it yourself, where can you get a car under 10k with as much performance as the R1 and still get 40+ mpg, answer = you can't-- bikes are a different beast. Enjoy the rides homie !

um, so you're focused on the bike, and maybe a good driver while on it. And those other things that you're doing while in the car make you what kind of driver . . . ?

Your right the R1 should be compared to a ferrari but it costs a tenth of the price!!

I would rather be shaken violently than ejected.

nice bike, but no point in comparing...

no point in arguing about it either.

2 wheels vs 4 wheels., the only comparison is MPG, and the bike wins. Next?

in our case the bike and almost everything else on the road, so what?

VERY nice pair painter. Got a silver/black Fireblade and silver R1150R to go with my silver 8....I guess I like silver.

Funny how car guys react to bikes eh? Either they'll give you the "I'm smarter than you so I won't ride 'cause of all the idiots out there" speech or "ya can't compare bikes to cars!"

I totally agree, 9291150.. The funny thing is that I was a car guy before I was a bike guy and I used to use that excuse all the time. I would tell people "oh I am so crazy in my car that I would just die on a bike". When in reality I didnt know anything about riding. It really is hard to understand unless your a rider.

I'm not sure what I started as, car or bike guy, I just always loved both...still love bikes more though.

I'm glad I didn't get a bike in my teens - wasn't allowed - but the skillset of anticipating driver stupidity comes with years of driving experience. So our order of car first bike later was the right one.
