fishing line, with a little coat of wax on it, and then i used bug/tar remover to remove the gummy/sticky residue.

it was the only way i could place the emblem and cover up the 3 odd holes.

I see. So you were able to attach the RX-8 emblem just like that, or did you use something sticky? Yea, stupid question.

no i had an extra emblem in the glove box when i bought the car. :) thought i would use it.

Bug and Tar removal was made for cars, so i know that's ok. but be careful with GOO-GONe, i heard that can eat away at the clear coat.

Yes, That's great. The mazda label is the same on every Mazda model, so thats not for me.
My first idea was the same as yours, but I did this (pic), instead of that.

I shaved the pins on the front emblem and using moulding tape before reapplying it. Wanted to have the option of taking it off without filling holes.

Chassis code for the RX-8. If you look at some of the online part shops that list the RX-8 you will usually see in parenthises (SE3P).

why move badges around, put the rx8 badge on the mazda logo?

I like it better this way even though it is a little closer to the left side than I would have liked but being the holes were where they were my options were limited. Yes my car needs washed.
