View Full Version : RX8 Commercial on SPEED
DRKSYDE 08-05-2006, 01:28 PM Saw the RX8 "Like It" "Love It" "Gotta Have It" "And Still 3 Gears To Go" Commercial a minute ago while watching the Barber Grand Am race on SPEED.
Funny thing is...
I didn't see an RX8 commercial during the MAZDA STAR SERIES race right before the Grand Am one...
MAZDA STAR SERIES... hmm sounds familiar. OH YEAH! Thats the race series where ALL the cars have the Renesis 1.3L Rotary Engine like an RX8! :ylsuper:
LOL you would think they would have had one of those commercials during that race too. :mdrmed:
BunnyGirl 08-05-2006, 01:29 PM I know the guy that owns one of the teams in Star Mazda (owns a local body shop). His son is one of the drivers.
DRKSYDE 08-05-2006, 01:34 PM Sweet! Hope his car wasn't one of the 5 or 6 cars that were knocked out of the race in the FIRST turn of the race!

BunnyGirl 08-05-2006, 03:01 PM Ryan Justice Captures Pole Position for Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres
August 5, 2006. Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Driving his #38 Northwest Autosport Mazda under sunny skies and perfect temperatures, Ryan Justice, of Portland, Oregon, clocked a time of 1:02.106 (86.948 MPH) in the final seconds of qualifying to capture the pole position for the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres and Round Eight of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Matt Varsha, driving the #45 Racers Edge Motorsports Mazda, will line up second on the grid with a time of 1:02.216 (86.794 MPH), while Logan Gomez, in the #23 Velocity Motorsports Mazda will line up third on the grid with a time of 1:02.266 (86.725 MPH).
That would be him. His car is also in the 2006 RX-8 brochure.

HELLZ YEAH!
musclecarconvrt 08-07-2006, 09:12 PM After 2 years, I've gotta say I still love my RX8. I was getting frustrated into thinking though that I wouldn't get to see another RX8 commercial. Gald to see some kind of ad for our rides.
dynamho 08-14-2006, 12:01 PM FYI: You can watch the commercials here in Mazda's Australian site:

Easy_E1 08-15-2006, 10:23 PM That's one thing I have noticed is Mazda's lack of advertising.
Though tonight I have seen the CX-7 commercial at least three times.
But they don't seem to advertise the RX-8 at all any more.
One of those things that make you go HMMM.
abbid 08-15-2006, 10:26 PM I just got PC magazine with an RX8 ad on the back cover..
Raptor2k 08-15-2006, 11:19 PM ^no Wai!
musclecarconvrt 08-16-2006, 09:01 AM I've been really anoid at the lack of advertising too Easy_E1. I love my car and tell everyone who asks how great it is, but I guess Mazda is just relying on word of mouth.
ArthurY 08-25-2006, 12:08 PM I see a full-page RX-8 ad on almost every issue of MotorTrend.
musclecarconvrt 08-25-2006, 03:27 PM Yeah, but I want everybody to know how great our car is. We are going to get jazzed about an ad for a new car in Motor Trend or a commercial on Speed, but Joe Blow who only ever watched the boob tube is only going to hear about a recall. They will see Zoom Zoom commercials for the 3, the 6, and the new CX7, but what of their flagship sports car? Unless you are an enthusiast you wont see ads for our car. Chevy runs the Corvette on prime time. Ford has a commercial of the Mustang doing a father-son burnout in a parking lot. Dodge shows the Charger. Subaru quotes the 0-60 times in their commercials. I'm sick of Sion commercials. What of our 8. Only on the Speed channel. I just don't get why Mazda doesn't advertise one of it's best cars more.
New Yorker 08-25-2006, 07:12 PM Yes, but just think at how much more amazed people are when they see your car—the first 8 they've ever seen—in person! :)
musclecarconvrt 08-25-2006, 11:00 PM True, I do like it when people wrench their heads around to look at my car. There are not very many RX8s here in middle Tennessee. I can go for days without seeing another.

It does seem odd. There'll be an ad where they'll go nuts over a couple of the other Mazda models -- "zoom zoom" and all that. And if you blink you'll miss the part where they basically say "yeah and over there in the corner is the RX-8". wtf?
DRKSYDE 08-27-2006, 09:10 AM Truth of the matter is... RX8 is their "flagship" sports car. In reality their only sports car. The MX5 is a roadster.
The RX8 was not ever expected to be the huge seller. I don't have the exact sales numbers since the car was released in the US but I bet it's only around 10- 13K units.
Mazda WISELY spends the money on the cars that they need to sell well to keep the corporation afloat. MPV, the 6, the 3 series... THOSE cars are the bread and butter of the company. While I am sure Mazda loves the lil rotary powered 8 as much as we do, the reality is they need to sell the other cars to make the profits they need.
Take the Corvette. It really falls under the same catagory as the RX8 as far as advertising standards are concerned. However GM has a MUCH larger advertising budget and can afford to advertise the Corvette more.
Like it or not its all a function of marketing dynamics.
RX8PDX 08-28-2006, 12:08 AM I dont mind so much, most people hate commercials anyways, and use that time to get another beer, or get rid of the previous one.
There isnt a day that goes by, that I dont get someone tell me "thats a sweet car", "What is that? that freakin awsome".
I really think thats better advertising than anything.
My neighbors mother came to visit, and she liked my car so much, she bought one herself.
