Had some heat in the northeast temp 100 heat index 110 the rx8 motor sounded like the loose rockers of old in the G.M. 350 motor Tap Tap Tap...go the lifters. Went to the dealer put the 8 on scan tool and they got a code. Unknown code but the noise is from a defective valve solenoid part #(z or 2 s04-18-741a) but service said don't worry you can still drive the car. Just keeping the forum advised...

 

That's dealer speak for "we hope your warranty ends before your car catches fire and explodes"

 

APV solenoid- your APV is reporting stuck open. likely carbon build up.

2004 30k 6spd manual pushed the car hard reved to 8 on all three days of heat wave car didn't expode just one piece defective not too bad I LIKE THIS CAR.
