Hey fellow RX8 owners. I recently *4 months ago) got an RX8 as a birthday present from my dad, and i cant drive it on the roads because i am 16. I will be 17 in march, so currently i drive my RX8 on the land around our house, and the drive way lol, and its not illegal because its private land. So anyway i cant wait till im 17 lol. I will post a picture of it later or 2moz, its yellow, and has sat nav, phone system (6310I) TV/ DVD + a BOSE sound system, and adaptive BI-Xenons (they swivvle left/right when you turn the wheel). My dad imported this so he paid a fraction of the dealer prices.

They are not options in the UK, and it has them because it was imported from Japan / or the far east. I will get the website of the importer later for you. But the swivvel lights are just "xenon headlamps ... Bi-Xenons" but they are 'adaptive' so they move around corners n stuff .

And ty guys for the welcome, and btw this was like a 1 off present, i dont get new cars for my birtday or anything :)

Bi-Xenons are different than "just" Xenon. Adaptive? Are you sure about that? Maybe adaptive, up and down, based on position of the rear end, but I'm not sure they swivel side to side. Maybe you got confused reading the handbook for a BMW. Or maybe I'm just not JDM enough to know the offerings in the other market.

I remember my first car was a 1992 3000GT VR-4... I wrecked it like 2 months later even with AWD... I slid right off the road going like 60 mph in a turn, totaled it. So all I can say is take a driving lesson before you start tearing it up.. and make sure you have good insurance.. lol.

Aipex8
08-02-2006, 11:51 AM
bi-xenon is a xenon projector headlight that can be used as both low beam and hi beam by changing the optics inside the projector. There are also projector headlights that swivel when the wheel is turned. Two completely different things. These are options on high end cars, and neither is available on the RX-8 even in the Japanese market, unless it's some secret that they don't put on any options websites. I imagine you are talking about the autoleveling feature that the xenon headlights in the RX-8 has.

Ha, this thread has everything - a lucky kid, a few people angry at the boy for being lucky, a youg buck with serious emotional problems, a Napoleon Dynamie quote, adaptive bi-xenon headlighs (actually quite helpful when navigating around the landscaping at dusk) and a little bit of JDM mixed in for good measure. Somehow, someway, somebody needs to throw in a comment about a certain Chrysler.

Well -- I will say congrats, but also your spoiled.

It's a simple fact that when you just hand someone something badass they will never treat it the same way as if they earned it themselves.

I never even had a car till I was 19... and the only reason I got it (2nd hand hand-me-down) 98 Saturn econobox... was beacuse I needed it for college when i tranferred up to the main A&M campus.

Getting handed the keys to an RX8 when you are 16 is stupid, most people will agree with me that every young person on the road should start out with a simple/cheap/non-powerful car. No matter how careful you are no matter what you do, you WILL fuck it up, just like if i decide to get a sport bike, im not going to pick out some powerful race bike if I can afford it due to the fact I KNOW im going to lay it down at some point.

Mommy and daddy didnt buy my 8 for me... im 24 years old and have worked my ass off to pay it off. No help with downpayments, maintainence, ANYTHING. Don't be too sad when you fuck up on something and they take away the keys to your 8. hah

The only thing worse then parents buying their 16 year old spoiled kid a car like this (or anything equal or above) is the fact that AFTER The kid goes and wrecks it, they just say "oh well and go buy their kid another one".

Enjoy it man, 99% of us didn't have it that good and actually worked for our shit.

its amazing how rude everyone can be just because a 16 year old has an rx8. you dont have to be in your 20's 30's or 40's to drive one. keep the rude somments to yourself, and let him enjoy his car, and ability to use the knowledge of others on this forum just like the rest of us.

HA, who cares if he gets an rx8, its a freakin car. just cuz some didn't get a nice car at 16 doesn't mean he get. ITS A CAR PEOPLE, hell you should read the vette forums, quite alot of 19 year olds have Z06's and the older crew doesn't care what so ever.

Congrats on the ride UK dude. don't do anything dumb, well you probably will (part of learning to drive is 'close calls'), but don't kill yourself.

Just because we are young does NOT mean we have no driving skill whatsoever.

While the comment about the "rare yellow rx8 in pieces" was surely based on the author's experience and is backed by statistics, your vengeful outburst interjected with childish insults only serves to expose your immaturity and inability to express your opinions in an adult like fashion.

The truth of the matter is....

"Statistics show that younger people are more likely to be in a speed-related crash in a sports car or performance sedan. Chalk it up to peer pressure, the sound and feel of these cars and marketing. The same holds true for convertibles."
Source: http://www.autoextra.com/firstride/do-tips

While it is also noted that youths who purchase their own cars are less likely to wreck them, they are still significantly more likely to wreck than an adult driver. Sporty cars increase the odds even more so.

Call me (or anyone else) whatever name you so desire. It won't change the facts.

And yes i use the sat nav in my drive way lol, and no my dad doesnt want to adopt anyone. Excuse the "outburst" but this subject is getting increasingly annoying to me!

It seems almost daily now that a kid comes on here, explains how his parents bought him a car, and everyone bashes him/her saying they will wreck it.

Seriously, it needs to stop. Just because people are young doesn't mean they are completely ignorant to the rules of the road...

I am 16. I drive average. I don't ignore stop signs, red lights, speed thru yellows, I use my turn signal even when I probably don't have to, and I am courteous to everyone else on the road.

Facts aside, this subject really pisses me off.

I have a radar detector simply because I have a problem maintaining speed. I use cruise control whenever possible, but, in the city thats a bit hard to do. If I am at the speed limit, a couple of seconds later I find myself 5-15 over it, without even knowing it. The car rides too smooth :\

But I'll respond to this one since you actually made a little sense there.

It's easy to see why my remark would easily strike a nerve, but I know what I'm talking about. Buying a teenage novice driver a brand new (and beautiful looking) sports car is just an all around dumb fucking idea. Sure there are always exceptions and hopefully you will be one of them, but you sure as hell won't see me holding my breath here.

They lack real world driving experience what with their young age and immaturity. They're easily prone to aggression and are constantly seeking thrills. They overreact to stupid bullshit. They misinterpret things because they just don't know any better. Worst of all they underestimate the consequences of their actions because they've barely lived through any, and are at times care free since they have parents that wipe their asses for them.

Now you're going to take all of that shit and stick it in the driver's seat of a sports car? That's just another young "bad ass mother fucker" I want to steer clear of on the road...especially while I'm watching TV in my car at the same damn time.

Like I said before..I look down and find myself going faster then I was seconds before. I can't explain it, but, meh, it happens.

And uh..to Jerky RX8 Owner. I fully agree that parents should NOT buy their young (new) drivers a sports car. I also think that a parent should never buy their child a car period, but, meh..

I know where your coming from with your comments, but, its still sad that young drivers have to be categorized into a group of bad drivers. This is exactly why insurance is higher for males vs. females! :nono:

funny how i been driving 14 years and only been in 3 accidents.....each time t-boned by some one under the age of 18 either running a light or stop sign......none of the accidents were deemed my fault......but kids drive great!

honestly im going to have to agree with most of the ppl so far, young age/immature driving is prone to either accidents or just tearing up the car. and btw not trying to be mean but at almost 16 you havent had much of a chance to mature. your not used to driving conditions yet or how to react with the car in certain situations. i think most all of us can look back to the first car we started to mod and think of all the short cuts or unnessisary things we did. so the stereotype of wrecking the car does apply to most ppl if a sports car is their first. my suggestion is to take it easy learn the car, seriously consider taking a road course class that teaches you how to handle the car. other than that congrats hope you enjoy it. :biggthump

With you completely on that, especially on the driving class thing. I took one, got to drive a high-end RWD BMW, I learned things I would've NEVER expected at that school. Just how good ABS can be, and when it lets loose...

And uh..to Jerky RX8 Owner. I fully agree that parents should NOT buy their young (new) drivers a sports car. I also think that a parent should never buy their child a car period, but, meh..

Depends on the situation. If you are financially secure, your child is GOOD, respectful, trustworthy, and responsible, then why not buy them a car? I fully agree that SOME children should not just be given a car because they would not understand be thankful or deserving enough to get it.

There are adults that drive like idiots too :)

My friend had been t-boned twice BEFORE he was 18, once buy a 30 some year old guy looking for the chicken he "dropped" on the floor and ran a stop sign, other time by a 70 year old guy that claimed the light was still green.

I was side-swiped by a 40 some year old guy in a giant truck that said he couldn't see me... in my SUV...

Bad driving isn't necessarily correlated with age. Yes younger drivers are worse at driving because they have less experience. But there are BAD drivers that remain bad drivers their entire life. This is usually because they are morons.

Yah I know, and I agree with you that most teenage males with a "sporty" car are idiots. I had friends with turbo eclipses that were not very smart, it happens. I just wanted to point out that there are a lot of crappy adult drivers too :p:

ok quick question why is this still in the multimedia section????

now for my two cents

to me it seems like u came here to show off...all the things you have before even being able to drive it and best of all you didnt pay for it. now you say you worked hard for all you "shit" hmmm at 16 idk what could be so hard, go to school come home and play some video games..im guessing on you 80" plasma home theater. that about somes it up. when i was sixteen i had a grand am gt...bullshit to all of thos that say you wont speed especially in an 8. i know if i had the same car back then god knows what would have happened to me. lucky for me i never got into an accident (knock on wood) there were a few clos calls altho. and for the guy who cant explain why he goes over the speed limit let me break it down for ya...ITS CALLED SPEEDING simple. im 20 now and keep my baby safe since im paying for it.

that is all make this thread intresting and post some pics of it aleast..your daddy got u a camera right????

Excuse you, BASTARD. I take SERIOUS offense to comments like this. I am 16, a fairly new driver (6 months) and I just purchased an RX-8. Try to AVOID confusing retards and drivers! Just because we are young does NOT mean we have no driving skill whatsoever.

Fucking idiot..

And no, my mommy and daddy didn't buy it for me. I work for my shit. I hope yours ends up in peices just for being an asshole.

Yea! He's been driving for 6 months, so he obviously hasn't crashed the car and wont because 6 months is like an eternity!

P.S What job at 16 affords 30k per year, and a credit rating able to afford a car like this? Are you sure it's not your parents name on the paperwork? Next time you think your parents didn't help you buy this car, think again.

Btw, the good thing about being a young driver and having prejudiced comments directed your way is that in a few years you won't be categorized as a young driver anymore! So just suck it up, and in a few years look back like the rest of us have and decide that you are now a more responsible adult driver than when you were younger.

When i was 16, my ride was called "mom" (no... not like that you sick fucks)

 That was my ride up until I got Bella finally, at 25.

That almost seems embarrassing that I didn't get my license or my first car until I was 25. Oh well. I'm happy now and I figure by waiting this long to finally get a car and working I would be able to afford something decent, so I didn't care too much that my mom had to drive me everywhere.

Edit: I have been driving since I was 18. I just never got my license because I didn't have my own car, so there didn't seem like much point.

Sigh. Your mommy and daddy own it. Whose name is on the title of the vehicle and the registration/insurance?

Yep! A 16-year-old can't legally enter into a contract.

I got a scratch-off lottery ticket in a card when I was 16 and got to drive my dad's Ford Tempo. Lucky bastard.

And I have to agree w/ Shakrpah, Mutimedia section?

when I was 16 I bought a $1,100 Cavalier Z24 and had to put another 500 into when i got it on the road to run... two years later I got a FC3S for $2,200 (now hooked to rotarys), A year later sold the cavalier to buy a 95 Cherokee winter car.... 1 year later got a job working 40 hours a week, and bought a $24,000 RX-8 All on my own. My car payment is 1/4 of my monthly pay so it sucks but love the car. I know so many 16-17 year olds with brand new cars and totaled them one being a Cobalt SS. Point of the story, be safe, don't get peer pressured into doing stupid stuff...and you should be fine.
