Having spoken with RP, their clamp they are working on is not the top of the list on priorities, so most likely, it will not have a hanger, or a clamp at this time.

These are the newest batches, but the hanger was not welded on. If I am correct the mesh was opened a bit more for even more breathability.

this answers both of your questions...

I called RP and they said that as long as the aftermarket exhaust bolts up fine to the OEM cat pipe, then there should be no issues at all, as the fitments are designed to be the same as the OEM pipe.

What I meant about “CAD” speaking with the HKS question is that most all manufactures exhaust come with the mid-pipe and it is design to marry up to the OEM TWC/Three-Way Catalyst or “Cat-Pipe”. So in the broadest terms… it stands to reason that the answer is yes. By nature if your exhaust mated up with the OEM TWC than you should have no issues with RP’s Sup-Cat. Chris did mention some people noted a clearance issue, but he said he would provide a visual fix incase anyone ran into it for some reason.

I understand that they do Custom Fabrication in shop so I would guess for a few extra bucks the answer is probably yes. I would think this goes for the Clamp/Hanger too. Chris noted that it was not guaranteed to be on the GB Sup-Cats but if you must have one I am sure you can request to pay and have it included. Also, most all muffler shops around the world can do this for you after the fact for near nothing in cost too.

Please do not hold me to this, but if I recall it is claimed to be about an 8-12 HP gain. Not a whole helluva lot, but most honest manufacturers will tell you that Mazda Engineering on this motor and car had already damn near squeezed every last drop of performance they could without going Turbo or Supercharged.

I thought I read some where that it cost someone $65-70 to have a hanger removed from the oem cat and then welded onto the new cat. Am I mistaken with that comment? That would neglect any savings, correct?

I was on the original list that was interested and still am but I'm just wondering if this is just getting rushed for the sake of rushing it. When it might be better to wait until this piece has everything that it plans on having in the future.

The hanger/clamp is not necessary. Only some people have reported an issue with the lack of hanger, and those that have gotten one put on, said that places like Meineke will do it for about $10 (may have to shop around a little, but it's not a big price). Also, as was noted in the original post, there will be included instructions that will also assist in preventing any scraping issues.

Here are some Answers to past questions...

1.) Does this cat have a heat shield?
Yes it does have a heat shield on top. The picture on the website is not current. I have seen quite a few pictures of it on the forum. If a good, clear and current picture is needed, it can be provided.

2.) Is this the New Higher-flowing more opened mesh version you all were working on?
This is the newer, freer flowing unit (not that the old one was an issue). The active metals content is even higher than before (platinum, palladium and rhodium)

3.) Can buyers opt to have the Hanger or resonators added to their cat prior to shipping?
a.) Do you have a flat rate for Hanger Service?
As of now, we do not have a shippable hanger solution. We will, but not right now. It is a bolt on hanger and can be added in the future. The subframe realignment has been effective in avoiding pipe to brace interference.
b.) Do you have a flat rate for Resonator Service?
We do have a stainless resonator that can be added, if desired. It is the same unit we use on the midpipe. This adds $80 to the total and is not a normally stocked item, but would not be an issue to produce.

4.) What are your rough claims of HP gains with this current Cat?
HP has been tested many times. We've seen as much as 15HP improvement and as little as 9HP. About 12HP is what we tell everyone is realistic.

5.) Will you all accept PayPal payments too?

I am pretty sure 2 weeks from now they will honor the price if they see your screen name was on the list prior to the GB ending... if it has ended by that time. When I contacted RP I suggested a minimum of 20 to make it viable for them. When Chris got back to me it was clean and simple... $45 off + shipping. IF in the next few days or so we double that number I may try to negotiate a few beans more off. This would mean that everyone would have to wait a bit longer to have the strength to suggest it. I have mentioned in the past that with these GB's it is not uncommon for about 20% to never follow-through for whatever reason. The AFE Short Shifter GB proved me wrong by a long shot, but we need to make sure that we as the group purchase at least the minimum we promise to. My bargaining powers are only as strong as our groups purchasing abilities and follow-through.
Basically, it is all of us that make these GB's work... NOT ME!!!

2.) I was questioned if the cat had any known failure issues being used in conjunction with a Turbo Set-up. The concern is a deteriorating cat membrane w/ the turbo or the heat just melting it shut. I am asking you, the pros, if you know of any issues?
We have had two failures with the turbo systems. Both were attributed to damage from running the air:fuel ratio too rich. Any converter can get killed by overheating when too rich.

3.) Have you all givin any thought to a Maximum number of units to be sold or a cut-off date to participate in the Group Buy? So far we are at 20 buyers. I will wait till Friday or Monday to start having them make payments to ya.
The maximum I have parts to fill orders is about 50 units. I'd say we make the max at 40 to be safe. 20 units is fine, but I agree that lets wait until Monday to take payment and fill orders.
Based on this information, unless we have a winfal of more orders in the next few days, I am not sure RP will discount the price any further. If we do fill the list up though, I will at least ask.

It is the newer more open Cat with the Gasket and Bolt kit included. Hangers are not included. It has been noted that they are not needed by RP. They will send a visual workaround reference if by chance you do have an interference issue.

Does anyone know if there is a DYI for installing the supercat? I would like to give it a shot myself but would feel better if there is a good guide with pics.
RP said they would be sending a visual set that shows how to adjust for clearance.
Removal and installation is pretty simple for the Cat. I went ahead and created a very generic visual for ya. I am sure others will want to right a book on it, but I am a bit too lazy to detail every little trick and method. It is as simple as it looks though.

it really is quite simple to do... it is 5 bolts... the hardest thing to the job is compressing the springs on the rear fitting..

jackstands. 4 are required.... my header bolts came of with a 12" ratchet and no oil.... this was at 30k miles...

HP has been tested many times. We've seen as much as 15HP improvement and as little as 9HP. About 12HP is what we tell everyone is realistic.

According to RP, it is a rare occurance. So now that you expressed a concern... you will probably be one of those builds that need the tweak! LOL.
The adjustment probably is not as complicated as it sounds though.

I'm just curious, but isn't this kinda low? I thought people are on average seeing 180+ on the dyno bone stock? The baseline was ~175hp with a catback already installed...

OK... So this is not for you then! It is very rare I get annoyed with people in the Group Buy threads , but you are just being a dick IMO. RP is a very reputable company and very well known in the 7 community. They have not made false claims in the past and it is not likely they would now. I am not a representative of RP or a sales person. Members and 8 owners that desired the Cat asked that I work a group-buy. We did and this is the offer. Let us say it only makes the car sound throatier and gains no HP. Does that make you feel better? Good... now you can go and piss on someone else’s fire.
If you want Major HP gains let me guide you... 20B, 26B, Turbo or SuperCharger. Intakes, Headers, Cats, Exhausts, etc... on the 8 will not make super HP like they do on a Mustang.
Just go to Ebay and by that little fuel saver 20HP gaining chip they sell there man. For Christ’s-sake.. why do you feel the need to hi-jack this thread? Move along... nothing for you to see here.

Here are some Answers to past questions...

1.) Does this cat have a heat shield?
Yes it does have a heat shield on top. The picture on the website is not current. I have seen quite a few pictures of it on the forum. If a good, clear and current picture is needed, it can be provided.

2.) Is this the New Higher-flowing more opened mesh version you all were working on?
This is the newer, freer flowing unit (not that the old one was an issue). The active metals content is even higher than before (platinum, palladium and rhodium)

3.) Can buyers opt to have the Hanger or resonators added to their cat prior to shipping?
a.) Do you have a flat rate for Hanger Service?
As of now, we do not have a shippable hanger solution. We will, but not right now. It is a bolt on hanger and can be added in the future. The subframe realignment has been effective in avoiding pipe to brace interference.
b.) Do you have a flat rate for Resonator Service?
We do have a stainless resonator that can be added, if desired. It is the same unit we use on the midpipe. This adds $80 to the total and is not a normally stocked item, but would not be an issue to produce.

I just got off the Phone with Mary and we are almost there... It does look like Friday they will begin to ship. I did not get an exact count but it sounded like 1-3 more and we hit minimum quota.

Maybe they could include a couple sales from outside the group buy, consider them part of the group buy, charge them the regular price, and get those that have paid shipped. Then when the others in the group buy get around to paying they can have theirs shipped then, or in the next 20 group ship package. Just a suggestion. ;)

Why be such an apologist for RP? They tell you that it gains 12 HP on average ("as low as 9 and as high as 15") but the only dyno they can post gains 8.7 when paired with a specfic exhaust system. Why do you believe it ever makes 15 when they can't even show you an average gain dyno?

I'm just cynical about HP gain claims, and so far, there's nothing to back up the top end of their claims. In my book, you post the best honest dyno you ever got from your product, so my assumption is that 8.7 is the highest they have ever seen.

I'm not on the GB list nad never have been, so I'm not holding up anything. I'd be interested in one, but only if it gains me some HP with an otherwise stock exhasut system. I don't see any proof of that, so I'm not joining until then.

Maybe it's not for me and that's fine. I was just trying to figure out what it would do for me. I wasn't hijacking- if it made 12 HP on a stock car, I have $400 right here for one, but I ain't paying $400 for sound.

I spoke with Mary today from rx7.com today because I was considering a local pickup (since i have to pay TX taxes). She said that they arent done manufacturing the group of cats yet... she said some time next week they'll be ready. I wanted to drop in this weekend =/...

They told me over the phone that they have about 10 or so made already. And once they get all 20 orders in then they will ship out the 10 they have in order of when they were received. So they first 10 of you will be getting them shortly I think...

It's not really your post, it is the combination of everyone saying something a little different, and then in the end if something gets messed up it'll turn out to be well this person on the forum said this and that but no one is hearing from the source. I just have my fingers crossed that they actually did ship today.

of course if you did wanna know yourself you can call and ask the status of the orders. with that, you can post it up here for people to take or leave, but at least in the end you'll know for yourself from the source

I did a search of this thread for the actual weight of the RP supercat compared to stock. Does anyone know what the weight savings will be with the RP unit?

i believe this piece is 11lbs, compared to stock which is 23.2lbs according to the weight of stock parts sticky in the tech section

Yeah, im getting that feeling too, after talking to RP yesterday. Every time i call its a different ship date. They told me yesterday that they might start to ship them at the end of this week or even first of next week. But they do have my (and yours) money already. Its goinjg on 3 weeks since i paid before they might ship it, and thats not a definite. Its not like they didnt know a group buy was coming!!

i recall them telling me after i paid the very first monday that they expected to ship that coming friday.. i guess they changed their minds :(

Some guy on here had a regular order for this HFC since June and decided to cancel his order a couple of weeks ago. I was suspiciouse that if 1 order takes months how is this group of orders going to get fullfilled. This is the reason I didn't get in on this group buy.

ok i called them for a status update...

They said that the first 6 cats have shipped out and that the next 10 should be going out this Friday. I am number 14 on the list and hopefuly I will be getting it soon...They were having supply chain issues for one of the components on the HF cat. They also informed me that there was a large international order that had to go out before ours did.

should be any day now...
