Unfortunately, I don't have a means of doing so.

With the stock exhaust, it sounds nice and my butt dyno says there's definitely more horses available now.

I actually thought it was going to be louder than it is, but it's actually pretty tame unless you're steppin on it. Makes it a bit throatier at idle and you definitely hear and feel it come to life as you get into the powerband. My butt dyno will have to agree with their posted dyno on the fact that most of the gains seem to come around the 5k+ level, but unless you're cruisin, who likes their 8 to be below that anyways? :rofl:

Sadly, no. While their solution is going to be some form of clamp, so I am told, it is not available at this time.

So, if your pipe clanks once it gets warm, you've got three options...
1) Raise the transmission (4 bolts, this is the method mentioned in the first post)
2) Remove the rear cross brace (this is what it bangs against, and to quote "over engineering on Mazda's part")
3) Get somebody to weld a hanger on.

You have a higher possibility if you get a mid pipe.

Has anyone installed it themselves yet? I tried putting mine on the other day and we couldn't bust the bolts loose, and did your o2 sensor come out ok and was it reusable?

i installed mine myself. for the front 3 nuts dont bust the bolts, break the nuts instead. for the rear break the rear nuts that are on the springs. my o2 was easy. also rp doesnt include both gaskets, u gotta reuse the rear one.

^I think you should use only one gasket...did you find 2 gaskets?? strange...

There is a flange gasket on the rear connection of the stock cat. You will need to remove that (use a puddy knife or something similar as to not break it). The gasket with the RP kit is for the front connection. As for stuck bolts, WD40 or liquid wrench on them for a little bit should help. I did the install with minimal assistance required with the car only up on ramps.

As for a review... I love it. It's a little raspy when it's cold, but once it warms up, it sounds great. It's a little throatier at idle, and gets a bit louder at WOT, but nothing that's going to offend anyone, and there is no noticed drone in the cabin (mine is with stock exhaust).

alright, if you dont want to use 2 gaskets you'll have an exhaust leak... the gasket kit came with 1 gasket for the front end of the pipe, and you reuse the stock donut for the rear end of the pipe..

ok maybe its my fault....i will check again the gaskets..because in the installation guide....i saw only one gasket....except the exchaust leak...my rp is extemely sound!!....if i will put the two gaskets normally the noise calm down...

I am extremely dissapointed, without the hanger the pipe clanks at idle, it sounds ricier than any Civic I have ever heard, and the drone is unbearable, I have to drive it at 2500 rpms and it still sounds like ass. Maybe if there were a hanger with it it would be ok, but there isn't, and there probably won't be any time soon.

The hanger would stop the clanking, maybe I wasn't too specific on that one.

perhaps you didnt install it correctly? mine pretty much sounds stock. no one but except for me can tell that its a tiny bit louder...

Maybe you got a midpipe and not a HF cat?

If it sounds raspy, it could also be a leak, or that it's cold (the pipe that is, not the outside temp).

when i first started up the car, it sounded kind of like how you described it, very loud. there was an exhaust leak. i forgot to put on the rear gasket, which comes off of your stock cat.

How long do these cat last? The installer guy at the muffler shop I would not last too long before the cat melts and Check engine lights come on. Sorry if it's a repeat question.

well it took me a little bit more than an hour to install (part of an afternoon:Eyecrazy: ). I did use some liquid wrench on some of the bolts and after i started it the first time, i had smoke coming from the tail pipes and from the engine bay. Now it's smoke free and running like a charm...

I took my car to the dealership yesterday for the engine recall and they didnt say anything about the RP supercat. They just asked me why installed a new one....my car passed with no problems...they just replaced some spark plugs and reflashed it.

After talking to a Chris at RP, all confidence is back! Although I had a little tough time finding a muffler shop to install it for me (since I'm in CA and they are worried about liability and legal issues), I am now a happy camper! With the RB exhaust, I can barely tell the difference in sound, that is until it's full throttled. Due to the linear power curve, there wasn't a big difference in feel, but I noticed the the RPM and speed got up much quicker than before! And the bonus was after test run on the highway, I pulled into a parking lot, and I was able to shoot 3 inch flames a few times...

I did get one thing that worried me though....after getting on it pretty hard for a few minutes, the CEL came on blinking a couple of times before going away. Is this anything to be concerned about? Any advice would help. Thanks.

Ummmm...shooting flames? I don't like the sound of that. It's not a straight race pipe (which would be normal) - there's a cat in there. Sounds like the cat got torched a bit.

I'm no expert but that just doesn't sound good to me.

shooting flames is normal. mazda tuned the rx-8 to dump fuel into the exhaust to cool down the cat. if your exhaust is hot enough, unburned fuel that hits it will catch fire and when it has enough air and blow flames out the exhaust.

Uh oh.....did I do something wrong? Does the CEL I got for a few seconds have anything to do with the flames? I've read others on this forum got flames out with just a Borla exhaust and no other mods. Is this something I need to prevent?

Thats happened to me before too, I think its just a coincidence that it happened when you put the cat on. It more than likely is just a random misfire and if it were something to be concerned about it would have stayed on. If it does happen again though, I would check your spark plug wires and make sure they are tight, and then if you are in to doing stuff yourself I would pull the plugs and see how they look, you might need to replace one or more. But I wouldn't put too much thought into it, it really is nothing to lose sleep over.

I have the stock exhaust. Others have said that with stock exhaust it sounds almost like the stock cat. Not the case for me (Assuming there are no leaks).

Good to know that a resonator is not going to help much. I won't even try that now.

Most of them were cheap thin pcs. of metal. That could be why your getting the vibration from.

Have you ever seen the HKS exhaust before? It is much higher quality than the Racing Beat. Have you ever heard the HKS before? It is alot louder than the Racing Beat. It is fully polished stainless up to the cat, it has the thick rolled edges just like the Racing Beat, but, it doesn't bronze over time. Maybe you should check the pictures in my profile to see for yourself.

rx8honey: i got it installed at a local midas, $55 and i asked if i could have a hanger put on as well. they left the stock hanger on the stock cat and made a new hanger out of two metal peices welded to together and to the exhaust. it didnt look like much work at all...and i have no rattles at all as of now.

still sounds amazing after two days and a canyon run today. seems to be more responsive...but who knows maybe its just the sound hehe. i love the growl that it has now. even starting my car i can hear a faint growl...i like.

only odd thing was that i had a cel come on (non flashing, just stayed lit) sometime while i was just driving around normally. so i drove around with a cel on for a bit, car felt completely normal, then i stopped at a gas station and turned the car off. when i turned the car back on, the cel was gone...and it hasnt came back since, not even after the canyon run. weird.

I have emailed Mary thrice in 2 weeks and still have not got a reply. Wonder what becomes of my cat? Can anyone help? I kinda of need it urgently now after having waited for nearly a month
