RX-8 on CBS Morning Show
RX-8 on CBS Morning Show
The 8 was one of the cars shown in a segment on "Sports cars made affordable" on CBS Early show this morning. My wife told me about it.
I'll post a link to the video if they make it available on their site.
They gave the 8 quick but positive press.

You'll never see a 350 that any of us would like to own for $26,000. I looked at 3 cars before I purchased the 8. 350, STi and the 8. The only 350 I was interested in buying was $34K+/- and the STi is cheap feeling for the price.
I found it somewhat sad or amusing not sure which right now that the guy doing the segment had to recheck his paper to verify that the Z was a 350Z.... other than that it was a decent fluff segment.
It was quite obvious that neither of those guys know anything about cars. Pontiac Solstice doing 0-60 in 6 second? Yeah, on the moon!
All I heard was adjectives: "hot", "smoking", "cool". They didn't even talk about the rotary engine for the RX-8.
AND WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVEN CONSIDER A V6 MUSTANG A SPORTS CAR!??!?! even the V8 mustang is more of a muscle car than a sports car. It's got live rear axle for damn's sake!
And the Toyota Solara? (No comment)
The only two cars worth the sports car badge were the RX-8 and the 350z.

1. The mass of the vehicle hasn't changed so the energy (and thus power) needed to get it to 60MPH would be the same as it is on earth.
2. Traction would be a bitch with only 1/10 the gravity to work with.
3. There is no oxygen on the moon. You better have that bottle of NOS ready.
So I would say the only way the Solstice could do 0-60 in 6 seconds would be if it feel off a cliff ... a cliff on earth that is.
-Mr. Wigggles
Ps. Oh yeah, and 4. the driver's head would explode. With no operator the car wouldn't go very fast.

God I knew someone would do this. What I mean is that it was a fantasy to believe the Solstice is that fast. I'll change my remark: "Yeah, in car heaven maybe!".
Sure people can fit in the back of an 8. BUT not really if the person in the front is over 6' like both of these guys. I think that's what he meant.
Take me for example. I am 6'5". Trust me... NO ONE not even the smallest child is fitting their legs in the 3 5/8" that is left between the back of my seat and the front of the rear seat.
However I did fit my brother (6'2") in the passenger seat and my uncle (6'0") behind him, BARELY!
My wife however tall for a woman (5'9") can sit comfortably in the front with someone 6' in the back.

Thanks, for the video I never saw this and yes while these guys don't know jack it was still fun to see the 8 in yet another TV/MAG/etc segment.
Yeah, the 8 has good space in the back but with a big person up front the back starts lacking.
But, the only 2+2 I know of with better space is the GTO.
