I love my RX-8. I most enjoy the ride, as it is nimble and strong. There is something about the combination of suspension, steering, gearbox and engine that creates a feeling that I am in total control of this machine. It’s as if I have the body of an athlete while I’m driving on the road.
I don’t race. I don’t care about ¼ mile times or top speed on a track. I drive in stop-and-go traffic with occasional trips on the inter-state. For zipping between other cars and trucks, navigating the twisties, or cruising on the highway, this car has exceeded my expectations. For the driving I do most, this is the best car.
I find the eccentricities of this car enriching. It’s not like a traditional car. It’s got cool little quirks that give it a personality. Every car has troubles, to some degree. So far, I’ve experienced none with my 8.
I admire the lines of the car. Elegant, powerful and sloping. Different from the mass-produced McCars that are everywhere. Some thought, creativity and art were considered by the designer. It may not be perfect, but the car strikes me as a work of art.
There is nothing else like the sound of those rotaries spinning up to power. With the radio off, the moonroof open ripping though those six gears, I swear I hear it singing, with a voice of its own.
Based on my experience so far, I have no regrets and I’m enjoying this great car.
