Does it count as a powerslide if its wet?

Anyways it looks like there is a new set of rims (just a quick still of them right at the beginning). I like them a lot more than what has been seen so far just a classic spindley 5-spoke which looks pretty light:D

Damn, streaming video sucks! I'm on a 28.8 modem, so I get 3 seconds per frame...

Anyone find a way to *download* the video?

Bryan, you should change the prefs so that it doesn't stream, and will buffer the entire video before playing...

i'm on a Mac, and so know absolutely nothign about d/l'ing Media Player stuff (i got Media Player for Mac just to watch this video!! i've not used it before on an Apple before this...)

AND I"M SO DISAPPOINTED!!! the Zoom Zoom kid shoulda been screaming!! damn, that car looks hot... see the friggin' slalom??? and they're BABYING it!! (hence the "power slide" in the wet... ;))

For those of you who can't stream it, find a program called "asfrecorder".

The URL you want to record is:
"mms://wmt-od.stream.ne.jp/mazda/wmt/020927/01_300k.asf

when i try to get it with asfrecoder it stops at 98%

I noticed that too, they looked good! I tried to do a screen capture of the wheels to show those who couldn't download the movie, but when I pasted it to a paint program, all I got was a blank screen.

Thanks Blue, That plays soo much better now before it was very pixely when I played the streaming vid and it is much larger too. Great Job!! It's really nice to have someone that really knows what they are doing on boards like this. Since your such a pro do you think you could pull a still photo of the rims?

After watching the clip for the hundreth time I noticed the cooling ducts at the front appear to be larger then looked at some older pics and you can see that there is a difference the older ones have an additional insert or something because you can see a line and it appears in many pics so its not just the angle or anything like that.

I believe so, but I'm at work at the moment... I should have it sorted in about 8 hours.

Yeah, it looks like they've removed this insert (I didn't understand why it was there in the first place):

The lip spoiler and side skirts are tasteful, though I don't dig the spoiler or the monstrous wheels :)

18s are fine by me, I don't even want chrome.

You actually have more than one person here who knows how to do that sort of thing. Here's a zoomed picture of the rims:

Any way to increase the contrast and/or brightness to make it easier to see the spoke detail?

Thanks guys!

I think that is my favourite rim yet. Its curvy and lightweight, like the RX-8 itself. Sinuous. Fits into the design better. The other rims looked a bit heavy and were too "slab-ish".

Hey yeah, you're right! Mazda6 wheel up close:

http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=10416

On the 6, the tire size is P215/50R17. Wouldn't bother me a bit if we got those rims/tires. Cheaper to replace the rubber than the 225/45R18, and total height difference is only 0.51". You are only giving up 10 mm of contact patch, which won't be a huge difference in the real world.
I hold out hope that 17's will at least be an option. Even the Mata came with a choice of 14, 15 and 16" wheels (until recently, now the 16" wheels are standard for 2003.)

Edit - Should mention the wheel in the still pictures posted above looks like an 18" rim though, not 17".

Indeed... but since IT is a competitive sport, and I LOVE to sing the praises of Linux and open source software... especially since SO many people think Microsoft is the be all and end all of quality software... Here's my version,...

I'm only using windows because there are no good games on the Mac and Linux.

Hitman 2 takes up much of my recent time... If I really wanted another OS, I'd vote for BeOS to be a strong OS, followed by the Mac OSX, then finally Windows. Linux still doesn't do it for me :)

What platform/os are you using?

Small and Limp 98 SE

Damn windows:mad:

.asx file, maybe I should have it converted to avi?

Grimace

The stupid Windows Media player won't recognize it as a format it can play if you simply double-click on it. Right click, go "open with" and select the MS Media player, and it will go. At least, that's what I had to do with Win XP.

Well, it's a Microsoft format... ASF... I will be playable by the latest "Media Player" and I assume that is available for 98. If not I don't know what to recommend! It's SO long since I've used Windows... infact the last version I used was the original 95.... Linux does me for EVERYTHING, and I use Solaris at work!

You gotta give them credit for trying!

I love quake3, so luckily it's available on Linux!

Yeah, its strange. When I clicked on your file to download it from your FTP, it opened up in Media player no problem. I watched the video and let it play through, then clicked "save" and put it on my hard drive.
Then I go to play the video today, and Windows said it didn't recognize the file format, and to pick a program to open the file. Chose Media player (duh) and away it went! Gotta love microsoft. :D

ROFLOL... great... I was wondering if it would be possible under Windows to do that... I'm just up for the sport! Cheers, that made me smile! You got a newer version than me too!

Heh, well I'm finishing my PhD in computer science, specifically in operating systems and networking, this semester. Think I'm a windows fan?

LOL... I always assumed that Windows was bad, until I actually studied software engineering... Now I know it is... If it was a car it would be a constructed from the second hand parts bins of half the worlds car manufacturers, but originally based on a Model T ford... ... and over the years modified to carry heavy loads or go fast... but always with brute force, and no finesse! One day I really believe that patch on patch, it will become unmaintainable....

For that, I don't hate microsoft... they are there to make money and sell software and they do it very well... These days it's just their business practices that get me mad! Win32 is supposed to be a documented standard... like hell, you could impliment everything they've ever published and not get a working implimentation... as the Wine project is finding out!

Of course, those are my personal opinions, and I am entitled to them.

Actually, OS X is a *very* nice OS, and it can be as versatile as Linux, though it hasn't had the hours behind it yet. My next computer is going to be a powerbook G4 laptop running OS X, for the record. :)
