I can understand if the Hp was downed because of emissions and if its a simple ecu thing I for one can wait for the aftermarket to come out with some new maps.

Mazda has not given a reason why the hp has been overstated or decreased.

I think we deserve this information since we did buy their car. I hope this is not seen as a duplicate post because I am wondering how many want and i believe deserve an explaniation.

I know damage control is key but we really need the info from mazda. Did the miata ever get an explaniation why their hp was overstated? I think we deserve one. I love the car and want to keep it i just need an answer to this issue. Was it an ecu issue?emissions?

It might be entertaining to know, but what we "want" doesn't really matter.

I suspect it was emissions, but in reality we'll likely never know for sure...

I would like to see the dyno graphs that they used to come up with the 238hp number. Eventually, someone from engineering will anonymously say what really happened.

i put this in another thread, but i dont think emissions explains it completely, as there is still a difference in high rpm torque dropoff in the public dynos compared to mazda's released dyno graph

I suspect the media will be getting in to the "why" of this, maybe by the October issues of R&T, C&D, etc. Certainly it won't go by the board without some explantion.

I think that a reason will be given, but it is unlikely to be the truth. The truth will either be that they lied or made a simple mistake.

Revealing simple mistakes often makes you sound stupid or inept.

I would like to know why only if it is on the path to fixing it. I would rather the HP back, not $500.

I personally agree. There is something going on from 6200rpm and on.. and it doesn't seem to be only emission related.

For those that are hoping to remap the ECU, would that not make it unpassable during an emission test? How often do you have to do that to renew your ownership?

Personally I don't think Mazda has had the time to do a VERY thorough investigation on this issue. In due time I suspect they will get to the root of the problem and hopefully restore the Renesis to the originally claimed hp numbers. By spring of next year would be perfect. :P

Btw, like others said, 239hp is still VERY optimistic.. :(

Ya I hope i find out soon! I love this car but if i am gonna have really bad gas mileage and my friend in his modded GSR can kick my arse and drive to vegas on one tank then ill prolly cry.

On my trip to vegas with my 8 it took 50 dollars on gas alone from west covina to vegas. (it was fun tho hehe). If i can get the hp back by ecu and my top end magically appears then im gonna keep the 8 for sure.

If not i really dont know at that point.

I wish there was a way to get mazda talking on whats happening and what happened. If we can correct it and if it will still pass smog if in fact it was an emissions thing once we remap it.

I think im gonna drop em an e-mail.

Mazda should provide a reason for somehow 'mistaken' the power rating on this car. If they state the car now only has 238hp, let's see some dyno and data proving the new number is valid. If they lied the first time, what's to say their new rating is accurate. Afterall, this is the second time the power rating was changed for one reason or another. 250-->247-->238 I think it's fair to say Mazda's credibility at this point is somewhat questionable without some hard facts.

By signing the paper for the free maintenance, don't you forgo any legal rights to persue future power deficiency in the car? What if 2 months later we find out from a engine dyno the car only makes 225hp instead of 238? There will not be any further compensation other than what's stated in the agreement already. Make sure you read the agreement paper carefully before signing it to protect your rights.

It does only make like 228 - 238 hp to the wheels it seems I just e-mailed mazda lets see what kind of response i get. Simply stated i didnt complain but i just want to know what were the issues that brought the power down from its original spec.

I dont doubt that the aftermarket community will make a piggyback unit later to correct any ecu problems especially with the aftermarket this will get from Japan. I do wonder about our hp above the 7k range. as long as i get a honest answer ill be happy and ill keep the car for sure and ill back mazda 100 percent.

On a side note

You know I was just thinking however............When i had my RSX Type S second gear would grind all day long for tons of users.
People raised hell and e-mailed Acura. You know what nothing happend....... It was cut and dry acura did nothing for our arses they just gave excuses and said nothing was wrong with the synchros BS in my book.

Mazda on the other hand has at least offered us something. Which although may not be much but at least they are doing something. I cant be totally pissed at them. Although i can be upset at the ordeal. We have an awsome car i just wish there wasnt so much damn crap to deal with.

What email address are you using, zerohour?

Yes, I'd definitely like to know the answer to "what happened?" I plan to call Mazda Customer Service Monday morning and see what the official company line is. I'm sure I'm not the only one -- should be a busy morning for them.

I just went to the mazdausa website and theres a contact us link. Im trying this first. I know that they probably have customer service reps answering these e-mails, but i am very curious as to what type of response im gonna get. I might try to find a more specific address today as well.
