Not really a nice time to ask as its still summer but somewhere in Colorado/NorCal has been hit with snow?...

I'd like to know how good the RX8 is with snow, Keep in mind I currently drive a Lexus IS300 (210hp RWD) and I drove a whole winter with it on summer tires absolutely fine here in Chicago.

I'm thinkign with the 50/50 weight distribution its gonna be a toughy if I do decide to trade in my Lex for an RX8.


Any thought/suggestions?.

btw if i do get a Rex I'm going for the automatic as I will drive about 45 miles everyday to school. With horrible Chicago traffic.

I'm not really worried about the traction aspect, as I intend to invest in good winter tires and wheels, and I think the car's winter handling will benefit from the 50/50 weight distribution.

However, I'm having second thoughts about driving mine in the winter, because of the low ground clearance, and possible lack of the car having been designed to be corrosion resistant. I don't recall seeing anything about galvanizing or coatings; I noticed some small brackets and under-frame bits on my car already have a splash of surface rust on them here and there.

I decided against additional rustproofing, 'cause it seems a car will start to rust out in an area the coating is inadeqate in anyway.

And damn, those oil coolers look vulnerable to rock spewing trucks and ice chunks!

If you check the Canada forum in the regional forums, they have a good thread going about snow tires. I'm keeping an eye on it too.
