View Full Version : Wheelspin in 2nd!!!
Rinkadink 07-04-2006, 07:10 PM Anyone ever get wheelspin in second when driving agressively? It's happened to me twice and it's probably because I'm a newb. But today I took off at a stoplight smoothly than accelerated quickly to 8000rpm in 1st gear, then quickly switch to second, let off the clutch while giving gas and I heard a chirrp of wheelspin. My tires are practically new, they have alot of tread and very little wear.
Dunno, kinda shocked me, I thought only torque monster engines can get a chirp of wheelspin in 2nd. Maybe I did something wrong.
t-run/8 07-04-2006, 07:13 PM I used to do that a lot too. Just dont let the clutch out so fast. Or, get better at applying gas/clutching.
Rinkadink 07-04-2006, 07:15 PM Oh ok, so it is my fault. I was kinda boasting to my cousin (who owns a G35) that I get wheelspin in 2nd. He was like "Wow".
Paul_in_DC 07-04-2006, 07:21 PM Just make sure you promise your clutch you won't do it again. :)
vapourit 07-04-2006, 08:29 PM This is a ridiculous post. You can chirp the tires in a civic. Pretty much any manual except a k car manual convertible and the smart car, they only have 40 pound feet of torque!
supergoat 07-04-2006, 08:43 PM This car will step the back end out a bit on a 1-2 shift if the traction control is off.
JCTarheel82 07-04-2006, 09:22 PM Shift fast enough and you can chirp em going from 2nd to 3rd.
G Rover 07-04-2006, 09:42 PM I've actually chirped from 3rd to 4th, but that was on a power shift, and my tires were somewhat worn.
I've chirped going from 4th to 5th because I'm really freaking cool.
dtorre 07-04-2006, 09:57 PM I chirped going from 6th to 7th using my nepton airlock intake
SayNoToPistons 07-04-2006, 10:15 PM I've chirped going from 4th to 5th because I'm really freaking cool.
i chirp my tires when i brake hard.

Why?
3rd gear is pretty easy to chirp too....physics 101.

If your tires are chirping your clutch really isn't getting abused in any way :Freak_ani
Raptor2k 07-05-2006, 12:12 AM shifting at redline != abuse, lol
nicce12 07-05-2006, 03:21 AM Ha, I chirped going from 6th to 3rd!
Paul_in_DC 07-05-2006, 08:34 AM If your tires are chirping your clutch really isn't getting abused in any way Uh, what do you think makes your tires change speed suddenly enough to make them chirp?
Paul_in_DC 07-05-2006, 08:34 AM Ha, I chirped going from 6th to 3rd!
:confused:LOL! :D:

going into neutral, then back into a high-power gear in less than half a second?
DailyDriver2k5 07-05-2006, 12:24 PM I chirp 3rd rather easy with the traction control off. The Rx-8 is the first car i owned stock that could chirp 3rd gear. My 99 Gt Stang couldn't even chirp 3rd gear in stock form. :icon_tdow
I LOVE this car!
dmc27 07-05-2006, 12:36 PM Any gear can "chirp"; it's a matter of throttle & clutch. Will it hurt the clutch? A little. But it will eventually need work anyway, so do it if it makes you feel special. Just don't bitch about crappy parts when you need the work done much sooner that most.
DOMINION 07-05-2006, 12:39 PM shifting at redline != abuse, lol
Yeah why not Mazda did

Same here...I chirped 2, 3, and 4 this weekend going full throttle. 2002 Mustang GT couldn't do that.
Joe_914 07-05-2006, 02:38 PM Just think of your self as a future DAPO.
Dumb Ass Previous Owner.
G Rover 07-05-2006, 04:09 PM Ha ha. I had a feeling I was gonna get responses like that. I wasnt trying to sound cool. Just giving some input.
Aseras 07-05-2006, 04:33 PM I can chirp 4th. 2nd is lay rubber till the DSC/TCS kicks in, 3rd will scoot a bit sideways and grab..I almost never do it though. RX8 clutch does not like flat shifting. I know one day that I do it it will break and I will cry...
that said, I almost never peel out or chirp in this car. I do find that if I am in any kind of sand or water that first and second can get squirrely.. with casual driving. I've also had trouble with the backend trying to kick out under hard acceleration on the interstate in the rain. The stock bridgestones SUCK.
I'm putting better meat on the car and then I should have no more traction problems. You can make any car peel out chirp or whatever in any gear if you dump the clutch at enough RPM's and have crappy tires on it.
Paul_in_DC 07-05-2006, 05:11 PM going into neutral, then back into a high-power gear in less than half a second?Using... the clutch.
Low Fly'n 8 07-05-2006, 07:58 PM It may have just been a bird flying by chirping at the same time you shifted.
brattesani 07-05-2006, 08:22 PM i chirp my tires when i engage my flux capacator...
Raptor2k 07-05-2006, 08:48 PM meh, chirp chirp
Aseras 07-07-2006, 09:49 AM i chirp my tires when i engage my flux capacator...
what's weird is that i find my natural highway cruise speed when i'm not paying attention to my speed and just doing what feels natural always ends up right at 88 mph.. seriously.
8is>enuff 07-07-2006, 10:02 AM I chirped the crap outta my 8 on the 5-6 shift.
Well actually, I accidentally shifted into reverse - but I spun them bitches hardcore. :suspect:
missinmahseven 07-07-2006, 11:44 AM I did this in the wet yesterday, coming out of a toll gate.. smoothly engaged 2nd, and instead of gently gassing her, I whacked the throttle open..*wzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!*
Funny, TC / DSC never came on... but the car just kept going where it was supposed to be going, no drama. Lifted a little and they hooked right back up.
Could it be that with 7/32nds remaining I allready need new rubbah?! Or maybe the yoki es100's just ain't that great on wet..
In the dry, the only chirping I *want* to hear is going around corners.. that's the only chirping I like. :evil_laug
I'm going to buy the hardest, highest-mileage touring tires I can find so I can chirp all 6 gears.
:)
ucfracerx8 07-10-2006, 04:26 PM I have also done the same with 1-2 and 2-3. 3-4 once, but we won't talk about that. I have even gotten the traction control light to flash on the 2-3, and it was not like I was trying, just shifting normally. The car can be shifted so well and so quickly that it just happens.
Side Note: I routinely get the rear tires loose off the line in 1st gear. Gotta love that low first gear and that paltry 159 lb-ft of torque working to get things moving in a hurry. I will also add that this is not with any type of clutch dump, just even smooth engagement and a very heavy right foot.
