View Full Version : What will you be doing with YOUR $500?
loco4rx8 08-22-2003, 09:13 PM Just curious what people have in mind. The mind races, really. I'm not sure whether to use it to make payments on the car or to splurge.
Let's get creative. What are your ideas?
tribal azn2 08-22-2003, 09:17 PM can we cash the debit card?
Puppy1 08-22-2003, 09:27 PM How come there was no option saying: "Have Mazda buy it back?"
Prowla 08-22-2003, 09:28 PM Puppy, so you're saying... with $500, you'll pay Mazda to buy it back?

Because obviously this question is directed at those who take the maintenance/$500.
zoom44 08-22-2003, 09:38 PM strakes and rotary thingamabobers front and back. and maybe those rotary wheel centers. unless i can make a payment with the debit card but i doubt it.

Gord96BRG 08-22-2003, 10:33 PM None of the above - Mazda doesn't give you $500 cash (nor check), they give you a voucher good for Mazda accessories. You have to spend it at a Mazda dealer. For reference, that's EXACTLY what the case was with the $500 back for the Miata HP fiasco. Look it up if you don't believe me, but you should - nobody is getting $500 to blow on non-Mazda stuff, car payments, or anything but Mazda accessories.

Gordon
Skyline Maniac 08-22-2003, 10:37 PM I know this sounds crude and all but.......
Why not drive the hell out of the car for the next month and then return the car to the dealership for a full refund. It'd be like a free rental car for a couple of month. Maybe I should go pick up a loaded RX-8 at the dealership tomorrow and 'borrow it' for awhile. :D Think of it as an extended test drive. Then if you really love the car, then keep it in all its glory. On a more serious note, besides the Mazda USA compensation, is there anyway for current owners to demand some sort of discount from the dealership they purchase the car from? I am sure most dealerships would rather refund $1-2000 from MSRP rather than having a lot full of used RX-8's and then having to explain to future customers why people have returned them. It's worth a shot~

Bummer. My bad. Well, I guess I'll be getting some Mazda accessories then.

Because the poll SAYS What will you be doing with YOUR $500?.
Is that so hard to understand?
rodmeister 08-23-2003, 06:18 AM I didn't buy the navigation system because of the rip-off price, but if I can apply $500 toward the $2,000 nav system, $1500 sounds better.
If I can use the $500 toward Mazdaspeed parts, I'll apply it toward a turbocharger.
Otherwise I'll get a bunch of smaller items: the cargo net, shop manual, key chain fob, cargo tray, exhaust finisher, touch up paint, etc.
If it's a debit card (which seems what Mazda Canada gave out fort he miata) then I'll use it to put in my bank account (Well kind of) I need to buy winter tires, so it will help with that.
If it's ONLY Accessories, well that BITES. But I'll either get the extra year extended warranty, or I'll get side strakes and floor mats.
RX8Lover 08-23-2003, 08:46 AM The debit card IS NOT for Mazda use only. I had a half-hour conversation with my dealer regarding this matter and insists it is a Mastercard debit card that they also use for other incentives for other cars. It is in no way restricted to Mazda accessorries only. You are free to do with it as you please ANYWHERE.
Also, the maintenance deal does not include wear and tear items, such as tires and brake pads. But everything else, from oil changes to tuneups (which would never be included, regardless if you finance or lease) WILL be included.
People, please do your homework before speculating or making things up.
jonalan 08-23-2003, 11:12 AM If it's true debit card, then my answer is -- GAS.
If it's a voucher for Mazda only parts, then we're screwed because we know the outrageous markup on parts from the dealer.
The "free" scheduled maintenance is also not as good as it sounds. Most people on this forum are going to be changing their own oil AND at shorter intervals than what is documented in the Scheduled Maintenance section of the owner's manual. In this case, you will only get a $500 debit card (or voucher).
Those of us that want to take part in this "free service", and Mazda goes with Schedule 1 (every 5,000 miles), that means they will give us 10 free oil changes under the 50,000 mile warranty. If you change your oil every 2,000 miles, then your free service will end at 20,000 miles. Most people will hit this mark in less than 2 years.

Well, I don't do my own maintenance, so I will be getting free service. And I plan to follow Schedule 1 and have the oil changed every 5000 miles. I figure Mazda knows best as far as their recommendations for oil changes. Then again.... hmmmmm. :p Anyway, I put too many miles on a car to get the oil changed every 2000 or 3000 miles. I'd have it at the dealer every month.

JeRKy 8 Owner 09-03-2003, 05:37 PM Noone ever answered the question someone posted here about if the debit card can be cashed. Does anyone know this answer?
ibfubar2000 09-03-2003, 06:30 PM no it can not be turned into cash, you can use it anywhere that accepts credit cards though, be it resturaunt, car dealership, gas station, supermarket, bestbuy, walmart. anyplace that takes mastercard.
though i will buy anybodies card from them for $250 cash so yes it can be turned into cash :) just pm me
donald121 09-03-2003, 06:34 PM I will use it for factory kits. $500 only enough for rear and sides tho.
mikeb 09-03-2003, 07:02 PM why would anyone sell it for 250
ibfubar2000 09-03-2003, 07:21 PM uh because people do stupid things. im just trying to offer them cash like they want. hey if anybody would rather have cash for thier card just let me know. i will gladly give anybody $250.00 CASH in exchange for their debit card.

Not so. It's a $500 debit card that you can spend any way you want...at least in the US. Now my wife want the rear spolier and it will eat it up. would've been cheaper port installed.
Toadman 09-03-2003, 11:42 PM You could always get a cat-back exhaust and recover the HP loss.

why does the letter say "SAME AS CASH" if we cant cash it?
and who the hell's gonna trade $500 for $250
LesPaul 09-04-2003, 07:14 AM 1. Amp and bass speaker to fatten up the bottom end of the Bose.
2. Gas, until it runs out.
The maintenance schedules in the manual include more than oil filter and change. Several items are check and replace.
I'm sure he was joking about the $250 for the $500 debit card. I'm not sure why anyone would want to "cash" in a debit card which is good as cash at most places these days. If you want to cash in your $500 debit card, I'll bid $275.
o_town_racer 09-04-2003, 08:15 AM I called the Mazda RX-8 line yesterday and got the story. You have the choice of a buy-back or free maintenance for the warranty period (4yrs/50K miles) plus a $500 debit card with a MasterCard logo. You can spend it anywhere MasterCard is accepted. You too can call if you don't believe (800-662-6779). Have your VIN ready so you can make sure they have you on the list for a letter.
desmo996 09-04-2003, 08:56 AM $500 towards a new laptop or PC. Maybe I'll just spend it in my oncoming trip to Indianapolis F1 trip. Either way, that's an extra 500 bucks I wasn't counting on. Does anybody else feel like a movie star in this car or am I just that good looking?
f1michel 09-04-2003, 11:06 AM Here in Canada it is written that we get a cheque of 500$ !! Although it's Can, funds i'll take it and cash it VERY quickly ! :-)

somepeople just like the feel of cash in their hands. plus u can do alot more with cash. its not like i can go to the casino and buy chips with a debit card. anyways, a debit card works just like a checking card so i dont see any reason why we shouldnt be able to cash it.
btw i got an oil change yesterday and they still charged me. when does this "free" maintence begin?
f1michel 09-04-2003, 01:25 PM Did you ask them not to charge you? Orat least mention that you have chosen the free stuff?
mikeb 09-04-2003, 04:11 PM how much was the oil change? I do in on saturday for mine

was 20$. and i got them to put in the peg for the floormat
graphicguy 09-06-2003, 11:01 PM I use about $20/week in gas for the RX8. So, I'll use the Mastercrad for about 6 months in gas plus I've got 4 years of free maintenance. Sounds like a good deal to me.
OmegaBob 09-06-2003, 11:35 PM Once I get my card, I will be heading straight for Best Buy to purchase all the DVD sets that I've been putting off b/c of the car:
1 - B5, seasons 2 & 3
2 - BTVS, seasons 4 & 5
3 - Angel, seasons 1 & 2
4 - "24" season 2
If there's anything left, I'll use that for gas.
Then again, I was planning on purchasing some cheapo rims and snow tires for Winter..... or maybe an Xbox..... the possibilities are endless! :D
RotorGeek 09-07-2003, 12:15 AM I plan on getting am alarm with remote start and the clear bra installed
