View Full Version : Music Suggestions
P00Man 08-21-2003, 06:45 PM since tunes are so important when your cruising in your 8, i thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where people can recomend songs/albums to buy/dl off the web
for starters
mythos 'n dj cosmo - unchained melody
webster hall - phantom of the opera (techno remix)
even if you dont like techno (which both of these are), you should try to get these songs, they are simply outstanding, probably wont be able to find them for purchase, though

rodmeister 08-21-2003, 08:04 PM 1, For blasting down the highway: anything by Bob Seger.
2. Starting a road trip: "Take it Easy" by the Eagles or Jackson Browne. The theme from the "Magnificent Seven" is another great trip starter.
3. Dark rainy nights: I can play "A Rainy Night in Georgia" again and again.
4. Driving slowly down a dark, fogbound country road: The eerie "Exit" album by Tangerine Dream.
5. Driving down a dark, clear country road: "Darkside of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. Also the Moody Blues' "To Our Children's Children" and "Nights in White Satin" albums.
6. Driving down a quiet highway at night: The slow cuts from "The Bladerunner" soundtrack, or other slow jazz especially with low breathy saxaphones.
7. Stuck-in-traffic, anti-stess music. Anything by Enya or Art Garfunkel. Warning: please test this at home first, you may fall asleep. Bach also works. Sixties music makes me happy and cheerful in a traffic jam.
8. Driving to and around Malibu and Pacific Coast Highway: Anything by the Beach Boys.
9. Miscellaneous: Eagles especially "James Dean" and "Ole '55", Neil Young with Crazy Horse - you know the long songs like "Down by the River." Bruce Hornsby.

TybeeRX-8 08-21-2003, 08:49 PM I'm with rodmeister...best selections, but I'd go with the whole sound track from Blade Runner...fits the character of the "8", IMHO.
All time favorite road album though is the Harley Davidson Road Music Album...starts with Seger on CD 1 and with Golden Earring, Radar Love on CD2.
For just 'ol feel good stuff to releive a little stress, The Best of Van Morrison does it for me.:D
Zaphod 08-21-2003, 09:03 PM In this car? Ministry. :D
Queens of the Stone Age would be good driving music. So would Judas Priest.
But the best all-time single driving song is: L.A. Woman. No contest, IMHO.

Their song "Gasoline" is very appropriate for the RX-8. The chorus goes:
"Burn that gasoline!!"
:D

i'm a very open minded person when it comes to music... it just has to be fast, fun, and artistic (no, the modern pop musician is rarely found to be an artist). instrumentals add ambience and no distraction whilst driving.
other than that, "i'll take what she's having".

EDIT: OOH...i just downloaded that Unchained Melody by Mythos and whoever that you recommended and well...i know we all have different tastes in music but that was just horrible...they completely ruined my memory of that song by adding that silly reverb and teeny-bopper beats...sorry, but i had to voice my disdain for that song...if you like upbeat "techno" like that, listen to Alice DJ or better yet download some Fragma songs...much better without the teeny bopper beats
RX8-TX 08-22-2003, 01:36 PM You all should try something by DREAM THEATER (yeah!), little band from Long Island, NY.
If you are into progressive: These are the musicians. Some of my favorite albums are:
** Images & Words (Under a Glass Moon, Pull Me Under, Another Day...)
** Metroplois 2: Scenes from a Memory (Home, Finally Free, One Last Time..)
** Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (Misunderstood, The Glass Prison..)
** Awake (6:00, Caught in a Web, Lie..)
** A Change of Seasons (A Change of Seasons..)
mikeb 08-22-2003, 01:45 PM one of the worst things about my last car being stolen was they took my cds and I had over 100. Everyone here listens to such different music.

yea maybe that's it...it's an old classic Righteous Brothers song, made famous by the movie Ghost...it's just not one of those songs that are meant to have a techno beat...a lot of new wave songs, on the other hand sound great as newly reformed techno songs...

I'm with you on those Haze, and don't forget The Clash!
Pooman, I listened to those songs and my god they are bad... I like techno and various types of electronic music quite a bit, but that bad suburban bowling alley dance club garbage.
Please don't take that as a personal insult, I'm sure you would feel the same about some of the music I listen to, but I was just shocked when I started listening to them...
Red Devil 08-25-2003, 01:19 PM The Clash, Sex Pistols, and Social Distortion are all quality.
Quick_lude 08-25-2003, 01:31 PM So much music, so little time.. :) I listen to almost anything across most generas.. I usually burn a mix of mp3's.. a little of alt rock, rap, dance, trance, etc.. Whatever I feel.
Favourites are
Most of Crystal Method
New Order - Confusion
U2 - Bad/Bullet the Blue Sky
Most of Tool especially Prison Sex
Radiohead - Bends/Paranoid Android
Red Devil 08-25-2003, 01:35 PM Didn't New Order have that song Crystal a few years back? I heard it a lot when I was in Europe, but I don't think it ever caught on State side. Either way, I thought it was a great song.
