View Full Version : Why isnt white a color?
Tigster 08-21-2003, 02:24 PM Call me crazy but I like the look of a white car with red interior. We currrently have a Miata and are going to order an 8 as soon as we close on our new house (in 3 weeks :D ).
I have seen some photos of white ones but maybe they are photo shoped?
Just wondering.
This has been discussed before, in Japan there is a white, you aren't the only that think this car looks awesome in white. I think it looks wicked.
Apparently not many white miata's were sold? I don't know. Anyway, do a search it has for sure been talked about a few times.
dcfc3s 08-21-2003, 03:40 PM I have a gut feeling that we'll be seeing white as an option in upcoming production years. The '93 RX-7 didn't have white, but '94-95 did.
I think Mazda wanted colors that showed off the lines of the car well first - white doesn't work as well.

Lensman 08-21-2003, 03:42 PM I presume that whilst some people really like white the majority don't and it's not worth Mazda's money to set up the spray shop for a very limited run yet.
Tigster 08-21-2003, 03:46 PM I just think it looks nice, espically next to my fiance's black 2002 miata.

loco4rx8 08-21-2003, 03:53 PM It's always been my opinion that white makes most cars look cheap. Now, some cars can pull it off, and the 8 is probably one of those, but generally I don't like white as a car color. I DO think Mazda will make it available eventually.
rotarynews.com 08-21-2003, 04:00 PM The white from Japan was cheap, no depth.
However, do expect to see a perl white on future RX-8's, as it was reserved for a special edition of the car by US marketeers.
DisneyDestroyer 08-21-2003, 04:24 PM Agreed, I would have loved white.
Rumor has it that White will be a special MazdaSpeed-only color.
P00Man 08-21-2003, 05:15 PM the car in that pic is absolutely sick
i love white (a good white, mind you) on cars, hopefully well get like a pearlescent egg shell or something similar soon, i personally would love a white miata, for some reason ive always like the miata...

Beacuse it's a lack of color/pigment and the light reflects completely off it thus looking white? :D :D j/k
Icemastr 08-22-2003, 01:49 AM How many white 3rd gen RX-7's do you see? Yeah there about as rare as CYM's, guess we will have to wait till next year's color scheme comes out.
Same deal happens here in Oz. The 2003 RX-8 does not have white on the option list. Perhaps the 2004 update may get it next year.
Mazda did the same with the FD RX-7. When released onto the world stage in 1992, white wasn't listed in most export countries. Down under the series-6 (92-95) didn't get the white option.
However for the series-7 (96-98) version in Oz, we did finally get white as an option.
You hardly ever see a white MX-5 (Miata) on the roads here . Having said that, my good friend drives a white NA version....lol
dcfc3s 08-22-2003, 08:27 AM Personally, I've never cared for white on a 3rd gen - the color just doesn't suit the car. Makes it look washed out and less dynamic. White 2nd gens look great, however. Dunno why.
A pearl white would probably be pretty sweet. But, every picture I've seen of a white RX-8 looked great - I think the color does do well on the '8.
But, most cars have colors that they really look good in, and colors that don't suit them.
